He hasn't changed one bit!
About a month ago I asked Oliver what he wanted to do for his birthday. All year it's been different things: I want a party a Chick-Fil-A, I want to go to the beach, etc.
So when I told him it was down to the wire and he had to decide once and for all, he said:
"I don't want a party, or a cake, or presents, or any of that stuff. I just want to go to the Lego store with Henry, and buy Legos."
Wow. Okay. That is so sweet I want to just smushify him.
So I found out that the Lego store has a club meeting the day before his birthday where he gets a kit for the monthly "build item", and gets to hang out with other kids in the club and build and explore the store a whole hour before it opens.
So, on the day before his birthday (a Saturday), we went to the Lego store and Henry and his dad met us there. Charlotte joined in the fray while Gabe and I wandered around the mall looking in all the shops that were still closed.
Meanwhile....
The Lego store was offering all kinds of excitement!
The kids looked at mini-figures, and new items on display.
Oliver was planning his later in the day birthday purchase.
Then the fun began with the Lego building. This month's model was an apple with a little caterpillar crawling out of it. Adorable. It even has a leaf.
All done! Posing with their apples. Charlotte is taking a bite out of hers and Henry's face cracks me up.
THEN! After the building business was over, the children got to pick a bucket worth of Legos off the independent pieces wall. Look at those choices!
Decisions, decisions!
In this wall, they have options to just fill a container, or you can fill a specific tray with pieces to make a certain little item. On this day, the item was a little turtle.
Happy with all those Legos!
Oliver's other activity of choice was to take Henry to Chick-Fil-A for lunch. Henry was kind enough to bring him a present. Two presents actually!
Oliver spent a lot of time shaking the boxes and just knew they were Legos!
I think Henry may have been more excited for Oliver than Oliver was for himself!
Star Wars Legos and Ninjago Legos!
This is one happy kid!
From there we said farewell to Henry, and went on to the shops to choose a cake for Oliver, and then I was headed to the temple for a Volunteer shift for the open house. But, we were gearing up for our little family party the next day when Oliver was getting some very exciting things....
At the store, Oliver chose his meals for his birthday since we weren't going to eat out on Sunday. He chose Reeses puffs for breakfast (big surprise there!), chicken nuggets for lunch, and homemade pizzas for dinner.
While we waited for our pizza dough to rise, we called Grandma on Hangouts so she could watch him open his present (Toad Treasure Trackers and a Toad amiibo). That in itself was kind of hilarious because he opened it, then jumped up and left to go play it on the Wii.
He bolted right off the computer, so she couldn't see his reaction, but he loves that little amiibo, and loves the interaction with the game. On Monday when I woke up, I saw him huddled on the couch with the controller and his amiibo just playing away :)
After one present and some pizza, we had some cake and then more presents! Here is his cake of choice:
Then we opened some more presents. He got a Star Wars Lego Movie with a mini figure inside, and he also got a game to go with his present from Grandma and Grandpa A.
You can watch him open that present if you like.
I am neverendingly happy that this little kid is part of our family. He is the sweetest and most thoughtful little guy I know. He's so sensitive and kind and requires a lot of love! But he gives all of that love back 10 fold. He has a belly laugh that makes everyone around him laugh, and he's full of light and sparkle. I love him, love him, love him.
