CASE study challenge #50

This is the final week of our wonderful muse Dawn and what a fabulous card to go out on! I used elements of Dawn's design - floral panel mounted on dimensionals and a die cut border then I added some patterned paper which is quite unusual for me as I don't use my papers that often these days. I like the whimsical style of the stamps and the totally summer feeling looking at the card gives me!

Also last week blogger was playing up and didn't allow me to enter the details of our latest DT member Clare Buswell. Clare is amazing and, along with two other DT girls (Amy and Cristina), is in the final top 10 of the Gallery Idol competition! Wow! CASE study 1st anniversary blog hop

I can't believe that it's almost a year since CASE study started! In the words of Chupa herself:

Oh my! Such exciting news!

There's a little something I've been keeping under my hat. Correction, there's a HUGE something I've been keeping under my hat! Laura from Lil' Inker Designs with ag Designs has asked me to be on her Design Team! I can't quite believe I get to play with such fun stamps and dies. Yep that's right Lil' Inker produce the most amazing stamps WITH co-ordinating dies. Here's a little look at a couple of the sets. Cuuute or what!

Papertrey Ink July Blog Hop

Guess what - yep it's Papertrey Ink Blog Hop time! This month, for something a little different we have a photo to inspire us.

Just look at that yummy turquoise, green and orange colour palette. So inspiring! In addition to the colours I zoomed in on all those squares in the cushions and panelling of the window seat. So I recreated an older card of mine that I liked but with today's colour palette.

Having made one card, my daughter liked what she saw and asked me to make her birthday thank yous the same. So I cranked out some more squares on the trusty cuttlebug and voila!

Mojo? What mojo!

OK my mojo has deserted me, along with the sun and any decent light to take photos! I had hoped to make a bunch of projects for the Papertrey stamp-a-faire challenges but after my last attempt my brain is all fuzzy and I just need to chill out with my other half for the rest of the evening! Here's my attempt at challenge #4.

A colour challenge using these colours.

For the life of my I couldn't make anything I liked. I tried to include more of the colours but I only got as far as colouring the bling with a copic marker - my attempt at including a lighter blue! Time to call it a day and see what everyone else has been up to.

Back again!

Phew that was quick! You don't see me here in ages and now you can't get rid of me! Well, this is my card for PTI stamp-a-faire challenge #1. The brief for this challenge was "Create a project featuring patterned strips that are created with some of your favorite decorative elements." Well one of my go to background stamps is Polka Dot Basics II. I stamped one of the smallest dot stamps on to a rainbow of card colours with coordinating inks and then die cut them using the jar label die. Using just part of the die cuts I created a rainbow border for the little bird from tiny treats birthday to sit.

Isn't that little bird the cutest. I think he's my favourite from the set (but don't tell the other guys!).

This card also fits with the latest challenge over on the Color Throwdown blog.

Well I'm off to see what the third PTI stamp-a-faire challenge is! However, being in the UK we are heading for tea time and bedtime so MY time may be limited!

PTI and PDCC

Is that enough acronyms for you! Today over in Cincinnati the Papertrey Ink team are having fun at stamp-a-faire. Now as much as I'd love to be there it just isn't happening. I keep closing my eyes and wishing ... but nothing! So I'm trying to do the next best thing and join in with some of their hourly challenges they've set. Yes I did say hourly! For the next 10 hours! I'd like to think I'll be able to make a few but we will see.

So this card is for challenge number two "... YOUR take on pairing up a hot pink, like Raspberry Fizz, with a charcoal grey (like Smokey Shadow) ....". As I read that brief it occurred to me that it fit very well with this weeks the Play Date Cafe challenge - colour splash.

So here you go - a simple little thank you card (got to be simple with 10 challenges to think about!) using a splash of pink.

For Your Inspiration #10

Well hello there! This is my second post for today, so please scroll down to see my CASE study challenge post.

For Your Inspiration #10 is up today and here's the gorgeous photo.

Now who wouldn't be inspired by those fabulous, rich colours! I was also inspired by the steps so scored my cream panel in the lower third and then added a vellum flower coloured with a mixture of barn door distress ink and pumpkin pie ink.

The stem was coloured with peeled paint distress ink. I love how distress inks give such vibrant colour on vellum. To increase the intensity of the colour I painted on the front and back of the image and then curled the petals around a paint brush handle to give them dimension. A strip of terracotta tile card grounded the image and was a good lead from the sentiment.

CASE study challenge #49

Continuing on with our wonderful muse for July, Dawn Woleslagle, we have this fabulous card to inspire us.

From the original I used the double layered die cuts, central panel on a square card and the repeat patterning. And here is my card.

