Welcome Heather!

I would love to introduce you to my sister, Heather! She is joining us in our trek to meditate and hide God's Word in our hearts! Let's warmly welcome her!
Bill (in the back), Will & Heather Swan

I have had the privilege of knowing Heather for the last 37 years and adore her and asked her to give you a glimpse into her life:

God has richly blessed my life with my husband, Bill, our four-year-old son, Will, my sister, Yvonne and her family, as well as the rest of our family. When we are participating in a "family" memory time, such as during the summer, I stay on track and I am challenged by what Will memorizes. The rest of the time, I have a difficult time memorizing on a regular basis, so I am looking forward to accountability of this group as well as the "marinating" in the Word while I memorize. Thank you in advance for your encouragement!

Feel free to ask her more questions in the comment section.

Verse #24-Wow! Last Verse of 2011

Good Morning Dear Sisters in Christ!

Welcome to those of you who are just joining our Team and to those of you who have been laboring to hide God's Word in your heart all year long, a big woohoo! I am so proud of you! Great job!

1. What is your last verse you are going to meditate and memorize in 2011?

2. Why did you choose it?

3. How has God strengthened, encouraged, and challenged you this year by being in the Word? OR if you are just joining us, how do you anticipate the Lord using His Word constantly being renewed in your mind to transform you?

4. The column on the right hand side of this post is your partner for the next two week. Take time to email or text her your verse. How fun it would be to connect face to face, if you are in the same city...enjoy some coffee together, or a walk!

5. What name of Jesus do you love or sticks out to you in this season? (Examples- King of Kings, Bright Morning Star, the Door, The Giver of Living Water, Emmanuel, The Bread of Life, Savior, the Lamb, Lion of Judah...)

Our Redeemer Lives and we will see Him one day! Let's long and look for His return!

You are sooooo loved!

Scripture Memory Verse #23 of 2011!

Good Morning Pilgrimagers!

What a perfect day to have the Word be before us! Whether we are feeling happy, sad, content, in the midst of a huge storm, having a relaxing day by the fire...o how we need Jesus Christ to fill and renew our minds.

Here we go:

1. What is your verse?

2. We are trying something new for a season (at the Fresno Celebration Vivian had a great idea to help with actually following through to memorize, some natural accountability and encouragement). We are going to text our verse to another lady on the Team! Let's do this at least once during the two weeks we are learning it. I think I will do it when I choose my verse and then from memory when I actually have it in my heart. So, who are you going to text (or email, if texting isn't your thing) your verse to?

3. What are you passionate about? (Becca, check out the post below! She's our newest on the Team and asked us this great question.)

I am grateful for each of you and spurred on by you...to love Jesus more intimately and pursue Him with my whole life.

Welcome Becca!

We are thrilled to introduce our newest member to the Team!

Rebecca (Becca) MacAlpine!
Becca & Luke

Hi scripture memorization team! I am so thrilled to join and am already so blessed by this group! My name is Becca MacAlpine and I currently live in Fresno, CA but grew up in Canada (we moved to the states in 1999 and on an exciting note I am working on becoming an American citizen, woo!). I have known the Lord since 2000 and and I have been married for about a year and a half to the man of my dreams, Luke MacAlpine. My relationship with the Lord began in 2000 but it became much more intimate and deep in 2004 when the Lord used Luke (then boyfriend) in my life for a few short months in 2004. We dated for short time between 2004 and 2005 then our relationship ended only for us to get back together four years later but that's a story for another time! During those few short months the Lord taught me about His redeeming love, being a new creation in Him and that my identity is solely in the finished work of Christ. Those truths have only continued to deepen and flourish throughout college as I attended Biola University and these early years of marriage and my career as a math teacher.

As I have struggled with chronic pain for the last two years, the Lord has taught me so much about his character and love for both Luke and I. The Lord is my Strength, Joy, Healer, Redeemer, Provider and so much more. On average I am full of energy (on average since being in pain is becoming less and less often). I love to be with people and I always prefer to do things together rather than alone. Second to being passionate about the Lord, I am extremely passionate about being a wife and marriage. I love being married and I am so thankful that the Lord knew exactly what I needed in providing Luke as a husband for me.

