Happy Birthday Collin!

Happy Birthday to my youngest brother Collin! He is 14, I can't believe it. Collin is a funny kid. He's really smart, creative, and motivated. Some have said that he looks like me with short hair...is that a compliment or a burn? Here's a few things about my little bro.
  • He is a business man always trying to sell things avocados from our tree (for a killer price mind you), or his toys, even painted rocks!
  • A lady in a ward used to watch him sometimes and couldn't say Collin but rather Colleen
  • He loves Chuck Norris
  • He plays the trumpet in the honor band
  • He loves big mac's
  • He plays just about every sport at school
  • He loves my dad's old school music. One of his favorites is Franky Valley
  • He sings all the time
  • He's a snuggler. "Snuggle, snuggle, snuggle"

Collin is your typical 14 year old boy, talks big and challenges everyone. Although he usually ends up like this....

Happy Birthday Jr!

Sigh

What I've been up to:
not blogging.
Why?

PHONE CALLS!
Who am I calling...

car insurance companies
dr. offices
enterprise rental car
auto body shops
AAA
enterprise again because the rental smells like smoke
more insurance companies

Why you ask?

Because I was reared ended on the freeway last Friday. It seems as though I let of the "please rear end me vibe". Seriously now two times in a year and a half! I don't think our car will be a complete loss this time, however it does make the previous accident claim a little more hairy. Yes, the last accident still has not been settled and now we get to start to dance with a new insurance company. Lovely.

On a lighter note...
I thought I'd post John's winning bag from last years Christmas craft. It is a tradition in my family to do a craft on Christmas &/or Thanksgiving. Last year we decorated gift bags and in true Jex form it became a competition. My Dad, Debbie, and Katie (a family friend who stopped by on Christmas eve) were the judges. I don't know how but John won. Am I bitter-no, not at all! Why I should I be? Just because John threw as many decals on one bag as possible? Or because some of the other bags were worthy to be sold in a Target store? No I'm not bitter:) It's just I don't think his bag was the best one, sorry hun. They say they did not know who was the creator of each bag but I still think it was rigged. Everyone related/close to me has a crush on John, I think there was some bias involved. Plus they knew how we all would react to the results...writing outraged blog posts a year later etc. Despite my bitterness (smile) I really did enjoy the night and get a good laugh when I think about it.
some of the competition...

and the winning bag...

Notice the blue ribbon he curled for the handle. Looking at it now it's really not that bad.

Happy Birthday G-ma!

It's my grandma jex's birthday today( my dad's mom, she's the one on the left:). She will probably never see this because she does not own or like computers. She is an endearing woman. I'm grateful for her generosity and spunk. It's nice living close to her. She spoils us by folding/hanging up our laundry and having it in bags for us (our washer and dryer live with her since our place doesn't have hook ups). My love for desserts is a genetic trait inherited from her:) Love ya g-ma!
(Sorry for the picture Deandra. I only had pictures from the funeral and it was the best one!)

Weekend Update

Sigh of relief.

This has been one loooong weekend, enjoyable and productive but long.

  • 3 trips to Anaheim and back, yes I'm crazy!

  • Accompanied my mom and sang in my parents stake Christmas program.

  • Did laundry.

  • Errands.

  • Graded 19 essays (still have 5 left).

  • Decorated my house for Christmas (pictures to come).

  • Interpreted a fireside at the LA temple.

  • Visited and had lunch with some grandma and grandpa couples in our ward after church.

  • Did some scrap booking for my mom.

  • Braved the mall with Kerilynn to buy me some new make up (thanks for the lesson KL. check that one off my Christmas list).

  • Went out to dinner with Kerilynn, Cory, and his parents for KL's b-day!

  • Saw August Rush with KL and Cory-boring! it was slow and not worth the money.

  • Had a short mental breakdown Sat. night after I realised I forgot to pick up John's suit from the dry cleaners. ( I was exhausted and overwhelmed)

  • Finally talked with my in-laws yay!

