Get Well Soon

Was at Ttsh for e past 2 days as dad was hospitalized. Till date, the results of his scans are still inconclusive and all we can do is to wait to find out what's wrong with him. Looking at e bright side, he seems really chirpy n cheerful while at e ward, probably because he is assured that he's in good hands under e nurses' n docs' care. Anyway, I got him a smiley face balloon! A few other patients in e ward were pleasantly surprised by this helium fellow bobbing up n down.. Haha..
Gotta visit dad again after work today n probably for e next few days as well.

Goodies from Europe

In this post, I am going to show you the special gifts I have received from my aunt and cousin during their recent Europe trip in Dec 2013. Ok, sounds a bit too serious huh! Relax la!
Yay! Longchamp Planetes Medium Long Handle, a pair of porcelain clogs (trademark of Netherlands) and a giant Kinder Surprise! Yes! My bag for CNY is settled. Great :)
Anyway, do you know that Singapore doesnt sell Kinder Surprise anymore? Sad :( Now all I see is Kinder Joy, the one with two small choc balls inside. And the size of the toy? Really really miniscule. Sometimes, newer isnt always better. Kinder Surprise was part of my childhood and I got to save up to buy it cuz during those days, I was still a poor kid la. I always peel the choc away first, open up the toy, construct it, then eat the choc after that. Haha.. Too excited about the surprise within the chocolate. Thus, I was really excited when cousin told me she bought this! It means a HUGE toy! Haha.. the price is rather on the steep side though! $15?
A closer look at my souvenirs. I have always wanted these clogs, be it wooden or porcelain.
Dun say I not appreciative ok! Did this collage to show my many many heartfelt thanks! Especially when I am rushing for time now! I am going to bring down all my barang-barang to sis's house and will be stationed there for the next 3 months due to work. So this marks the first time I am leaving my home sweet home in the north for such a long time (my overseas exchange was only 40 days loh) and moving over to a faraway place.

The little moose says hi! So adorable right! Cuteness overload... This is like 2 to 3 times bigger than  my usual toy from the normal sized kinders.
Compare it with the size of my palm. You can even rattle it! Hehe.

That's all for now! I aim to blog once per week (hopefully!) since I wont be bringing my beloved lappy with me while I am at my sister's place, so this would be the last post of this week.  Have a great week ahead, readers :)

Heather chua

I am slightly more active on Facebook now, after being dormant for this whole period. Updated my profile pic with a recent one. The previous pic was 2 years ago! Anyway e reason for my comeback is because I want to share with others about e existence of an obnoxious person, heather chua n his or her mischief. No one knows if heather is a male or female, whether is she as rich as she claims. The gist is, she looks down on hdb dwellers, sg males n now her latest post is really really racist. Whether is she a fictitious character or not, it doesn't really matter. However, when sensitive issues such as a person's race is involved, I believe we should try to nab this fellow n nip e problem in e bud. We are a country that values racial harmony. If you can't do that, please, you aren't welcomed here. I sincerely hope you will get tracked down soon, heather.

Happy New Year 2014

It's the first day of 2014 and hereby, I sincerely wish everyone a good new year ahead! Yesterday night I went to my first ever countdown party at Nee Soon South open field, though I have stayed in Yishun for more than two decades.. It was a nice first experience for myself, as well as for Breadman. It's really nice to have a first in everything! I nv expect myself to be part of neighborhood countdown parties which are usually deemed as "very auntie uncle", since more often than not, the masses consist of middle age people. So the theme for that night was Xinyao (新谣)and old school mandarin songs such as 细水长流 and 朋友 were sung by artistes. It really brought back fond memories of the past as well as my childhood days. I am not sure if the 90s kids can understand or even appreciate these songs anymore, which is kind of sad :(
Some things will always be good...

The organizers were considerate enough to prepare a few big screens around the field so as to cater to people standing further away from the stage, like myself. Haha. That's Cavin Soh singing and he's generally good cuz he used to be a singer from the band called Dreamz FM.
The masses. Not extremely crowded, probably due to the drizzle earlier on... I even spotted a man selling Ding Ding Tang! Teleport back to the olden days....

Actually, I wasnt really excited about the counting down or whatever, I mean it just means another day has passed and no special meaning to me. I mean do u countdown to the end of each day? No right? I hope I  made my point here... So I was just there for the fireworks display! Er, so I was there just for the 5 to 10 mins display? Of course not! I reached there around 1130 pm and I left at 1230am. So I listened to the songs and sang along with them. Not to mention swaying my body as well.. haha...

