captain underpants
I'll have more pics from this week in Minnesota after I have a chance to download them, but here are some on my SiL's blog of the newest nephew! (and I love the name--how many of you can guess which book inspired it?)

spinal
My friend Marge alerted all her readers to a nifty idea: spine poetry. I was enchanted and decided to give it a try with stuff on my own shelves (though I didn't limit the books to children's stuff).

The dare this week over at Daring Cardmakers features one of my most favoritist things: birds!
I went with a chickadee, using a wall stencil to paint the bird. Inside is blank, as I'm not sure what I'll use it for yet, but it's so nice and sunny that it probably should be a get well-type card!

When's the last time you did bean art?
I wish I could remember, as it's pretty nifty when you think about it. That time might be as far back as elementary school art class!
I was reminded of it by this Etsy shop and really wanted to make some. Fortunately for me, we have a bag of old beans from a soup mix in the pantry (I was using them for pie weights, but now I have real pie weights), so I pulled them out and started playing.
This is just a basic layout to get the rudimentary colors set~I'll make the final one a bit bigger with more beans to show variations.
I had been thinking canvas, but Chip suggested I transfer it to a piece of wood, which sounds a little more folksy and fits the style. Now to decide the size of the final project...

coloration
This submission for Colorful Monday is a bit of a mystery. The color this time is black and Chip suggested I get a picture of these little seeds (and their pods):
The thing is, neither of us remembers what they are! If anyone can help us out, we would appreciate it.
Update: smart folks have alerted me to the fact that they are nigella seeds. Check out the comments for a nifty link about them!
