A few days after the kids got out for the summer, we packed into the car and headed to California! By we, I mean, the kids and ME! Last summer we had such a blast doing it, so I decided to try it again! This time I drove all by myself. It was actually quite dreamy. The kids were really well-behaved.
First we stopped in Chandler for a couple days to hang out with the Sheffields! We ate at Rudy's, went to a candy factory, Jace locked the bathroom doors and we spent hours trying to unlock them (good times!), we talked, the kids played... It was really fun!
a giant white chocolate bar at the candy factory!
candy factory tour
tasting candy!
We had a great time in Chandler, then headed to California! We did lots and lots of stuff. It was DREAMY
We went to the beach as much as we possibly could. Let's face it, my kids are so well behaved there and always play so well, I get a tan... it works people.
We went to Oceanside to walk the pier one evening.
I got to meet up with some friends at the beach! So fun to see old friends!
Game nights with my mom and dad!
We went to La Jolla shores one day. I love this place! It's so pretty and there are lots of sea lions and sea life. I took Makenna snorkeling. It was a little scary for her because the waves were coming in and she kept getting pummeled! She was such a trooper, though, and was able to see some fish. We will try again in a spot that is more mellow!
We went on a hike at Torrey Pines one day with my cousins, the MacDonalds, who were down from Utah. It was so beautiful. Don't let this picture fool you... I ended up carrying Cami for almost the whole thing! It was a hard hike for mama, but so pretty!
We at blackberries and blueberries to our hearts content! The blackberries grow wild in my mom's backyard.
We saw some movies at grandpa's theater. Grandpa even let us see how the movies are projected. We also got to go up on the movie theater roof. It was an awesome view up there!
Another beach trip down to Coronado. The sand was so flat, and the water was great because it went out pretty far before it dropped. It was super windy, though, and we got pelted by sand!
Jace's awesome power ranger kite we bought.
Mommy and Cami laying out haha
My girls!
She had to be right on me or next to me while I laid out. haha It was pretty funny.
We played tennis with grandpa!
We went to the Zoo Safari park (previously Wild Animal Park). It was really fun to see the animals from the Safari train.
Cami loved petting the goats, once she realized you could brush them! She didn't want to stop!
More beach! DUH!
We also got to see my friend, Megan, for lunch while we were down. We didn't hang out as much as we wanted to, but at least we got to see each other the one day! Cami kept teasing Caleb... stinker!
We also saw a Padres game with grandpa one afternoon.
One more cute beach picture!
Kenna had her first pedicure! Kara freaks out when she is being massaged... haha
The Sheffields came to town and my kids were in heaven. We went to the San Diego county fair.
Cami was a little scared on the horses...
I took the bigger kids on this slide... holy cow it was FAST! and we got AIR!! I think cause we weighed so much together it made Clark and I go so much faster! I hope he wasn't too freaked out!
We rushed home and went to Kara's high school graduation! So crazy. This was me 11 years before!!
That night David, Rolene, and I went to a Switchfoot concert at the fair! It was AMAZING! The best one I've been to.
This was so much prettier than it looks here... a sea of lights
Photo bombed! It looks like Kara actually... weird!
Let's just all take a moment to remember the day I met Jon Foreman...
It was such a good trip. It started out a little rocky. Jace didn't realize we would be gone so long and he really missed his cousins and his dad. He was pretty grumpy the first week, but he got much better after that and we stayed a whole 3 weeks! We decided to come home on Father's day and surprise Scott. He was very surprised! It was fun to see his reaction. While we were gone Scott painted our kitchen cabinets! It looks so good! I've been wanting to do that for YEARS!! Anyways, I love going to California so much in the summer because it makes me not so homesick! I could live anywhere as long as I could come home 3 weeks in the summer and 1 week around Christmas! That is one month of the year, so technically I'm still a Cali girl. :)
My kitchen! We put more pulls on the cabinets besides just that one :) That is what they look like though! I also got that new oven and microwave!