Throughout these last few years of chronic pain, the Lord has been so faithful in using Luke to remind me of how good God is and His truth throughout this season. I have long desired memorizing Scripture more but have never had a group of other women committed to the same goal. As I mentioned before, I thrive when I get to do things alongside other people and I so look forward to being amongst such wonderful women committed to hiding the Word in their hearts. I am thrilled because I know that memorizing more Scripture will be so beneficial as we continue to seek out and pray for a solution to my chronic migraines (with the pain it is often hard to read longer passages of scripture since my eyes get so sensitive). Thank you for allowing me to join into this group! I look forward to and eagerly anticipate getting to know each one of you more through this blog and the times that we get to share together. Happy Thanksgiving! (if you read this before Thanksgiving) and Merry Christmas! (if you read this after Thanksgiving)

With so much love to all of you I have and haven't met,
Becca MacAlpine

Becca's Question for you all to answer in the comment section:

What are you passionate about?

Scripture Memory Team-Fresno Celebration!

From Left to right, back to front: Tami, Mandy, Yvonne, Amy
Vivian, Melissa, Amber

What a wonderful Saturday afternoon in November! I just returned from time with some of you all and feel overflowing with love for you and for Jesus Christ.

We missed those of you who couldn't join us and long for the day we can all be together.

We ate yummy food and enjoyed hot drinks...some of us had Hot Chocolate Cake (my mouth is still watering), Creme' Brulee, lattes, lunch...hmm hmm good!

My favorite part was hearing each of your stories and your highs & lows of the year and what verse the Lord has used to shape, encourage, and sustain you this year.

We have some new ideas for this upcoming year as we continue to hide God's Word in our hearts...more info to come!

Let's chime in, for those who got to come, what would you want the other ladies to know on our team? Let's encourage one another...

Welcome Katy!

We have a new lady who to cheer onto our team! Katy we are thrilled we get to hide God's Word in our heart with you!

I asked Katy to share a bit about herself and her desire to memorize the Word:

Thank you for having me! Its been on my heart for a while now how important it is to memorize scripture to guard our hearts. I didn't know where to get started, and I really just needed the accountability. When Mandy told me what she was doing I thought it was too good to be true! I am so excited for this opportunity!

My sweet husband and I have been married for nine months now. On December 17th we are making the trek up North to Manteca to set our roots down. I'm not sure what I will do career wise there, but I really just have a heart for hospitality: I love cooking, baking, and caring for others. As a young girl I was very lost and vulnerable; I hope to one day be able to speak truth and love into girl's lives. Off the bat I am kind of shy, but I love getting to know people one on one. I think it is extremly important to equip ourselves with scripture to live in this world where spiritual battles are happening all around us. In referenece to memorizing scripture... a friend once told me that Jesus was tempted for 40 days and what helped get him through was the scripture that he recited back to satan. I want to be able to evangelize and love on nonbelievers and I need to store scripture in my mind to be able to do that.

Thanks!!

Love, Katy

Scripture Memory Verse #21

Good Morning Pilgrimagers!

How precious you are to me!

Today we celebrate Melissa's birthday. Happy Birthday to you!

1. What is your 21st verse?

2. Do you believe down to the depths of your soul that you are so loved by Jesus Christ, not based for a moment on your good or bad performance? What aspects of God's love do you struggle with believing, if any?

3. Are you able to come to our November 19th celebration in Fresno, CA?

4. Share the verse you picked this time with one other person and then report back in the comment section how the conversation went. Did you enjoy sharing it with someone else, was it scary, were you encouraged, challenged, etc.?

Let's do this! Let's wield our swords and proclaim His Word!

Christina's Question

Remember when we asked each other questions? It has been awhile, hasn't it! Shall we get back at it?

Christina's Question: What are a few of your favorite things?
Christina's Answer: Cherry Blossoms, warm chocolate chip cookies, sunrises and sunsets.

This question makes me want to watch The Sound of Music!

Can't wait to hear your answers. I think the comment problem is fixed!

Scripture Memory Verse #18

Hello Dear Pilgrimagers (We are definitely on a long journey with a purpose, aren't we!)