  • Got my eyebrows threaded

  • Visited with family

Let this week begin:)

Happy Birthday Kerilynn

Happy 24 KL! It was yesterday but I wasn't at the computer so here it is a day late.

My sister Kerilynn is one of the most gifted people I know.

  • She has a beautiful voice and is amazing at the piano. She plays by ear! Anything and everything, really, you name and she'll play it.
  • She's very crafty
  • She bakes yummy things
  • Phenomenal hair stylist and make-up artist
  • She's a giver (generous to a fault almost)

Happy birthday toots! (you have more posts than anyone in our family-you're welcome)

Wants Not Needs

If I had one wish this holiday season it would be for all the children throughout the world to join hands and sing. If I had two wishes the holiday season I would want world peace and all the children in the world to join hands and sing. Now if I had three wishes, alright let's cut to the chase here's what I want for Christmas.

  1. New Scriptures (yes, I'm spiritual)
  2. Microwave
  3. BBQ
  4. Cute jewelry
  5. Clothes
  6. Black ballet flats
  7. New jeans (Gap's long and lean are my fav.)
  8. Can opener (the one that takes to whole lid of so it's not sharp
  9. Jelly roll pans
  10. A silver ring with a really thick band
  11. New sunglasses
  12. Curtains for the front room
  13. A gym membership
  14. Gift cards (Costco, Target, Old Navy, Gap, Burlington, AMC, Yummy restaurants or dessert shops)
  15. New make-up and a lesson from KL on how to apply it
  16. A vacation with John

No I don't expect all or even most of this, but I can dream:)

How Smart Is Your Right Foot?

This is so funny that it will boggle your mind. And, you will keeptrying it at least 50 more times to see if you can outsmart your foot. But you can't!!!

1. While sitting at your desk, lift your right foot off the floor andmake clockwise circles with it.

2. Now, while doing this, draw the number "6" in the air with your righthand ... Your foot will change direction!!!

I told you so ... And there is nothing you can do about it.

BRAVO

I just finish Memoirs of a Geisha. It was fabulous! Arthur Golden is an amazing writer. The book is filled with beautiful imagery. I highly recommend it. I also love the movie, although I must say I was disappointed that it was in English I thought it should have been subtitled but seeing that the actors were Chinese and it takes place in Japan...oh well. The movie is full of eye candy between the costumes, cinematography, and the actors it's mm mmm good.

People Like the Edges?

Really?
I am more of a middle middle girl.

Again?!

TAGGED, again!!

Here are the rules:
1. Link to the person that tagged you, and post the rules on your blog.(done)
2. Share 7 random and/or weird facts about yourself. (fine, sigh)
3. Tag 7 random people at the end of your post, and include links to their blogs.(not going to)
4. Let each person know that they’ve been tagged by leaving a comment on theirblog. (see #3)

FACTS....

  1. I am very particular about my sleeping arrangements. It needs to be dark and cool. I'm a hot sleeper I may be freezing and then a nano sec. after I hop into bed I'm burning up. I usually only sleep with my blankie. Also If my feet are hot I can't sleep, when I was little I would get a cold washcloth and put in on my feet if I couldn't sleep. Issues...I know.
  2. I have only said a swear word once in my life. I was 2 years old and at my family reunion. A few hours a week I would go to the babysitters ( a woman in our ward ). The neighborhood boys would come and wrap newspapers after school and apparently they had potty mouths. Being the impressionable, young, adorable girl I was I inadvertently acquired an undesirable linguistic form feature of theirs. So, we were at a family reunion my cousin was holding me when out of nowhere I dropped the F bomb! My parents were mortified and assured everyone that I did not learn it from them;).
  3. I didn't hit 100 lbs. till I was 16 or 17 I think. And when I did I thought it was a bad thing because I would hear other girls talking about being 100+. I didn't think I was fat at all-and I was 5'8" and 100 lbs-wowza!
  4. I still remember my elementary school/fight song.
  5. I am fascinated with Asian cinema. It all started when I interpreted a Chinese culture class a few years back and since then I've been hooked. I watch all the Chinese and Japanese films I can get my hands on. Recommendations: To Live, The Road Home, The Red Latern.
  6. When I get out of the shower I can not just wrap the towel around me. I can't stand the way the dry towel feels on a large area of wet skin. I have to first dry off my face, then my arms, my mid section & back, my legs, and then wrap my hair. It doesn't matter how cold I am or it is outside of the shower/pool whatever I can't just wrap the towel around me until I'm all dry. weird I know.
  7. I sometimes mis-spell my name when I'm typing. You try typing all those L's and E's and never add or drop one.

