Crochet with ribbons

One day, Sister Christine Davies brought in boxes and boxes of ribbons to give away to the RS sisters. I took some. This is what I did to them. Crocheted with a 9mm hook and two ribbons together....the basic pattern, I learnt it from the blog by 'laughing purple goldfish (really a great blog with lots of step by step details)', modifying it after realising that I dont have enough ribbons to make a bag - :-(
It thus became a basket to put my yarn while I crochet so that the ball can still roll about freely, but not all over the place.....The yarns in the basket would be my next crochet project - I want to do a bag...yes, a bag!! ( that would be my 5th attempt at making a bag - all my previous attempts ended up being anything but a bag (one of them also ended up as a basket for my nativity display....). If anyone thinks my ribbon basket is pretty, it is flash photography trick - if you could only see my crude hand sewing on the lining, yes, eyes will roll! Ha ha but I am still happy - this is my first attempt at doing lining...first timers are always allowed disasters for everything... :-) ..Second picture - the mess I have created at just a single sewing project.......

Nativity sets

After reading Vanalee's blog about how a little kid re-arrange her nativity set, I wanted to rearrange mine the way the kid did. I do like them better after the rearrangement - having all of them focusing on baby Jesus does give out a special effect to the arrangement. The first picture is before, and the second is after the re-arrangement. This set is my latest addition - purchased from the Philippines. It was a little heavy on my budget but my feet would not budge away eventhough my mind has said - "no, poh peng....you are not allowed to buy this set......". after almost 30 mins (well to me at least), of having my feet stuck to the ground, I finally said "oh what the heck - let's get them". With that, my feet started to move again...towards the collection and payment counter! This set is made from volcanic ash of the 1991 eruption of Volcano Pinatubo, Philippines.

Another one re-arranged too......(this set below was given to me by Sister Bryne...my visiting teachers came to visit me today and said they loved this set).

Merry Christmas everyone........

My Christmas tree....thro' the years.......

As I wonder what will be my next post, I thought, "Hey, let's document the progress I have made in decorating my Christmas tree through the years".

My choice of decor is a slightly different from those you see in the stores because I want my Christmas tree to remind me of what Christmas is all about - Jesus Christ.

My Christmas tree, first came to my home in 2005, was salvaged from the dump by Jane Chong from her office. As I looked at the pictures below, I realised my decorating skills haven't improved much, other than playing musical chairs with them....hmmm....

2008 - Minus my diy paper trimmings (2005), less baubles, but my "Samuel the Lamanite" card (from Primary lesson) and my Christ's pictures kept their places on my tree still.....I like the poster - made up of three posters I purchased from the distribution center in the Philippines.

2005 - ........economy of course is on top of my mind (see all those diy papercut trimmings and New Era cards............ha ha~)

2006 - yippee, IKEA came to the rescue with a big box of ornaments at a price less than S$7......(- on hindsight in 2008, most of the IKEA ornaments - icicles, baubles etc, had to go back into the big box - too much things to be hung on my little tree......). Added some Christmas baubles from "RS Christmas ornaments exchange party" and Hieu's share of ornaments helped too in filling up the space.......Did you see the "two red cutie smiling faces" on the tree? It was actually a handout card for a blood donation drive - got it from walking along Orchard road - thought it would make a nice Christmas decoration as well.... :)...guess I must have gone overboard that year.....(see my Samuel the Lamanite card? I love that one!)..

2007 - Pres. Hinckley's '6 Bees' got the front spot. "Be Your Best" - Be Grateful, Be True, Be Smart, Be Humble, Be Clean, Be Prayerful. (In 2008, this spot was taken up by Christ' pic with the words "Be even as I am". Nicely summed up, I think).

My first apron

My first attempt at cost savings during this economic turmoil times - sew my own apron! (well, it would have been cheap if i didnt have to send the sewing machine for its annual healthcheckup....)