How are you doing?  A get together is still on my heart and mind.  With our local Body of Believers, at the Well Community Church, we are starting up Life Groups and so that has been where my time and energy has been lately and loving on my family.  As soon as we get through this week, I am going to take some time and plan a special reunion.  Remember when some of us were able to have lunch at the Save Mart Center?  O how I loved meeting some of you and reuniting with others!

If any of you love to plan and would want to be apart of a Fresno Get Together, feel free to leave that in your comment.  Betty and Sue, you will be with us in our hearts!

Are you ready?  Verse #18.  I am being changed as I meditate and memorize Psalm 84.  His Word is life and is powerful and it penetrates to the deepest places of my soul.

1.  What is your verse? (Even if it is one you have already written down and haven't quite gotten down, rewrite it in the comment section.  This is a great way to help it sink deeper and deeper in our hearts and minds.)

2.  What is a "next step" for you as a disciple of Christ?  On Sunday, we were challenged to ask ourselves this question.

3.  I love you.  Just wanted you to know!

May we see and savor Jesus today!

Memory Verse # 17

We welcome you September 1st! I can't wait for the fall. It has been cooling off here in Fresno, into the 90's this week!

Some of you have said, "I haven't memorized one verse." That's ok! You can start now! Any time we take time to allow God's Word to sink deeply into our hearts is a a great time! Today is a new day.
Find a verse, it can be one that someone else has chosen.
Write it on a 3x5.
Read it out loud slowly.
Read it out loud again slowly, asking the Lord to reveal who He is and His Truth.
Take one phrase and say it out loud over and over and intentionally remembering that the Lord is speaking directly to you through His Word!
It helps me to keep my verse with me throughout the week. I carry it around the house and in the car and sometimes on my desk at work.

We can do this! By the LORD's power and grace. He wants us to know Him! Isn't that fantastic!

I am thankful for you today. May we sense His real Presence in our lives as we look to Him all day long.

1. What is your verse 17 or your 1st?
2. Why did you choose it?
3. How are you going to live it? (What are some practical things you can do to live what your verse says?)

If you are participating in the Living Proof Memory Team, the title above is a direct link. You can simply click on it.

If you have a hard time posting in the comment section, you can email me and I would love to post it for you! Each of us would love to read where the Lord has you and what you are memorizing.

YOU ARE LOVED COMPLETELY BY JESUS CHRIST!

Memory Verse # 16!

Good Afternoon Friends!
Are you ready for your 16th verse? I am heading to take Julianne, our 15 year old, to walk thru registration at school in a couple of minutes, so this will be a quick check in for me.

1. What is your verse for the last half of August?
2. Why did you choose it?
3. What is a "next step" in your life you need to take to walk more intimately with Jesus?

I love you!

You can click on the title of this post if you are posting your verse on the Living Proof Site as well. It will lead you there.

Prayer Answered--Melissa

Melissa Danisi's own words proclaiming the excellencies of the LORD in her classroom last year from beginning of seeking prayer to His Ephesians 3:20 way of answering:

A few months back you may remember I sent you an email asking for prayer regarding my classroom. I was teaching in a Title 1 school in Fresno Unified, which means my school is low achieving and low socio-economic status. I was struggling, my kids weren’t learning, I was feeling frustrated with students behavior, home life, CPS stuff, etc. I was feeling alone, feeling overwhelmed, and feeling like I could never do enough to help these kids. I asked you to pray Colossians 4:2-4 “Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving. At the same time, pray also for us, that God may open to us a door for the word, to declare the mystery of Christ, on account of which I am in prison— that I may make it clear, which is how I ought to speak.”

I had no idea what would happen next. Within a few weeks, gospel conversations started happening in my class. I always champion those who are in Good News Club (an after school bible study hosted by a neighborhood church). I was asking some of the students what they were learning when one of my student’s said “I used to go to Good News club ‘til my dad said I can’t go no more”. I asked why and she said “because she came home asking him questions he didn’t know the answers to so he told her she’s not allowed to go anymore.”