People I'm Tagging....

you heard me right

Beautiful Older Men

A week ago I walked past my co-workers desk where there was magazine with Tom Sellek on the front. As soon as I saw it I thought of Magnum, P.I. I've always thought he was dreamy seriously, ever since I was a little girl I had a crush on him, he's just so handsome. Let's not forget him in Three Men & A Baby and then the fabulous sequel Three Men & A Little Lady I'm not normally one to go for hairy guys but Tom pulls it off, as do my other older men crushes...

As far as beautiful older men go Sir Sean Connery takes the cake. He is 77 years old and still has it. The original James Bond has always been a heart throb of mine his rugged good looks and fabulous Scottish accent make him a chart topper for many.

Harrison Ford. I have to admit Harry can be a hit and miss in old age (65 years old). Sometimes he looks scruffy and tired. Truth be told I had a hard time finding a good recent picture of him but how can you turn your back on Indiana Jones now really!

Pierce Brosnan is the youngest of my older men crushes at 54 years old. Please don't jump to conclusions I don't think 54 is old it's just I can't lump him in with my young blood crushes and I don't want to make a middle age group...it's complicated. So here is my other James Bond he too is hairy and has an accent and is, you guessed it, beautiful.

Now for the most handsome man of all...
Don't worry honey, these guys got nothin' on you. really.

**disclaimer** He is aware of my affinity for these men, it's nothing serious I am just aware and appreciative of beauty Heavenly Father has put on this earth. Let it be known that I am happily married and so in love with my husband, John.

Happy Anniversary!

1. Where did you first meet your husband?
  • Family Home Evening in the BYU 123rd(?) ward. I was the FHE mom and his apt was in our group. I thought he was really tall and cute.

2. What was the first thing you said to your husband?

  • Directly or indirectly? Directly it was probably something like, " And You?" we were going around the room and everyone would tell something good about their day or week. Indirectly, "Welcome to FHE" I know real romantic eh?

3. Where was your first date?

  • Again official or unofficial? Do you mean when he asked me out or I ask him OR when a third party asked John out in my behalf? Yes, we had a complicated beginning.

  • First date was to the homecoming fiasco...I mean spectacular(it's a show in the Marriott center with singing, dancing, tributes etc). We went with my roommates and their fiances/boyfriends. John and I were the only non-couple there. Josh, my roommates fiance went to his apt. and set up the date (I had no knowledge of this-honestly) Their conversation went something like this...

Josh: Hey are you John?

John: Yes

Josh: What are you doing next weekend?

John: What?

Josh: You know LeeElle?

John: Yeah

Josh: Want to go out with her next weekend to the homecoming
spectacular?

John: Does she know you are doing this?

Josh: No, not yet.

John: I'll go but let me ask her out OK?

Josh: Great! bye!

...a few minutes later Josh ran into my apt. and let me know that he had asked John out for me. I was so embarrassed. Yes I wanted to go out with him but that is not how I pictured it happening. I felt like a charity case. Nevertheless it was a fun night.

4. Where was your first kiss?

  • In the snow (awww) after we went to an acapella concert.

5. Did you have a long or short engagement/courtship?

  • It depends on your definition of long/short. We were friends who "hung out" with each other for about a year. We officially dated 6 months and were engaged for 3 months.

