Heartfelt Christmas

This week on the Heartfelt Creations blog, I have a layout to share with the new Festive Christmas line.

I have used two of the background sheets for this. I have fussy cut each of the flower and lantern elements and then layered them over the original image to create some more dimension. I then added the ornaments from another page and popped them up on foam tape. I also used lots of stickles on this layout for all the tiny details, so it shimmers really nicely.

If you are thinking about getting started on Christmas cards anytime soon, then I would strongly suggest that you head over to the blog to see lots of stunning examples from the team, including a really gorgeous tag from Joanne.

Now, I probably shouldn't say anything yet, but if you love this range like I do, and would like some help making some lovely Christmas cards, and you are in the Brisbane area, you may like to stay tuned for some news coming up soon.

Last, but not least, thanks so much to those people who have left me messages saying they have voted for my work for Heartfelt as part of the new DT call. It doesn't determine exactly who gets back in, but it lets the admin team know that mine is a style you would like to keep seeing. I appreciate everyone's support. If you haven't voted yet and would like to, you still can, just follow this link: VOTING LINK   There are 9 days left to vote, and you can even win a gift voucher for your troubles.

Lovin' Layouts | Alicia Barry |

Today I have a layout that I have created using a combination of new and older paper collections. My background is created using papers from the Cook collection, while the embellishments come from the brand new Handi Scandi line.

The frame is made using a Spellbinder 5x7 Heirloom Legacy die. I cut it from white cardstock, and then sprayed it using paint mists, to make it match the flowers from the patterned paper.

The flowers and leaves are hand cut from patterned paper, then all the rest of the embellishments are from the die-cut and tag packs.

Supplies used:
Handi Scandi Strip It
Handi Scandi Die-Cut pack
Handi Scandi tag pack
Handi Scandi Twine pack

Festive Christmas! Yes, that's right...Christmas

One of the strangest things for me as a designer is making Christmas projects in the middle of the year. Obviously it's a privilege to have the new releases before they go to market, and it's important to have samples to show the retailers, but it just feels a bit odd.

Having said that however, I really loved working with this collection. This new collection from Heartfelt Creations is a truly beautiful line. I love the traditional colour scheme and the ornament images are just perfect.

Here's my first project for the Heartfelt Creations blog using this pretty collection. Check out the gorgeous little lantern.

Now, if you like that, you will love the treat box that Liz Walker made this week, and the amazing card by Karan Gerber. I'm so luck y to design with people like this.

Speaking of which, thank you to those kind people who have voted for my work as part of the selection process for the new Design Team call, I really appreciate it. If you haven't, but you'd like to, you can find the link here

Tuesday Tutorial: Altered clipboard | Alicia Barry

I really love creating beyond the page projects and this month I thought I would share some simple instructions on how I made this very easy altered clipboard that I found at my local office supply store. I have again used the beautiful Heritage paper range, along with a stunning new Spellbinder die.

A little wad of notepaper could be added to the clip for a functional piece, or a photo could be clipped in and out at will treating the clipboard as an interchangeable photo frame display.

Step 1:
Ink the edges of the clipboard where the paper may not cover. Pay extra attention to the area around the metal clip.

Step 2:
Cut a piece of patterned paper to fit, but tracing the clipboard onto the back of the paper. Once cut, measure the space around the metal clip, and remove a rectangular piece to fit. I recommend, a clean rectangular rather than trying to make it fit exactly, as this may look messy if it is not an exact fit. (hence, the inking in step 1. Adhere the paper in place.

Step 3:
Die cut a decorative shape onto white cardstock, and adhere in place. (adhere in the centre only, leave the outer edges free).

Step 4:
Fussy cut some floral sections from the patterned paper. Arrange the floral pieces on the opposite corners of the clipboard, tucked under the main die cut, along with a patterned die cut. Use some foam dots to elevate the outer parts of the flowers.

Step 5:
Embellish the corners of the clipboard, by layering Heritage paper florals, along with Spellbinder bitty blossoms spiral flowers. The lower cluster has a tied ribbon bow tucked under the large flower, and both clusters include Spellbinder Foliage Flourishes made from co-ordinating patterned paper.

Finally I added a butterfly sticker (raised on foam dots) to the bottom cluster and added some 3D butterfly stickers to both the top and bottom.

Beyond the page with Alicia

02-RRCT- blogg banner

This time around my the Beyond the Page feature I thought I would do something a little different to my usual projects. I have spent the past couple of weeks planning for my daughters 5th birthday party. Like most girls on the planet is seems she requested a Disney Frozen party. I was secretly very excited to be able to get on board with this one.

I straight away started to think of ideas for decoration. With the main criteria being blue, silver, and sparkly, the Bella! Glitz paper was paper, and make this project so much easier than it could have been. I began by making Elsa crowns for all the girls and Sven antlers for the boys. I found a template online, then just printed it, traced it and cut it. I added some Bella! Bling to the front and some ribbon and it was done, It was literally that easy. Some of them Mum's though I had brought them rather than made them. The kids all loved them. I did make one extra special one for my daughter, so that she would stand out. I used a Bella! Bling flourish.

While I was at it, I also made a stack of snowflakes on my Cricut from the same Bella Glitz paper. (Tip: I used the muti cut function as the paper is thicker than most, and it worked beautifully). I even used strips of silver Glitz paper around the water bottles.

Products used:
Bella! Glitz Powder
Bella! Glitz: Silver

Heartfelt news

Due to some technical difficulties on my part last week, my project didn't make it to the Heartfelt Creations blog, so this week I have two to share. First of all is a layout using the Cut, Create, Mat dies and paper collection. I also used a die from Raindrops on Roses and Sun Kissed Fleur flowers.

Next up I made a little gift tag holder from a fry box.

Also up this week on the Heartfelt Creations blog is the new Design Team call. This is a wonderful team to belong to and I hope I get remain for another year, but I know lots of other people might be interested also, so if that is you, be sure to check out the details, CLICK HERE.

Something that Heartfelt Creations do that is a little different is to poll readers on what they like to see on the blog and what inspires them, to help choose a team that the people want to see. It's quite clever really. To So, to have your say, head over the the blog  here. You can vote for your favourite 5 designers. If you like what you see on my blog here, I'd love for you to take a moment to vote for my work, to tell the Heartfelt Team that you'd like to keep seeing my work.  Thanks so much.