I responded, well I can answer your questions! My class erupted in questions about God, Jesus, the bible, etc. “Why did they put the nails in Jesus hands? How did God make dinosaurs? Is God the smartest person ever?” I started answering their questions and then gave them each a paper. I shared that I’d love to continue talking about these things but would need their parent’s permission. So I told them go home, write down all of your questions, and then have your parent’s sign it so I know it’s okay we talk about these things. From there we continued to talk about the God of the Bible, about Jesus life, death, and resurrection. Some of the students asked if they could get a bible, go to church with me, etc. Parents contacted me to see if I would take them to church, so I did! I ended up taking 11 of my students to church with me this past year!

I’ve been working with kids for 10 years and never have I had such an open door! In the meantime I found out I was getting a pink slip, because of the $70 million budget cut, I wouldn’t have a job the following year. Immediately I began reflecting on if I had been faithful these past 5 years preaching Jesus Christ and Him crucified to my studetns, coworkers, etc. I began thinking about how The Great Commission tells us “as we are going . . . make discples.” I wasn’t “going” anywhere, so I just replaced “as you are teaching . . . go and make disciples. I started thinking about how no matter where Paul was (making tents, in prison, in synogogues, as he was “teaching” he was making disciples. So I decided that since I would never see these kids tests scores (which is what it’s all about now-a-days), I would “make disciples”. I would endure their behavior, their homelife, etc. for the sake of making Him known.

We began having after school bible study/prayer, I allowed the kids to read and discuss the Bible in class. One day (my most disruptive student) was super quiet with his head down in the back of the class. It was very unusual so I was suspecting he was doing something he shouldn’t be. I walk to the back of the room to find him copying down Philippians 2:14 “Do all things without grumbling or questioning, on an index card. (This was a verse I had shared with my class when they would start whining about homework ;-) I asked him if he knows what it means to be a child of God? If he knew about Jesus and eternal life. I have to say, it was never so easy to share and offer the gospel. The harvest was plenty . . .

In the meantime, my friend Yvonne had received a check from one of her friends who came to Christ through a conversation they had on a plane a couple of years ago. Yvonne’s friend Betty wanted to give money to the LORD but was not a part of a church yet. So she asked Yvonne to take the money and give as she would see fit. Yvonne approached me and had the idea to give the 11 students in my classroom who had come to church with me a bible. She would have their names engraved and everything. So she did! As the end of the year approached, and I knew for sure I wouldn’t be coming back the next year, I decided I wanted ALL of my students to receive a bible. So I went out and bought the rest of my students a bible. I spent about $250 on the bibles, which was not in our budget. I emailed the prayer team and my life group asking if they’d like to sponsor a child, by faith I knew God would provide enough people to sponsor my students. By the time I had checked my email the next morning, He did. We had more than enough.

So on the last day of school, the last day of the hardest year I’ve had teaching, possibly the last day of my teaching career, through God’s provision through His people and your prayers that opened the door, I was able to give 23 students a bible. They were so excited! I still can’t believe this happened. You prayed, God answered, His spirit moved, hearts were open, gospel proclaimed, and I felt like I was in a whirlwind! I felt much like the disciples in Acts 12 who were earnestly praying for Peter to be released from prison, and when he showed up at the door, they didn’t believe it! I knew God would answer, but never in this way!

Here’s some pictures of that day . . . God hears.

Memory Verse #15

Good Morning! I am sitting at the Grind, a local coffee shop, and thinking of you. August 1st! How are you all doing being in the Word this summer and soaking up the LORD? He is worthy of praise, isn't He!

I felt so blessed to meet Mandy, one of us on our Memory Team, this weekend at a wedding. There is an instant bond we have because we have Christ. I am thankful for each of you today!

If you are memorizing with Living Proof Ministries, you can click on the title of this post and it will direct you to their site.

Here we go-in the comment section let's answer the following:

1. What is your verse for these two weeks?
2. Why did you choose the verse?
3. Is there a lie that you are believing about yourself, others, or the Lord, and you need some Truth to replace the lie? What is it? Would you like someone from our Team to help you find Truth to help in the process of trusting the Lord in our thoughts? (This might be a verse you want to hide in your heart, if you don't have a verse yet :) )
This question came to mind, because Ashlyn, my 18 year old daughter messaged me from camp, where she is working for the next three weeks and shared two lies she is believing and asked me to help her find Scripture to combat the lie with what is true. Scripture came flooding into my mind. His Word is powerful and for every single day of our lives! I felt in awe of the Lord in her, that she would not be ok with living in the lie, but would actually want to live in the power and freedom of Christ. I sure had no idea how to do that at 18.

