surprise party for mom

so I've seen and made a lot of things from pinterest. and when it got closer to my mom's birthday, I knew I wanted to make some of the things I've seen for her on pinterest. {final picture below}

it was a lot of fun. I wanted to make tissue paper pom poms to hang from the ceiling, but the party was in the middle of my work week. my dad brought my mom over after church on sunday, and she was completely surprised. actually, my dad told my mom that they had to get over to my house and wouldn't tell her why. she thought my cat had died. it wasn't very nice of my dad to scare her like that, but she was very pleased to realize it was just an excuse to get her to my house. so needless to say, she was very surprised, and really enjoyed the evening.

I have made this treat a few treat a few times now. actually the first time was almost exactly a year ago for a friends birthday. then I made it for my class reunion mini party, and my moms birthday. and maybe one other time. but I haven't made one for quite a few months.

I saw the idea from last july's martha stewart living magazine. this is what it's supposed to look like {mine have never looked this beautiful}
