Nurses Day 2014

Recently, my office had our Nurses' Day Celebration on the 21st August, even though the official Nurses' Day lies on 1 August. Yep, we are always a tad later/slower than others, even for salary increment. Oops. Anyway, it was a fabulous night because everyone dressed up for the occasion. Most of us worked till 3 or 4 pm then we started fussing over the event which would commence at 530pm sharp. To be exact, all of us were busy with putting make up and donning our costumes because there were prizes given to the top 6 best dressed! As Ching Shean and I were the judges, it was really a fun time for us. Haha. No one knew who were the anonymous judges. We were given a criteria sheet at the very last min and that made the selection process a little tough. It is even harder for us to decide because most of the nurses were dressed to the nines! Another highlight of the night was to play dress up for Calvin, the big boy. You shall see pics of him dressing up in a cheongsam later on. Alright, here are the photos, enjoy!

But first, let me take a selfie. Haha. This is me with zero make up on, in our counselling room. You can see my two big pimples in here.
Calvin, acting gu niang in this peranakan outfit, prepared by Lydia. This was the first costume that he picked, but later on we figured that the black cheongsam looks better on him.
Zero image here. Haha. Cant believe this chap is the supervisor of Dementia Day Care Centre (DDCC)
Ching Shean and I spent a lot of time doing this for the nurses. 100%  made with love!
The final costume that Calvin decided to wear. This is Lydia helping him with his outfit. FYI, Calvin is crossdressing because our MC members asked him if he has any surprise for them during this year's nurses day. Last year he made them laugh like mad.
Sexy legs! Lydia, being such a prude, feels that this costume is too indecent for him. Haha.
That's my boss in the background. He was featured in the papers for being an inspiring social worker few years back then.
Haha, this one made me laugh!
Ok now it's our turn to dress up!
Tadaa! Finished product. The flower headband is courtesy of Ching Shean. She says I will look more feminine with that. We had a fun time changing in the counselling room.
Ching Shean and I. She is wearing a myanmar costume while I donned a Baju Kurung. These new year decorations ought to be removed la.
Then it's time for us, the judges to go up and see what the others are wearing. The event was held at Level 4, the auditorium. There were a few tables of  VIPS, which include our long time donors and our members of the commitee.
Our emcees. Michelle from SPICE (Singapore Programme for Integrated Care for the Elderly) and the other one I dunno who.
No money for champagne so we have sparkling juice instead. Heh
We are super old school. Few will use red chairs like this these days. A bit obiang la.

                                Head of HR department, Constance.
                                    Pretty Myanmar nurses!
                                       Myanmar nurses part 2
Senior staff nurse, Marivic and Doris of my department. Doris has worked for 15 years while Marivic has stayed for 9 years. Long service award!

Alice from HR department. She is the most humorous person I know in office. Her daughter is getting married on 25 Oct this year and I am invited. That would be the first ever wedding I have attended on my own!
Joyce the newbie from HR, Ann from Public Relations.
I think I look quite fair in this picture.
Mr Yap, our head of the organization, delivering his thank you speech.
Carol and Alice. All of us sat at the same table.

A token of appreciation to our nurses. This was drawn by residents from my art class. Heehee.
                                  Sparkling juice. Yum Seng
Now, let the performances begin! This was my favourite one throughout the night because these guys sang really well! If they do not want to be nurses one day, can try being musicians.

Contemporary Chinese dance by the DDCC staff.

Nara, doing her Indian Bollywood dance solo. That was really impressive!

These were a few of the finalists that we shortlisted. This is Odessa, in the filippino costume that costs $400.
This is Dominic. He changed his costume! Previously he was wearing the  Malay costume.
Finally it's Calvin's turn to shine! Haha.. We spent a while putting make up for him. As a result, I missed quite a number of performances.

Shake your bom bom, shake your bom bom!
It's amazing how he can run in heels! Haha. After all these, he told me that it is so tiring to be a woman! Haha. Removing make up already took up 15 mins and I helped him with it. Very good service okay!
More pics! Me, Ching Shean and Lydia
                                            Doris and myself
Calvin finally being himself again. Performing a duet with yanrong.

This shocked us all for a moment. Haha what is she doing on the floor? But we figured that out la, she's always a little attention seeking.
Oh, so here's what they were up to...
Hip hop dance by our nurses once again.

Calvin again! This one is another showy character. He loves to perform! Here is Cheng Hua with him. Both are in-charge of DDCC.

The finalists of the Best Dressed competition! Chosen by us. Haha.
I think they each won cash, just of varying amounts.
Yay! I got a prize too. My first ever apple product. Ipad Mini! I have started using it for a few days and it's time to get a sleeve for this baby.

Thank you nurses for looking after my beloved residents!