I am grateful for each of you! Let's not give up!!! Let's get back on the horse! We can do this! The Lord is about transforming each of us for His glory!

I love you.

Hip Hip Horray! Mandy is Joining Us for the Journey!

With great joy, we cheer in Mandy!

It thrills my heart that you are inviting friends on this journey to know Jesus more intimately through His Word! Please always feel the freedom to invite ladies to join our Team. We all just want to know our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ! The more the merrier!

Mandy's responses to a few questions I through out so we can get to know her:

Thanks for letting me a part of your team!

About me... I live in Fresno and have lived here my whole life. I graduated from Fresno State last year with a Business Marketing degree. I just got married about a month and a half ago and I am loving marriage! I don't have a job right now since wedding planning was taking up so much of my time, but I am now starting to look. I love being creative and making things so hopefully I can do something like that. That's me in a nutshell!

I always want to memorize scripture, but haven't as much as I would like because I don't always have the motivation. I want to know different verses by heart so that when I need the right one for a certain situation in life, I will be able to recite His word and be reminded or be able to help others. I like this group because it will hold me more accountable in memorizing His word.

Congratulations on your marriage, Mandy! What creative things do you love?

Welcome Tami!

With great joy we welcome Tami to the Scripture Memory Team!

I asked her to share abit about herself, so we could get to know her:

My name is Tami Anderson, and I live in Fresno, California. I am married to David Anderson. We have been married for 26 years. We have three children. Michelle is eighteen, John is sixteen, and Joel is thirteen. I am a Special Education IA for Clovis Unified. The reason that I went into special education is because when my youngest son was 18 months old he was diagnosed with Hypotonia (mild low muscle tone). It caused him to be globally delayed in fine motor, speech, and gross motor skills. It was definitely a time that stretched my faith in God, and helped me realize God's great love for me, and our son. He knew exactly what type of support I would need, and my son would need to recover from this. He provided it through a team of doctors, speech therapists. physical therapists, occupational therapists, special education teachers, psychologists, the Family Resource person at the Early Start Program through Clovis Unified, and the support group that I attended through the Early Start Program. I saw God's love through these people. I have a passion for Special Education because of this experience. I chose to memorize God's word in order to align my thinking with what is important to God, so I can live a life more pleasing to Him.

Verse #12

We are half way through memorizing our goal of 24 verses this year once verse 12 is in our hearts! Praise that Lord for His Word. It is life to us!

Let's be reviewing the other verses daily as well. It only takes minutes to flip through each verse and say it out loud and sit in the truth of what the Lord is etching in us, to the depths of our souls. My best times to do this is at stop lights or in a doctor's office. The spirals are so convenient to carry around. Some of you may feel like you have no alone time to soak in His Word. Something I have done over the years is to laminate verses and stick them in the shower. When the kids were little, this was one of my few moments alone in the day.

May you sense the Lord's presence today. He is right here, near, and in you! Praise Him!

1. Verse
2. Why you chose it
3. One thing you are thankful for today

Love you!

Yvonne's Question

Yvonne's Question: What is your favorite thing to do on a Saturday? Are you doing it? :)

Yvonne's Response: I love to begin the day watching the sun rise, drinking a cup of coffee, spending time with Jesus in the stillness of the day. I guess I have more than one thing, it is the feel of the whole day...spending time with Brian and the kids either going on a walk, enjoy time playing a game, cuddling, laughing...simply being together!

Today, I am home, enjoyed time with Jesus, longing for a cup of coffee (our kitchen is not quite put back together from a major leak which required redoing the whole kitchen, which means no water or sink yet. Should I go to Starbucks?) The kids are going to help with a cancer research fundraiser at Valley Children's Hospital today and I am at home while the floor guys work on prepping for the wood floor. Brian is on shift. So all that to say, not my favorite Saturday, but am quite satisfied in the Lord, knowing that it is exactly where I am to be. So if anyone wants to call me...

What about you?