I've been wanting to try out a technique I've seen in various places but is new to me. Here's one example by Jennifer McGuire. I used two colours of distress inks and a squirt of glimmer mist to create a two tone, watercolour effect for the background panel. I really like the final result even if it did take me several attempts to get the right amount of inks and mist to give a good effect. You should see the colour of my fingers! Getting messy inky is not normally something I do but it was good fun!

The Play Date Cafe Challenge #90

Well just look at those gorgeous colours - I couldn't resist! To me the colours whispered of an autumn palette and so even though we are still in the throws of our summer holidays I reached for a leaf die and made this card.

I was inspired by Claire's card here to use the negative of the die cut to house a stamped peach parfait panel. I stamped the panel with a woodgrain stamp as I thought that kept with the nature theme.

What happens when you ask and ask and ask for something?

Eventually your Mum and Dad listen to your heartfelt pleas and let you have a pet!

It's a long story, but 18 months ago we lost our beloved dog, Jack. We adopted Jack when he was about 6 years old and we had a great 12 years with him by our side. However, the last few years were tough. He had kidney disease and needed a lot of love, care and attention which wasn't a problem but eventually we were the only ones who could look after him and basically it was hard work and at times very difficult to cope with. Finally the vet told us that it was time as Jack's condition deteriorated to the point that he would start to suffer and we made the heart wrenching decision to put him to sleep. At that point we said never again. Our hearts were broken and we were well aware of the commitment a pet involves.

Since then the children have wanted another pet but we have stood firm by our decision. My daughter, however, is mad on animals and just kept working on us! Over time our resolve weakened but we kept our change of heart to ourselves. On the morning of her birthday we let her open her presents. Then I handed her this card I'd made which on the inside instructed her to look outside the back door where a hutch stood!

 Later in the morning and to much delight we went and choose these two cute little girls as additions to our family.

They are settling in well and are being showered with so much love.

CASE study challenge #48

This is my first project as part of the CASE study design team! Now not only was I delighted to take on the DT spot but I was also thrilled to see that for July the muse is Dawn Woleslagle from Wplus9. I love Dawn's style and here is a classic example - our inspiration for this weeks challenge #48.

And here is my card.

From Dawn's inspiration picture I took the kraft and white combination with a sentiment panel and embellishment set to the right. Hopefully you can see where I was coming from.

Now I enjoyed making this card so much that I carried on and made another!

Again I used the kraft and white combination and sentiment panel; this time on vellum. I glittered some of the little fish. Perhaps you can see it better here.

I'm thinking of using this one for my daughter's birthday. She loves the outdoors and recently has taken a fancy to fishing. She will be 11 and my only thought is whether this is cutesy enough for an 11 year old. She's quite mature for her age and with a good eye for things however I'm not sure. Do you find that - making cards for your nearest and dearest is always harder as you agonise over all the details!

Catching up

Hello there! I thought it was time for a bit of a catch up. We are home once again after a spell of travelling. More on that in a minute as I just can't contain how honored I am that Jill Foster asked if she could feature me on her blog this week. Urm yes please!! Have you seen the people Jill has previously featured - some of my very favourite crafters! Jill is an amazing artist and I am so excited to see her interpretation of some of my projects. I don't have a card to share myself today as we only got home last night. However, here's a taster of our last few weeks. Grab a cuppa - there's a few photos coming!

For Your Inspiration #9

Wow just look at that gorgeous photograph! A fabulous image to tempt you to join us at For Your Inspiration! Myself, I was taken with those psychedelic windows on the left. I reached for my Modern Basics set by PTI and a stack of inkpads and got busy!

I added a few buttons - the shine of which again reminded me of the windows. So there you are a CAS cascade of psychedelic windows! Well that's what it says to me anyway!

Penny Black Guest Designer part 2

This is my second post as Penny Black Guest Designer. If you missed my first post you can check it out here.

So for my second post I thought I'd head to the more whimsical and fun stamps that Penny Black produce. I couldn't resist this little girl! I used Copic markers to colour her face and scarf and then paper pieced the flower and dress from Penny Black cardstock trios.

 I stamped her dress with a little flower from the Touch of Whimsy set, adding dimensional paint to the flower centres.

I couldn't do a Penny Black set without using one of their little hedgehogs! I love this cutie - it looks as if he's running to the birthday party!

 I kept this card simple and used Copics to colour the little guy and his balloon. The sentiment is part of one which I masked off the lower part. Then I dressed up the white space a bit with a banner cut from more of the cardstock trios. I love how rich the colours are with these trios and they are white on the back so great for using as a card base too.

Well that's the last of my Penny Black Guest Designer projects. I hope you've enjoyed seeing them. I had a ball and want to thank Jenyfur and Penny Black again for asking me along.
