then, on the way, my boss called me and told me that my calculations yesterday have errors

fine. finally got my root canal done.
then i tried to rush for the lift but slipped and fell.
luckily i was able to breakfall and just crashed on my right knee instead.

What a ROTTEN and LONG day :(

i truly believe in 祸不单行.
whenever i have a bad start to a day, it usually continues on for the whole day.
which was true today. as usual.


firstly, we have to backtrack to yesterday night where my dad pissed me off royally when i was about to sleep. and i wasn't able to vent my frustration or channel the pent up energy to good use. talking to baby could only relieve some of my frustration but ultimately, fatigue and lethargy won over. that totally ruined the end of my day and i had such a nice dinner with buddy! ARGH. and my premonition forewarned me that sth bad is going to happen today which i promptly ignored, not wanting it to be true even though 9 out of 10 times, it'll come true.


ALAS, i can't escape fate. i woke up late. i was woken up on time by my alarm but due to my fatigue, i dozed off again. until my mum came to wake me up at 710. of course, i jumped out of bed. cuz that's usually the time i leave house!
gosh, imagine my anxiety!
of course in situation like this, call a cab! which i did.
to my pleasant surprise, it was my neighbour who took on my cab call. so i got to know him slightly better on the way to work. and i could have gotten to work on time.
BUT, my good luck was shortlived. -.-
he went to the wrong base.
i wanted to go to NAVAL Base but he thought i was refering to AIR Base. and both bases are quite near to each other. so he got mixed up. and the cab fare chalked up to 29 bucks which is ridiculous even with the surcharge and stuff because i live in BEDOK.
but of course, he didnt charge me that as he went roundabout, got the wrong place plus he's my neighbour. how could he right?


so i was late for work. i was hoping that my boss would be out for breakfast and she wouldn't notice the lack of punctuality on my part.
RIGHTS. as if with my luck -.-
so there she was in her cubicle when i walked past. HAIX.
i tried to greet good morning to act normal but obviously, i failed at it. there was a twinge of embarrassment and guilt in my voice. and she looked at me with those eyes, i knew i was a goner. 
so i quickly went to work as i had a board today at gombak.
i went through everything, spot a mistake, changed it BUT i missed out A word. it wasn't a major thing but it was noted by my boss later on. actually there were 2 mistakes. :(


anw, while we were at gombak, i realized that my heels were falling apart.
and during the board, i made 2 boo boos.
Plus, we had trouble returning the keys because the person who passed the keys to me left before i could ask anything. so i was left clueless. it was such a hassle. luckily, someone helped us. thank goodness. if not, we'll be running ard the building.
IMAGINE my DISMAY.
by the end of the trip, i was alr sucked of energy and spirit.
oh, but i discovered that nicolas is working at gombak. haha. so the trip wasn't without any plus.
So if ever i need to head to gombak for meetings and need lunch kaki, i know who to call :)


i had a glimmer of hope of my luck changing when my boss was deliberating whether to head home from gombak or return to office. since the time was 不三不四 to go back office.
BUT of course, not up to us to decide.
and we went back to office.
in a way, it's easier for me to get home from office. so i'm pretty ok with going back to office.
THEN! while we were heading out of gombak in the cab, we almost got into an accident and the drivers almost quarreled. the traffic light saved us from an impending fierce quarrel.
and when we were nearing the base, the taxi driver was worried that he might not have enough gas or sth. the needle was nearing E.
WHAT LUCK RIGHT.
but luckily, we survived.


i thought that would be the end of it all.
HUR HUR.
i boarded the shuttle bus and knocked my head agst sth. luckily the ledge was soft. so it didn't hurt that much.
i was just shocked and appalled at my luck -.-''''''
i went to the cobbler and fixed my heels. and guess what, when i returned to collect my heels, the person wasn't there. had no idea where he went to.
so i've decided to wait. i waited for 30 mins and he was nowhere to be seen.
and 3 people were waiting for him to appear excluding me!
luckily, nicolas called me and we chatted about work whle waiting. so i was kept companied and wasn't so cheesed off.
in the end, i couldn't take it.
i left and decided to collect it another day, probably tml. if he doesn't want to appear, then forget it la. give him the shoe. LOL. it's an old pair of heels anw.




now, can you believe my luck today?!!!!