Trip To Texas

What did you all do over spring break? If you have any pictures of happenings in your life, I would love to post them, so we can all see and pretend we were with you.
Char sent me this picture from her fancy iphone. (I don't know how to get mine off my phone)
Brian and I went to Texas for a whole week and visited Charlotte, and two other sets of friends. (Thanks Betty!) While we were in the Dallas area we visited the JFK memorial and got to witness and enjoy a wedding of some dear friends' son. The above picture was right before we left for the occasion. Now, for you Californians, be warned, if you have fine hair and go out in 50% humidity, it might be a good idea to go for the straight look to begin with. Did I say I love Texas? Cause I do! Loved the hospitality, time to drink coffee with friends, make new friends, loved the creativity of our Lord making everything bigger there...

Scripture Verse #8

Good Morning Team! It's hard to believe that we are about to memorize our 8th verse of this year.

It is a beautiful spring day in Fresno, CA and a wonderful morning soaking up God's Word. May the LORD grace us with faith to believe Him AND His Truth each moment of today.

1. Write your verse in the comment section on this post.
2. How are you doing today? What is filling your heart and mind? This way we can be serving one another and praying for each other as we go about this Friday.
3. Click on the title of this post and it will lead you to the Living Proof Blog and you can write your verse in the comments there as well. I love this blog and to scan through the thousands of ladies from all over the world who are memorizing the Word, but I LOVE our smaller community here and the opportunity it is to know each other more intimately.

I love you! Have a wonderful weekend and week ahead as we head into the Passover/Easter Season. Jesus is our Passover Lamb, the One who has taken away our sin. Glory! Brian and I are heading to Texas to visit Charlotte and Betty, both on our Scripture Memory Team and ladies who are precious to me.

Vivian's Question

Vivian's Question: Do you play any sports or did you in years past?

Vivian's Response: I played tennis and just recently started playing again. It's been loads of fun for me to be back on the courts again.

Living Proof Live- Fresno, CA

Some of us had the privilege of worshipping the LORD and studying the Word with 6500 women in Fresno, CA this last Friday and Saturday. The message from James 5:7-11 was "Between the Rains". Beth Moore challenged us with 8 things, entitled "Eight in the Wait". What do we do in the dry season? For those on the Team who were blessed to attend, please share what the Lord impressed upon your hearts by soaking in His Word.

Vivian had a wonderful idea to share in a picnic together after the event, so we brought chairs, blankets, food, and parked ourselves on a little grass patch right in front of the Save Mart Center. We had such a refreshing time! I think there were about 17 of us who enjoyed the meal together, which included 6 from the Team and the other 11 ladies were our family and friends. It was wonderful meet and spend time with the ladies we are journeying through Scripture memorization with, to see one another's faces and hear bits of our lives. For those of you who couldn't join us, you were missed, but we took a picture so we could begin to put faces and names together.

Yvonne & Debbie (Newest Lady on our Team! Welcome Debbie!)
The story of how Debbie and I are sitting side by side after not seeing each other for almost 19 years, since the day we graduated from high school, is such a mighty work of the Lord. We will save it for another day.
Christina & Bethany enjoying lunch and getting to know one another.

Bethany is sending some more pictures from this last weekend, so I will post them as soon as I receive them. The above ones were from my little point and shoot and thought they would suffice for now.

Scripture Memory Verse #7

Good Morning Friends!

Can you believe we are on verse 7 already? Now we have six verses to be reviewing daily and one to hide deeply in our heart. If memorizing is hard for you, don't get bogged down in it, let the Lord minister to you through His powerful Word. When we meditate, intentionally think again and again on His Truth, He changes us. Satan wants to discourage us and make us feel like losers, if we are having a hard time recalling our verses, so we might be tempted to just stop trying...let's not give up! His Word is powerful, healing, encouraging, the Truth. Let's cling to Christ, He is the WORD!

This is the first time we are sharing our verses on the blog, so click on "comment" and write our verses out!

Welcome to the Team Jen!

Joel, Tommy, Jen, Ellie

*UPDATED WITH JEN'S RESPONSES*
We have a new member of our Team. Let's give Jen a warm welcome!

Jen is a dear friend of mine from Hume Lake...I will update this post when she shares a bit about herself with me via email. She is way better with articulating through written word than I, so be on the look out so we can get to know our sister better.

