Trek Fireside
My little granddaughter Elise sang this song with her new friend from the trek, Abby. They did a splendid job! And are so cute too! Her Uncle Jesse played the guitar, the Roberts sisters were on violin and Sis. Gardner played cello. There was a beautiful spirit while they sang. So sweet and tender! The song is called "Somewhere There's a Mountain" and is from the cd "Trek" by the Nashville Tribute Band. Makes me cry every time!

Pioneer Trek
Here are our pictures of the trek. My pictures are first, then Stanley's pictures. Sorry I didn't put them in order. It was a difficult/different trek for us. Mainly cuz we're older and we try and do things thinking we're younger and get jolted back quickly while trying! Stanley hiked every mile with the kids, going back and forth, talking and observing and getting several blisters. He wanted me to hike it with him, but I knew I wouldn't make it, but I did agree to be an angel and help with the woman's pull. All the men and boys are taken out of camp the first night and they have a mormon battalion experience separate from the girls. The girls are left to do everything themselves the next morning, including packing the handcart, and going up a steep grade down the road. Some of us dress up in white clothes and acting as angels, help the women and girls push and pull their carts up the road. When I started, I really thought I was 21 again, but I was quickly jolted back to reality and this 53 year old body only made it half way up the hill before having to stop to catch my breath. It was harder than I thought and I am amazed at the strength our girls have! They were awesome and I'll never do that again! On another note, I experienced a miracle! It was very windy up there, especially the first and last day. After they all made it back to base camp, they had a big lunch prepared for everyone. I was standing in line and a gust of wind blew my hat off and it landed in Sis. Merrills plate! Luckily no food got on it, it landed in the right spot! Anyway, I sit down to eat and I'm looking around and suddenly realize I can't see very far. Where's my glasses? The hat must have knocked off my glasses and I didn't even feel it or know they were missing until about 10 minutes later. We start looking around the food tables and nothing! So I'm thinking and wondering if they got knocked off earlier or if I even had them on all day. You know how your brain works! I went into the trailer and prayed and asked Heavenly Father for help, actually I needed a miracle! It was like finding a needle in a haystack! I went back out and started thinking of all the places I'd been and went to look and still nothing. On the way back up to the food area, JT came up and said Sis. Roberts found a pair of glasses on the table, are these yours. And sure enough they were! But they were missing a lens! Oh dear! How am I going to find a lens? They had started taking down the tables, the place has been trampled, there's no way I'm going to find a lens! But I started looking anyway. The Lloyds also started looking (Stanley had asked them to help) and after 5-10 minutes of kicking around in the dirt, Sis. Lloyd says, "I found it!" She happened to be in the right spot at the right time and the sun hit the lens at the right angle and she found it!!!!! I had just been in that spot and didn't see it! I was so happy I gave her a big hug!!!!! It really was a miracle! We found our needle in a haystack! I'm glad to trek is over. It was fun, it was hard. There are amazing, talented, hard-working people in our stake! They made it happen! It was amazing to sit back and watch! I love this quote Stanley told me from someone on the trail. "Heavenly Father does not forsake us, He just tests us". (Or something like that) I know that for a fact!
