Shower cake and Baby cupcakes
Shower cake and Baby cupcakes - This was a replica of a Pink Cake Box cake. I love their stuff! But, as most of you know, I hate to do a cake exactly the same. I like to feel like an artist, not Kinkos. :) So I had to change it a bit. :) The top is french vanilla with fudge filling and the bottom is chocolate fudge cake with matching chocolate fudge cupcakes.

Utah's Grand Wedding Cake Competition Entry - Italian Opera House Cake
Utah's Grand Wedding Cake Competition Entry - Italian Opera House Cake
The theme this year was Italian Romance. I had really debated whether or not to enter this year. Then I came up with two different ideas that I thought would be so much fun to do. I only had 3 days to get it all put together, but I am really so glad that I did it. I would have loved to have time to make roses to fill the space where the pillars are, and to make more table decor, but I was happy to at least be able to present a finished cake. I was not expecting to place at all, this being my first year entering and competing against so many amazingly talented and trained cake artists, but I got an Honorable Mention! I also got the Judges award for Best Use of Theme and the Utah's Choice award for Impeccable Skill. I was so giddy! I was humbled by the amount of talent there and met so many wonderful people who I hope to get to know better in the near future. My heart felt thanks goes out to my brilliant sister-in-law who talked me into doing this and made it possible for me to participate. Love you Jeanene!!

Pink Funky Flowers cake
Pink Funky Flowers cake - As I said before, I generally don't post cakes that I have already done before. But this one turned out so much different than the original I had to post it. I wasn't sure I would love it in pinks and greens, but it was for a 1 year old, so this made it younger and more fun. Top was strawberry, bottom was vanilla chocolate twist.

40th Anniversary Swan Cake
40th Anniversary Swan Cake - I was really happy with this one. I love mixing fondant and buttercream this way. It is tough to put fondant accents on buttercream because the are so heavy. But I think when it is the other way around and you put buttercream accents on a fondant base, the result is beautiful. The roses and swans are fondant, but all the swags and borders are buttercream, yet you still have the smooth elegance of the fondant. This was made to resemble an original wedding cake, but we made it smaller to fit this occasion.

Stimpson Monogram Wedding Cake
Elmo cake
Elmo cake - I normally don't do sheet cake type cakes because they bore me to tears. *grin* So if I have done one for you, I must love you. But this one was kind of fun. I actually built his face on top of the sheet cake so that he looked a little more 3D. Not to mention sometimes it is good for me to work in buttercream so that I remember my basics. It also makes me remember why I despise working with buttercream alone, but it is still good for me. :)

50th birthday cake
50th birthday cake - I wasn't going to post this one because it was such a stress cake for me, but I decided it at least shows how I am under pressure. *grin* This cake was perfect the first time and I was so happy about it. Then someone in front of me stopped amazing fast for this little cat and the cake....well....at least the cat lived. I was a puddle of tears, but pulled myself together and headed back home. I had an hour until the party. The top layer was not salvagable, but the bottom two were not badly damaged. So I threw some rice cereal treats in a pan and recreated the top layer. Luckily, other than a few broken arms, noses and ears...the figures stood up really well. The man on top is a little shorter than he was, but all in all, a good save. It is still not as pretty as it was (unfortunately I didn't get a picture before I left), but for a cake that grew wings, not so bad either. :) Luckily, it was for a dear friend of mine and she was a sweetheart about the whole thing.
