Canned Butter!

I did it! I canned butter! This is some of it. Isn't it pretty! ?! These are pint jars, they hold one pound of butter each. I plan on doing smaller jars that will hold half a pound. Some things I learned from this process. It is very easy. The butter stays in a liquid form. The butter will also seperate, but all you have to do is gently shake it. I put it in the fridge and it became solid, but when I took it out, it returned to it's liquid form. So, if I were to open a jar, I would put it in the fridge. I'm not sure what would happen if I used it in its liquid form to bake something like cookies. I'll have to try it - I'd probably put it in the fridge for just a little while to harden it just a bit before using it in baking. I'll let you know later how that works out when I try it. I love cooking with butter, it's all our family uses, so I'm excited to have some for emergencies!

Just a couple of notes

Last night, we went and finally saw the movie, "Fireproof". If you have not seen this movie, you should! It's very good - 3-4 hankies! It is a Christian based movie and done very well. Not as good as our church does, but good just the same.

Check out: http://preparetodaynewsletter.blogspot.com/2008/11/keeping-warm-in-winter-weather.html

It has good advice for staying warm during a winter emergency. You should all read it and prepare. I've heard rumors that this will be a very cold winter! Prepare! It's better to be prepared and have nothing happen than not prepared and have an emergency and suffering the consequences!

Fry's has butter on sale right now and I'm going to can it! If you want to know how, go to:
http://frugalabundance.com/homecannedbutter.htm for how to's.

We had a girls lunch and discussed our 3 month food supply. This would be perfect for it! There's lots of good sales going on this holiday season, so plan ahead, buy a little more and be prepared!

Thanks Grandma for the Halloween Treats!!

Thank you Grandma Lawlor for the yummy Halloween treat.
I gave these to the boys the morning of Halloween.
Caption under each picture

Anxiously waiting for our Halloween surprise

Gavin enjoying his
Merik enjoying his
Sitting together and eating them up. Merik finished his and Gavin managed to eat the head off of tigger, and then I took it away, 'cause Merik was ready for the other treat. Gavin takes to long to eat anything and his was bigger anyways
The last surprise was a Mario candy dispenser, that shoots the candy out. The boys loved these, especially because the car comes of so you can play with it.

Old Family Pictures

These are called "Memory Puzzle Blocks"

(Dwain and Grandpa Porter)
When we went to Utah for Gen. Conf. I ran into the woman who came up with this idea, showing it at a table in front of the Church History Museum gift shop. It's so cool! I bought one of her kits and came home and did it. I scanned some old pictures from my Grandma Porters books, went to the web page (http://www.storiesbyme.com/) where they have the template to load your 6 pictures and adjust them to fit the way you want, add words and then print. It's really easy and fun to do! The kits are $20 and include everything you need. (Once you've done one, you could buy the blocks somewhere cheaper and do it yourself) If you've ever done anything with ModPodge this is another exciting idea! You can also do other things with old pictures, like the wood picture frames, or whatever. It's just a neat idea to get you and your kids interested in family history! You don't have to use old pictures either, you could do one with pictures of your babies, or family, etc. Check out her web site for other neat ideas. She also has updates on how to make it better. I'm making something for Christmas using this idea of old pictures. I'll post it later when it's finished! Hope it turns out good!