6. Where did you get engaged?

  • On a mountain overlooking Utah Valley at sunset. I was caught off guard and completely surprised. ( I'll save that story for another post...maybe my anniversary next year).

7. Where were you married?

  • We were married in the Los Angeles L.D.S. Temple.

8. Where did you go on your honeymoon?

  • We went to Park City, Utah for a week. We stayed in a Marriott (Janae hooked us up with a sweet discount) we just relaxed and hung out with each other. We brought our snowboards in hopes of hitting the slopes but there was no snow, of course our last night there it snowed. John took took me to a play in SLC (even though he was sooo sick), we swam, went to the movies, slept, ate, and just had a fun time together.

9. Where was your first place together?

  • Spanish Fork, UT. It was a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom, furnished apt. with washer and dryer hookups for only $400/month!! It was a steal. The owners rented it out to married students at the Y. They said they remember what it was like to be starting out so they wanted to help out.

10. How long have you been married?

  • Three years today. Good times!

I Can't Think of a Title

Last night I drove in traffic for two hours down to Anaheim to hear Collin play in the honor band and it was well worth it. He played wonderfully. I actually got a little choked up-surprise, surprise! It was also fun because I was able to see one of my teachers from Jr. High and High school.

After Collin's performance my mom and I went to the Marriott restaurant to visit Janae. Cory and Kerilynn met up with us there where Janae hooked all of us up with a free meal. The food was really good I would recommend the sweet garlic chicken and the desserts-Delicious! We split the berries and creme (it has a fancier name but I cant' remember it), the little devil (a fudgy brownie with ice cream-yum), chocolate/banana bread pudding, and my favorite creme brule. We met all of the staff of the restaurant the chef even came out to tell us how much they like Janae. It was a really fun night with my family. Sadly John was not able to come...law school(said while rolling my eye in a dramatic/sarcastic way). I sound like a single lady gallivanting around with out my husband. Whatever:)

And now your parting gift....

Good luck this weekend in Grease Cory! (see Kerilynn's blog for more!)

Happy Birthday Weston

Weston and our cousin Garrett
It was my brother Weston's birthday on Sunday. I can't believe he is 18! On Saturday I went down to Anaheim to go to his quarterfinal CIF water polo game. This is the farthest the boys team has ever gone, unfortunately their CIF run ended there however Weston did score 5 of Loara's 7 goals (takes after his big sister/s:)! Two of the goals were made at half tank-he's really got an arm.
We celebrated on Sunday with a yummy dinner and mini lava cakes. Wes is a good guy. He's a work horse around the house, not by choice, but he does a good job helping out. He is kind and is tendered hearted (once again taking after his big sister) He just recently completed his eagle project where he put together a couple hundred hygiene kits for the church humanitarian effort, I'm very proud of him. He has grown up to be a very handsome boy! Happy b-day weston!

My Own Stacy London

Shout out to my beautiful sister Janae. She is one of the kindest people I know. Here's a great story:
When I was in high school I was at a football game sitting in the stands and Janae walked by. A friend of mine got my attention and asked if she was my sister. I confirmed the relation to which they responded, "She looks just like you but pretty."
I do not share this for sympathy or a self esteem boost but because it is funny! Janae is great! She wants the best for everyone. Growing up Janae didn't fight like the rest of us did, she has always been a peacemaker. She has great style and is generous. I get more compliments on the outfits she's given me than the ones I buy! Thankfully I am the recipient of her closet cleaning binges. We've spent more time with her lately and I'm realising (again) how glad I am to be living close to her ( and the rest of my family:) Love ya Janae!
***Please ignore the gangster/weird look on my face in the picture***

Alright Kevin

This is Kevin (and John). Kevin and I met back in ought 3 in the Roman Gardens Apts. He was one of John's roommates. They met in the MTC while serving missions in Brazil. They are BFF's. I consider him to be one of my BFF's too.