1st week of work.

so far ok.
it's relatively near my place..so it's good..
the welfare is fantastic.
free lunch,
can knock off on time and reach home early,
can take 30mins break for breakfast and afternoon tea combined officially,
one day off on your birthday (new initative and awesome!),
huge cubicle,
can listen to music (sometimes i eavesdrop from my boss's radio..hehe),
can wear semi formal, pretty much anything except for jeans and leggings but those are allowed on fridays
free parking if you have car,
sports complex nearby (got swimming pool, gym, running track, tennis court, basketball court and dunno what else)...
and hopefully more that i have yet to discover.
fortunately, my colleagues are all v nice and helpful including my boss.
it's quite a cordial environment i guess?
but then it's only my first week...so that opinion can change. hopefully it stays tt way.

but of course, with the pros comes the cons.
no internet (only intranet),
computer slow like tortoise (worse than my laptop...takes like 20 mins to set up?),
phone from 1990s (super old school. can only transfer and take calls),
cannot bring camera phones (so left with damn basic phones which means cannot take photo of my working environment and whatever),
the pantry is pathetic,
it's a new establishment so a lot of things are not in place and quite messy,
8 am start work (means that i have to wake up at like 615?!!!! that's too early for me haha),
cannot bitch too obviously and openly because we all eat lunch together and are in the same office,
things are quite inefficient and difficult to get data or information that you need because of all the sensitivity issues,
cannot go shopping during lunch because you are stuck in camp and nobody drives..
so far that's it...and i hope the list stays this way..

unsure if it's a good choice for my first job because of what i'm doing right now
but it's only my first week so i'm giving it more time..
am afraid that this job experience would be too niche and specialized towards mindef that it'll be useless in my CV for future commercial jobs..
quite afraid to be stuck...
because a lot of them have been working there for like damn long...
it's amazing..
so that is frightening..
but then again, 船到桥头自然直.
so i shall not get ahead of myself.

and i must catch the correct shuttle bus.
always catch the later one.

i finally understand the importance of sleeping early now. lol!

that means i cant go shopping during lunch. boo hoo.
cuz nothing to shop for and nowhere to shop at...unless you are shopping for boys..lol!
and it's hard to go out of camp for lunch cuz you'll have to have a car and know your way out.
i have to stock up everything i need in office and bring it from home....tissue box, tidbits, drinks, hairclips, mug, waterbottle and what nots..
it'll also be troublesome for me to meet up with frens in town after work..
cuz tt would mean i have to travel.
but of course, fridays are a must to go out.
mons and tues are a no no. cuz will be having start of the week blues. lol!
ah well...

it's exciting albeit feeling a little apprehensive about it.
it's incredible how life turns out.
just yesterday, i was still talking to rhino about the job and wondering when and if the call would come.
and alas! today was D-day.
am not sure where this job would lead me to.. and whether it'll lead me to where i wanna go.
but i guess that's life.
unexpected turns and corners to explore.
hopefully i am making the right choice.
and it's abt time i start work. although start of work would mean sept. lol!
they need to get clearance n all for us.
so cross my fingers and hope for the best that nothing will go wrong between now and the signing of contract! :)

i went to the Da Vinci exhibition at science centre today!


only got to know about through Felicia Chin's blog i think?
hahaha.
but it was TOTALLY worth the trip!
the exhibition was freaking AWESOME.
it was LEGEN- wait for it -DARY!
you'll be very blown away by DaVinci's brilliance.
s-e-r-i-o-u-s-l-y.

he is such a genius and visionary in his era!
he's extremely well versed in science, art, invention and music despite no formal education.
how fabulous is that?!
and he writes reversely. self educated. cool huh. haha.
he believes that science is embedded in art. there can be no art without science.
his ideas and works are simply magnificent!
and how contradicting it is that we always bear the notion that art and science are two completely different areas. just like fire and water.
he can draw every little detail of his inventions and thoughts right down to the last dot so well! i just can't believe it.
it's a pity his works got recognized only some 400 years later after his death.

i love the Vitruvian Man the most.
the measurements and formulas that is embedded in that drawing..simply mind blowing.
it depicts the ideal measurement of a human. and the human figure fits a square and circle perfectly. the fingers touch the intersection between the square and circle. and also, the angle by which the human figure's legs are open at in the circle forms an equilateral triangle!
everybody say WOW! now.
haha, call me a geek but that fascinates me.

