I'm trying to redo my front room and I have pictures in frames I don't want to use anymore, so I thought I'd try to recycle some. This is a mat from one that is plain white. I decided to recover it with some scrapbook paper.
Here it is finished except trimming off the edges. I painted the inside too. I'll post more pictures after I finish putting the wall together. I think it's going to look fabulous!

Soccer Season!
Went to Karsen's soccer came this morning. He did a great job. He's number 10 on the red team. The girls play too, but their game was last night and we couldn't go. Maybe next week!
Going after the ball - Go Karsen!
Kensi wanted to take a picture of me after I took her picture.
Steve relaxing while watching! Great foot rests!
Go Karsen! Get that ball!
Wow! Almost looks like he's going to get pushed over, but he didn't!
Good kick!
Two guys ran into each other but they were okay! Jumped right back up to go after the ball!
Kensi running! That's what she does best! Barely caught Maeley too down in the corner. They were having a great time!
Chloe having fun on Steve's knees!
Yep! That's our boy! Great kick Karsen!

More skirt outfits
I bought a package of 5 onesies and decided I should just make another set of skirt outfits for the twins! I did a basic two tiered skirt following the directions found here But didn't do the bottom tier. I added a little tulle underneath, then found a fabric flower I liked here The only thing I did different was made it smaller, put them together different cuz I didn't like the way she put it together one on top of the other. This is how I started it after cutting the pointed ends off.
I sewed the first two pieces together end to end
Then I sewed the next two pieces together end to end, sewing through all the pieces as I went. Then added the stuffed little round in the center but didn't add the one on back since I was going to sew it to the shirt and didn't need the added layer.
This is the finished product. Can't wait to see how they look on them!

The past few days
We celebrated Levi's birthday. Here he is enjoying his cupcake!
It's always nice to have help opening presents!
Cool cars that can be revved up and shoot across the floor!
Love Chloe's face!
I had all of Kadee's kids for the week-end and decided to let the girls sleep in the same bed. It seemed to work. Chloe and Kensi like body contact so it worked out great! Maeley was glad cuz she didn't have to have Kensi sleeping on her! We had fun together. What was even funnier was the first couple hours of being here they kept calling me mom. When they got home Kadee told me the first couple hours they kept calling her grandma! Love it!

Skirt with 3 ruffles
Let's get some basics out of the way. I sew the old-fashioned way - no serger.
I got the idea for this skirt here and the idea for the flower here
Because she didn't have a pattern on her web site, I think she wants you to buy it, I came up with my own design after looking through all the pictures she had.
I bought 1 yard each of three different fabrics and got 2 skirts, 2 flowers and 2 hearts out of it.
I made these for my 1 year old granddaughters.
I started with their hip measurement and the waist to knee measurement.
To keep things simple I will only tell you how I did one skirt.
Their hip is about 16" with the diaper on. I added 4" to that making it roughly 20" and then doubled it to make a 40" skirt. I wanted to make sure there was room to walk and crawl and run - freedom of movement is very important!
Their waist to knee measurement was 9". I added 2" for the hem and waist, making it 11".
I used 1/2" elastic.
Decide which fabric is the base skirt and which are the ruffles. The base skirt is what the ruffles are sewn on to.
Measure and cut your fabric, folded with selvages together, 20 1/2" x 11" for one skirt. (You should have 2 pieces)
Next I decided to make the ruffles 3 1/2" wide. I also decided to make them at least double the skirt length, so at least 80 inches long. But since fabric is usually 42-45 inches wide, I decided to use the whole length. I usually tear my fabric if I need long pieces like that, it's quicker and easier then measuring and marking and cutting.
So for one skirt I made 6 strips, 2 for each ruffle.
Now that it's all cut out, it's time to sew.
I sewed a 1/4" seam for each piece. Sew the two 11" edges of the skirt together. Sew 2 strips of the same fabric together on each end, making 3 pieces for the ruffles.
Next sew a hem on all four pieces. I made mine as small as I could.
Sew a gathering stitch on the ruffle pieces 1/4" from the edge opposite the hem.
Next I figured out how far I wanted my ruffles to be from each other.
I decided to make a line on my base skirt where I wanted each ruffle to be placed and sewn. I wanted the first ruffle hem to be just about the same as the base skirt hem. The next two ruffles were placed about an inch over the one below. Because of the way I decided to sew them on I made the mark 5/8" below the top of each ruffle. Hope that makes sense with the picture. I measured and marked the base skirt at 2 3/8", 4 3/8" and 6 3/8"
I didn't want a raw edge on my ruffles. So I pinned the ruffle right sides together, the edge of the ruffle toward the hemmed edge of the base skirt using the line as my guide and edge. When I was done sewing it on, I picked out the gathering stitch that was showing, then ironed the ruffle down and then sewed it down very carefully, close to the edge. Be careful not to pull too much on the base skirt or you'll end up with puckering on the backside. (Sorry don't have picture of that)
Repeat with each row of ruffle. When you are ironing down the last ruffle, iron the elastic casing at the waist at the same time. I turned it down 1" and when I sewed it, I turned the edge under a quarter inch as I went. Make sure you leave a 3/4" opening to put in your elastic.
I used a product called "Lite Steam-A-Seam 2 to applique the hearts in place. It's a double stick Lite fusible web that worked great. I've never used it before and loved it. Then I used a close zigzag stitch along the edges of the heart.
The flowers were easy and fun to make. I used a canning jar lid as my circle. She used a larger lid, but I didn't want my flowers that large. I used 10 pedals for the base and 8 for the top. It's a little tricky to sew them together and I used a anti fray liquid on the edges where the button goes just to be safe. Then I glued a piece of felt on the back. I decided not to sew them on to the onesie, but opted to put a pin on it so she can pin it anywhere she wants or use it for a hair bow.
Hope that wasn't too hard to understand. I'm sorry there weren't more pictures, I always look at the pictures on a pattern so I understand what they're saying! Maybe I'll make another one and take more pictures and edit this one! That's the main reason why I'm even posting! For future reference on how I did it. I should try making a larger size for another granddaughter and see how it turns out!
