River Safari

Finally I am posting the pictures taken during river safari trip! Went there on the third day of CNY, only to post it up months later. Haha. That's how much backlog I have here. Fret not, at the end of the day I'll still get things done. Let's say that I wasnt very very impressed with the boat ride, which is the highlight of the place. It was merely a 10 minute ride and I didnt get to see many animals probably because they were napping or hiding. The ride was slow and there were a few bumps here and there,  still relatively gentle. I didnt get to see both pandas as well. Only managed to see Kai Kai and viewed Jia Jia through the television because she feels shy among strangers. Hmm.. overall it was an okay experience. No wow factor. I wonder why there was so much attention placed on the opening of this place. In my opinion, the zoo is still better! Some things, though they have been there for a longer time, are still much more better than the newer, fanciful, commercialized attractions that are sprouting. These good old things cant be replaced. Here's a brief photo walkthrough for you, if you hadnt visited the river safari yet! Warning: Long post ahead.

Can you spot the turtle in here?

I think there is a crocodile lurking behind the muddy soils.
Rock fish that can camouflage fairly well.
Catfish! Oops, I ate this fish once at Jack's Place when I was a kid. Guilty as charged.
I like this photo because I dun look too fat in this one. Haha.

Look! A rainbow on my foot! Okay very lame.

Look Ma, I caught a  fish!

I  love this photo and I am amazed at how my out of date camera can capture this shot so well.

This little frog can camouflage so well!

Another one of my favourites. Man made sampans. Relieving kampung days.

Visited the Mama Panda Kitchen restaurant during lunch time. If you never go to this place when you are at river safari, never ever tell others! They will laugh at you. Haha. I am serious, photos of the panda pau went viral on facebook m instagram when this place first opened.
Considered pricey for merely a red bean/chocolate pau. But who cares when it's so so adorable!
Super duper cute can! Worthy of my $2.90. Taste wise, it's just your normal tau sar pau, with the novelty factor.
                                              Crispy karaage chicken
Chicken Bamboo Rice. I have a thing for bamboo rice, because somehow rice cooked in bamboo containers are so much more fragrant! The last time I ate bamboo rice was when I went Taiwan years back.

Here's a picture of me holding the very adorable panda pau! It's a mandatory shot with cutesy looking food. Haha
Sister with her two panda paus! I should learn to make this someday! Remember my kaya buns?
A drawing of the red panda.

This is it! I find it cuter than  Kai Kai and Jia Jia. Haha.

A better view this time. It reminds me of a raccoon.

The panda eats bamboo and  other vegetables but it's still so fat! Note to those that only eat vegetables to lose weight, look at the panda first before joining fad diets! Exercise still the best la.
Kai Kai, which was described as the inactive and "shy" one. Contrary to the descriptions, Kai Kai seems more playful and outgoing. Jia Jia which was described as the "active" one didnt want to come out of her habitat instead. These descriptions do not tally, strangely.

                                                         6 fingers!
Plus point about this place is that they let you be up close and personal with the animals! I was standing so close to the bird that the trainer held in her hands!

This photo is so hilarious. It's like the pelican is the extra one. It must be thinking: why must I stand next to these strange looking figures?
Here's a pic of us in the boat.

These are the animals we  managed to see during the boat ride.
I love the flamingoes for their long stick thin legs and their flexible necks .
It's the most elegant and poised animal in the animal kingdom.

That's all we saw during the boat ride. Not many pics as most of the animals were not around, either sleeping or probably eating somewhere else.

It's feeding time for the dugongs, otherwise known as sea mermaids. Its main diet consists of lettuce and other vegetables, another vegetarian with no svelte figure. Haha

                                    Basking under the hot sun.

Us pretending to be ferocious pandas
In the Noah's Ark, oops I meant boat.
That sums up our journey to the river safari, which took around 2.5 hours, including lunch hour. I wasnt impressed with this place and I still cant understand what's the hype all about. I still prefer my good old zoo with my favourite giraffe. Haha. I probably wouldnt want to visit this place again, unless I get free tix haha!