kwee and i didnt really like it. and the instruction and intro menu of it was so retarded. didnt say a thing of what it is made of and giving stupid instructions. we ate without knowing what it is. we couldnt make out what that chopped up bits in the pancake-like food were. lettuce? it leaves a bitter aftertaste for me though.

thought it was pretty good and refreshing this year..
at least it kept me in my seat while it last
the arrangement of the chapters and the music sequences..
although the transition from the first chapter to second was a little abrupt..
the stage effects were pretty damn cool..
i would say it's a show well done!

ok, being the lazy me, i think ill leave the photos to fb.

anw, dated back to my taiwan trip.
i've uploaded the photos i have on fb. leok and caren are taking their own sweet time about it. haha.
that aside, it was an awesome trip albeit tiring.
things that left a deep impression: traffic, night markets, taiwanese girls' voices, meeting show luo, daniel's jokes, food, massage.

i'm UTTERLY amazed with their traffic situation and system. it is CHAOS.
how they manuveur the roads and lights is simply art in itself.
their road signs are so high up that i wonder how the drivers see?
the way they cut lanes is so dangerous and stunning. it's like doing a stunt. lol!
the space between cars are like a palm apart?! freaking near la.
damn scary!
their outdoor parking system oso damn cute. haha.
they will clamp ur car so to speak until u pay your fees. they dont even need gantries. hahaha
oh! and their bus system is simply awesome lo. 'awesome'
some buses, pay before u board the bus. some buses, pay before you alight the bus. others, pay when you board and alight the bus!
wth! damn confusing.
caren was scolded 奇怪 by the uncle for the wrong type of payment when we first tried to take the public bus. -.-''''

the night markets are true havens.

the standard of living there is lower hence CHEAP FOOD.
even restaurants. cheaper than expected.
and the CUA BING. YUMS. i miss it a lot.
i have found a substitute in singapore though. right at tiong bahru plaza. lol!

we were damn lucky throughout the whole trip..
we always 误打误撞 and end up where we wanna go or do or see.
lol! show luo was one instance.
went to his store near ximending. at some ulu place la. while searching for his shop, we met 2 v nice store attendants who thought that i was Jap. lol!

in fact, taiwan is v vibrant from what i feel.
oh! we went to partyworld there.
fantastic experience.
our ktv here sucks la.
the service over at taiwan is generally much better than in singapore.
they have their own toilet in the ktv room.
they serve plain water.
can bring food in.
the ktv and sound system were much better too.
and their price is cheaper!
argh.
so unfair.


and we were walking so much that our feet, shoulder and back (only me) hurts man..
massage was our saviour!
so shiok!
n cheaper than in SG.
and we will visit it every 2 days. lol.
the shifus were pretty good and friendly.
oh! and so many people mentioned that caren and i look like sisters.
haha!
ok la, we're practically sisters alr. we've known each other for like 13 years?
not only in taiwan, we get that a lot when we go shopping in SG too.
oh wells...


and and and, caren is so envious about the dogs in taiwan.
because....they can go practically EVERYWHERE.

she wanna bring her dogs to taiwan. lol.

we went to jiu fen too, the most northern part of taiwan, i think.
luckily there's daniel!
he's like our tour guide, bringing us everywhere in his car.
very fortunate to have him around.
he's damn funny la. cracking jokes and stuff.
and he's good at bargaining! so good for us! hahahaha.
oh and we saw lee teng hui, the ex president going for a dinner. got SNGs and all the reporters there. cool shit.

anyway, jiu fen was really pretty!
the air there is so much better than taipei. lol! expectedly!
the scenery there is *sigh* so beautiful.
unfortunately, it was drizzling a little.
we visited an old gold mine there!
so interesting.
too bad the 皇太子 musuem was not open.

and i was quite suay in that my menses came on the 2nd day. bummer!
couldnt go for hot spring. sians. lol.
but nvm, there's always another time!
our next destination would be korea, 东大门 :))))
but that's after i get a job. le sigh.
alrighty, cant really rem what else was memorable. maybe it'll come up some other time. haha.

well, i would say taiwan is a place worth going to for a holiday.