Kevin is one of my favorite people for many reasons. Things you may not know about Kevin

  • he has wonderful taste in friends
  • he has a wonderful wife (Sarah, I'm working on a post for you but we all know that kevin needs his very own post to be satisfied)
  • he's got some crazy guitar skills
  • he can see Creep by Radio Head, even the part where it goes really high.
  • he is the king of double standards (said affectionately)
  • he can throw a mean tantrum ( a close second to my storming out)
  • he was supposed to sing a solo for the Easter program in our singles ward and was soo nervous he made himself sick. So that morning I get a call from him apologizing for bailing out on me and offering to show me his vomit spattered shirt and proof. pfft.
  • he really is color blind
  • he is well read
  • he is a very good friend to John (and me)
  • he is a good listener, he'll make a great therapist
  • he was voted Mr. Distribution Center
  • he is the best embosser this side of the Mississippi
  • my whole family has a crush on him
  • he is very creative
  • he's funny...here are some recent blog comments kevin has made that make me laugh

In response to "Only if All the Others Are Full"

Tall...more like Freakishly tall! And by the way, until they put a handicap sign on those stalls, I refuse to see them as anything but the deluxe bathroom suites that my fine behind deserves. Wheelchair bound, take a number.

In response to "Who Back Wisconsin Now"

I am sooooo sad (Sarcasm intended). This reminds me of a funny anecdote. On a recent episode of the hills, star, Lauren Conrad, in denial of her feelings for friend, Brody Jenner, went on a date with a model named GAVIN. After one date, Lauren dumped GAVIN because he was incredibly boring and not as good as Brody. I will let you work out the implications of this little allegory yourself, but let's put it this way, as long as there is a KEVIN and a John, the music will never die.

See what I mean? He's funny. I will end with my haiku titled "Kevin"

Only If All The Others Are Full!

Story...

John walked into the bathroom a few weeks ago, seeing that all the stalls were available he chose to use the largest one aka the handicap stall. He took his time putting his things down and taking care of business and packing back up. When he walked out he saw a young man in a wheelchair waiting for the stall. He felt sooo bad!-serves him right! Moral of the story...don't use the handicap stall unless it's the only one available and if you do use it, be quick about it.

Random

I finally took my pictures off my memory card and transferred them to CD's so I can use them now!!!

This picture was taken a while ago when John and I went to the Grove. These are two Abercrombie & Fitch employees. What is there job you ask? To look pretty in their matching outfits and open the door for you. (I think the one on the left saw me whip out my camera and posed for the photo)

I've heard of China Town, Korea Town, Little Italy...but Little Ethiopia? That's LA.

I'm Cultured

A few weeks ago we went out with some friends for Korean food. As many of you know I am somewhat of a picky eater and thus was a little worried about the upcoming feast. John on the other hand grew up eating Korean food. I don't know many non-Koreans who appreciate kimchi but John does. We drove up to Santa Monica or LA...sometimes I forget where one city ends and the next one begins! Where ever it was we drove there and pulled up to this fine establishment. Asian YA!

Here's the group:
front to back/left to right
Serene and then her husband/our resident Korean Kevin
Amy Jo & John
Gavin & me

This little guy was in our tofu soup! Eyeballs and all! Speaking of the tofu soup what wasn't in there. It had tofu (of course) and the some sort of shell fish, meat, shrimp etc. you name it! It wasn't half bad!

Here is me getting ready to enjoy my friend!

Yeah right! It was all staged. I'm willing to try things but when their eyes are still attached-no thank you. Besides I've tried shrimp before and wasn't a fan.

Here is the tofu soup. We also ordered different meats. John got a large order of the ribs, our friends tried to tell him how big the servings were but he went ahead and got it anyways, and yes he ate the whole thing. Told ya he loves Korean food. They also brought out a ton of ramekins with different um...stuff in them. I tried almost all of them. I'm a big fan of the spicy cucumbers and I can't remember what the rest of them are called but they were pretty good.
Overall I enjoyed the food. It's not something I will crave but I would eat it again. It was just nice going out on a date with friends.