There, the amazing fireworks! Not as spectacular as that we seen in the national day parade, but still as dazzling. Let's just stop ourselves from thinking about the air and noise pollution that this thing generates temporarily and to enjoy its beauty....Anyway, this isnt the full duration of the fireworks display but just part of it. Cuz I figured that I should just appreciate the display instead of trying so hard to video the whole thing.. haha.

Yay, my first neighbourhood countdown party! Mission accomplished.

Menya Musashi Revisited

Previously I blogged about Menya Musashi, the Ion outlet, this time around my sister and I went for the one at Vivocity. This ramen place is really good, so good that I decided to revisit it. Nah, the truth is, sister made the decision about the eating place and I just gladly agreed since she is the one paying! Haha.. Sister always say I am a blood sucking leech, sucking her money away from her. Totally untrue!I have been so nice to her that I feel that I totally earned that meal. Hehe. Helping her run errands and accompanying her to furniture shops are a few of the things I have been doing with her recently. After all, we are gonna be moving in together to our new apartment just within these few months, so it's therefore very much important to forge good relations.
This time around, instead of having ramen in which this place is renowned for, I decided on a Musashi Hijiki Tsukune Rice Set ($13.90) because it consists of a little bit of everything. Kinda japalang feel. This satisfies me because I get to taste different dishes at an economical price. To be frank, when I placed order for this, I had no idea what the meatballs were made of. The most amusing thing was, from the first bite till the last, I still had no inkling of what I had eaten. Is it pork? Fish? Chicken? It tasted like fish paste, no wait, probably chicken bits finely mashed... Shouldnt be pork because there was no porky taste. To my delight, after googling on its menu while preparing to write this post, I realised I had eaten chicken! Chicken tsukune. Hijiki refers to a variant of seaweed while tsukune is a type of chicken meatball prepared in yakitori style. So putting two and two together, I had eaten yakitori style seaweed chicken meatball. Haha..... Dun ask me why I did not enquire the waitress for this... In addition, there is also no description for each of the food item you see on the menu. All you see are pics of food items and the prices. Anyway, this rice set consists of a trio of chicken meatballs, a runny egg, a bowl of rice, long beans and squid in sesame dressing and a typical bowl of miso soup. I had no complaints for this rice set, everything was really good! The long beans were crunchy, squid were springy, meatballs were surprisingly humongous and delectable (you know how hard it is for food to be in big portions but tasty at the same time right!), last but not least the runny egg was beautifully prepared. I dun usually eat uncooked or half boiled eggs, so I only ate the egg white which appeared more cooked. The portion for this rice set is really really huge! I couldnt finish it so my sister polished up the rest for me. Strongly recommend this dish for anyone who is extremely hungry, yet greedy enough to want to try out everything. I love ordering rice sets like this because you get to eat different food and the prices are quite affordable, hence you get the best of both worlds.

Sister decided to have Black Iso Ramen (Spicy Seafood) which costs $14.90 and it is actually ramen cooked in garlic broth with squids, scallops and prawns, topped with spring onions as condiments. Oops, I missed out on the bamboo shoots, which I absolutely abhor. I think Japanese restaurants really love adding bamboo shoots to everything because it enhances and brings out the flavour of the mains. According to sister, this is pretty tasty and the broth is not too salty. The noodles are really springy and they require a few bites. Chef does not stinge with the usage of seafood as well. Probably that sweetness from the seafood balanced the saltiness of the broth. Once again, the portion is too huge! Not sure if our appetites have shrunk (our waistlines havent! hahah) over the years, but somehow nowadays we complain about the serving size being too big. Thus, in order not to waste food, next time please ask for a smaller portion.
Sister also ordered a plate of fried squid as a side dish ($3) which was served with a dollop of mayonnaise. This was really oily! I ate one piece and with each bite it was as though the oil was spurting out in my mouth. Ok finally some minor complaints in here. Haha..

Anyway I just realised that the different Menya Musashi outlets have different menus. So do check out their website first before heading down to have your meal, just in case that ramen you crave isnt available at that particular outlet. Overall, I am glad to have found a place that not only serves good ramen but rice sets as well!

Total Damage Done: $37.20 (for 2 pax)
