Full Moon

The Full Moon has always played a major role in my life, for what ever reason....

Today,

Full Moon,

my friend passed through this life and is on another journey.  I'm hoping we get to meet again.  I love you Lil.

Three Things Thursday

Short and sweet:

  • Hill training on a bike is HARDER than hill training while running.  With my cold still very much present, I sound like a porn star when I'm trying to breath and gorp is stringing from my nose.  Not a very nice visual nor audio, and even worse when cycling for the first time with someone you hardly know.
  • Why is it when I look out the window and see trees blowing at 90 degree angles, I just don't want to go out on the bike?  The other day the wind was gusting at 60Kph and I was just about blown off the road.
  • How come I'm not finding the time to blog lately?

Three Things Thursday

My blogging and time on Facebook has gone by the wayside lately.  I'm back training and spending more time than ever before in the saddle, yes, I am still running but not as much since I don't have any "long" runs scheduled this year.

  • This weekend I'll be heading down to Kingston visit with my friend. I wasn't able to get there last weekend due to a miserable cold I picked up (again). I've been asked by family to come down and discuss some critical life decisions. Since I've been close to the family since I was 18 years old and am considered "family", my input, although it will not be a determining factor, will be considered since I do know how my friend would like to live or in this case die. She will hopefully know that I am there when I go to see her on Sunday. Levels of consciousness are now becoming vague and more often than not, she does not respond. Although she will sometime squeeze your hand if you ask her if she is in pain. I will be looking to the Great Above for guidance.  Please God show me the way and give me the strength I need to have so I don’t become a blithering idiot when I’m visiting.

  • My neighbour dropped over the other day to ask me when I was going to rake up the leaves that are still plasterd to my lawn.  Apparently there has been great discussions about the state of my property this spring...HELLO?  Excuse me, the snow melted ~ what 72 hours ago!!  Do I come over to your house and ask when you are going to clean up the pigstye you have IN your house?  NO!!!  Nuff said.....

  • Our weather has been stellar and dispite being sick (since October), I have been out for some pretty spectacular bike rides.  It has been windy, windy, windy but still nice nonetheless.  It feels great to have the sun on my face and bugs in my teeth.  I'm finding that cycling is even strengthening my knee.  Even though I still haven't had my Shimano RT80 shoes fitted for the clipless pedals yet (tomorrow, I promise, along with getting a computer and some bag accessories).  I've been using my shoes and can already feel a difference, however, one of the screws fell out of one of the clips so now I'll need to buy some spares.  I never knew that would happen.  I'm such a newbie...I even found a twelve week training schedule that I'm close to following for the RLCT, can you believe that in twelve weeks I'll be riding a double century.  Yup, 100k on the Saturday and cycling back on the Sunday....Yea ME!!!

Three Things Thursday

Life sure has its ups and downs, my friend who was air lifted from Florida last week has been given less than three months to live, her brain tumor is very aggressive and has grown 5cm within four days...Saturday will be her 80th birthday and knowing that she has lived an extremely long and adventurous life doesn't make it any easier, but I know she wouldn't want to linger incapacitated and in pain.

  • Our 1st Annual Winter Wooo Hooo Tri was an absolute scream!  Complete with swag bags, personalised team bibs and a whole lot of laughter.  Although trying to get this many women together on a particular day is like herding cats, we did it and had a blast.  The weather couldn't have been better and yes, we did have enough snow to snowshoe and crosscountry ski.  (report and photo's will be coming).

  • Why is it that the guys in this office insist on coming to work when they are sneezing, coughing AND throwing up???  What's with that??  Needless to say, I'm sick again because they come to my desk looking for sympathy, all the while sneezing, blowing their nose and throwing their tissues into MY wastebasket, telling me to stay away from them because they are contagious - trust me I'm not your mother nor your wife, you won't get sympathy from me ~ GO HOME!!

  • The weather has been absolutely gorgeous and uncharacteristic for this time of year, so I have been taking advantage of it and getting out on the bike.  I haven't had the opportunity to get my clipless pedals adjusted to my shoes yet, so I'm still a "clip virgin".  Luckily I wasn't clipped in the other day.  I went out cycling with my neighbour who I'm going to do the MS Bike Tour with in August.  We had a super ride and as we were heading home, her front tire went off the pavement onto the shoulder of the road, no big deal since she has hybrid tires, but she sort of panicked and tried to force her tire back onto the pavement, lost her balance and started to fall off. As she was hitting the pavement I jammed on my brakes and I couldn't head for the ditch nor the road, luckily I got stopped and didn't really run into her with any great force, however, as she tried to get up while we were still sort of tangled up she started to lift her bike up and scratched the front fork of Blizzard.   The good news is, neither one of us was injured (well other than her pride).   Ahhhh, the first crash of the season!

Three Things Thursday

Things have been hectic now that I'm back training so between cycling and running, I'm not sitting in front of my computer.  Please don't think I'm ignoring you, but I have to get my rear in gear for all of this summer cycling.

Life is busy in a good way.  This weekend is our first annual Wooo Hooo Winter Triathlon.  I'm organising this a little late in the season, but the weather gods have been very kind to us and we are expecting just stellar weather for this event.  Our tri consists of three teams of three.  Runners, xcountry skiers and snowshoer's.  It is going to be a hoot!  Team names are:  Fitzroy Flurries, The Snow Angels and the Uniboob Bombshells.  For anyone who has ever worn a sportsbra, you'll understand the context to later name, and yes, that is the team I am on!!!

Bear with me while I ask this question, Can Cancer Really Be Beaten???  I'm struggling to believe this right at the moment.  My very good friend who had a brain tumour removed this past fall was given a clean bill of health and off she went to her winter home in Florida.  I recieved a phone call on Sunday that she has been hospitalised and is in a coma, the tumour has returned with a vengence.  Please tell me that they didn't know that a cancerous tumour would grow so rapidly that within two days, she is virtually gone.  One of my running partners (not a Wooo Hooo), informed me on Sunday morning that she has been diagnosed with Breast Cancer, her surgery is on the 16th.  She is a nutritionist and is fit, fit, fit, what chance do we mere mortals have if someone who has dedicated their life to being healthy is diagnosed with cancer?  It boggles my mind as to where all this money goes that we so gleefully walk / run and fund raise for, right now I'm not a believer.

Our weather has been unbelievable this winter, (sorry, I know the rest of you have had to deal with craptastic weather), I actually got my very first ride on Blizzard the other day.  It was only 15km but holy schnittzzzz that bike is F.A.S.T.!  This morning I've received two emails asking if I'd like to join in on a 40K ride this Saturday, but since I'm committed to the winter tri, a group of us are going to cycle on Sunday after our run.

Life's fun if you don't weaken,

Lily