No Cake For You

Fellow blogger Denae asked if you could change one thing about your wedding what would it be? I thought I would share my response with you.

Overall my wedding was great. It was crazy but who's isn't? A family friend who is a prof. chef offered to make my cake. As the date got closer she realized that she would be evaluated the same week as my wedding. Knowing that it would be too much for one week she had us go the bakery she used to work at and order a cake. Because we also had cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory we didn't order a huge cake. The day came and my friend went to pick up the cake to set it up at the reception and decorate it but when she got to the bakery it was locked. The owner had gone home to take an afternoon nap but didn't wake up to her alarm. So we didn't have a cake. The owner called that night after the reception and apologized profusely. Honestly I wasn't really phased by it. My mom told me about it and I said, "oh, well" It would have taken a lot more than an MIA cake to spoil my day. The bakery did deliver the cake to my mom's house the next day where my sister (who people say looks like me) and her boyfriend (who is really tall) took a picture cutting the cake with the hope to one day photo shop our faces in:)

Here's what my cake might have looked like...

Who Will Back Wisconsin Now?

John's band has there last performance tomorrow night, their drummer is moving to Seattle.
I'm happy because this means a little more time with John however I'm bummed for him. He really likes playing shows and writing music...not that the music writing has to stop.
I know it's late but all are welcome to come.

Remeber Me When You're Famous!

Last Thursday John and I went to see my friend Danny in a play. It's called Neither Have I Wings To Fly. It was phenomenal! I laughed and cried...actually bawled. It was amazing. Danny did a magnificent job as well as the other cast members, not a weak link I tell ya. It's set in Ireland in the 50's, so they talk with accents-fun! It's about love, loss, heart break, relationships, self discovery, taking chances... The play write is also in it. She wrote this play when she was about 23! I'm smiling just thinking about it.
Here is Danny...don't forget me when you're a big star!

If you live in the greater LA area I strongly suggest you go see it! You can get more information by visiting http://www.roadtheatre.org/

Good Job Danny! & THANK YOU so much for the tickets.

L's & E's

I joined facebook a few months ago so Kirk could have two pages of friends. I wasn't planning on doing anything with the account but recently some old friends have found me on it. Apparently it was difficult to search me out because they couldn't remember my married name. So having decided that facebook was OK I was going put a little more effort into my account. I wanted to add my maiden name so today I went into my account to change my name. They say it could take some time because they want to verify that it is a legitimate name. I click on "my account" then "change name" I then type LeeElle Jex Tullis and it gives me this error message...

TOO MANY REPETITIVE LETTERS

whatever.

Suzie Homemaker

I went to Joanne's on Friday to buy some fabric for a fall craft I will be teaching the Young Women to make. After looking at their limited selection of overpriced fall fabrics I decided to try Wal*Mart. So on Sat I went down to my parents to go to Wal*Mart and guess what? They no longer sell fabric! After making a few phone calls my mom and I headed over to M & L Fabric. It's a huge fabric store with great prices. We got there at 5:45 and they were closing at 6:00 so we feverishly rushed through the $1 pile and made our way to the $1.98 pile. We grabbed as much as we could and then at 5:55 they turned the lights off in the room we were in. We tried to look by the light of my mom's blackberry which did not work so we made our way to the front. There was a lady there saying sorry we don't cut after 6. To which we responded, "Ok, it's not 6:00." After a salty glare and eye roll from the worker she cut our fabric and rang us up. When they say the close at 6:00 they mean it. I was happy with my purchases considering I only had 10 min.!

Sorry for the bad lighting....

My loot! All this for $38!

Here are some of the personality filled fabrics:

You can't tell but this fabric is brown with gold glitter flecks! Who doesn't love a little sparkle?

This is an awesome fall paisley

Funky!

Jazzy!

I know, I know turquoise for fall? It's a modern take on autumn. Plus I think the Young women will like them.

Love this one!

I also purchased some traditional fall fabrics. Stay tuned for the finished product.