Jen~
Quick summary of life now: I am married to Joel and have the privilege of being a stay-at-home mom to my two precious children, Ellie Mae (4) and Tommy (2). We live at Hume Lake Christian Camps where we have been blessed to serve the Lord for just about nine years (as someone once said of this place and in fact who lived in the house that I now live in, when you wake up in the morning and look at the view, it's hard to imagine that they actually pay us to live here!). I desire to follow the Lord with my whole heart and serve Him passionately, but the reality is that I am a definite work in progress and can just try to daily seek Him and live as He desires, knowing that I live in His very real, completely undeserved, overwhelming grace.

Defining moment in my life: There have probably been many defining moments in my life, but the one that I go back to again and again started (for me) early in the morning of March 1, 1999. I was a senior in college and received a call at 6:00 in the morning from my Dad's best friend to tell me that my dad (my hero) had been in a skiing accident the day before that left him a C-5 quadriplegic. My dad was rarely able to take vacations, but he received a generous Christmas gift from one of his insurance clients that year and went to Utah to snow ski with some friends. On the last run of the last day, my cautious dad took a fall that, through a series of events, led to him slamming head first into a tree. I received the call the next day because he did not want his only child to worry while he was in surgery, and instead instructed his best friend to call me after the surgery was over, when it would be known if he had made it alive. I thought that I was a Christian at the time, but was very definitely living a double lifestyle. Dad's accident left me stuck in "sad," crying for hours after every visit. It's a weird sort of heartache to deal with because on the one hand, he did not die, and for that I was very thankful, especially after fearing that very thing for months, and even the night of his accident in church, though I wouldn't find out for another 12 hours (I had a Christian mentor helping me to try to give up that fear to the Lord, and in hindsight, I believe that the Lord went before me to prepare my heart for the worst so that I could be thankful for anything less). But on the other hand, part of my dad did die in a sense, and a lot of hopes and dreams along with the accident. I felt desperate to get right with the Lord, so to speak, and had no idea how to go about doing that, other than to follow my best friend to Hume Lake for the summer. Miraculously (in all seriousness), I was hired, came up here and I think truly met the Lord for the first time that made a difference in who I actually was and how I lived. I haven't looked back since that summer in terms of pursuing Him and trying to live a life that honors Him. I continue to work through issues surrounding my dad's accident, especially the sadness of my husband not knowing all of who he was and my children not being able to have the fulness of their grandpa (my dad would have visited us all the time if he was able, and he would have been a very hands-on grandpa...I know that they will love being with him more and more as they grow, but at young ages, physical abilities make a huge impact on the ability to connect). Spiritually, I have one remaining hurdle that I continue to work through...I can only point to a couple of times when I know for certain that the Lord was speaking directly to me, and one of those times was during that first summer at Hume when I heard God speak into my heart clear as day, "I will heal your father when you believe that I will." I absolutely believe that God can, but to believe that he *will* has been a struggle...I always want to leave the back door open in case He chooses not to for other purposes, I think so that I won't be disappointed. I made myself believe (or as close to it as I could) that God would heal Dad in time to walk me down the aisle on my wedding day, and I remember so clearly the moment after my maid of honor walked through the doors and it was just me left, and I knew that it wouldn't happen in time. I later figured out that clearly, I was not looking to His timing at all! Anyhow, since that time, I think I just haven't been nearly as fervent in believing the Lord as He told me to (or at least trying), and I recently felt convicted to revisit this lack of faith. Even if He never heals my father, I want to be in a place in my relationship with Him that I have absolute faith in believing Him when He speaks and unshakable trust in Him. I also know that there are far worse tragedies that so many are dealing with, and hardships beyond comprehension...this just happens to be the place where the Lord has met me the most powerfully in my life.

Things that make you laugh: So many things make me laugh! I love that God provides laughter and joy through it! My children make me laugh so often with the things that they say and do...it's great! I love to laugh with my husband and friends (so many of my friends make me laugh), and I think memories might be the biggest source of laughter within these relationships. My own failures often make me laugh, too (I think it's probably a good thing to be able to laugh at yourself, right?!)! Just the other day, God's sense of humor really gave me a good chuckle as I looked at my calendar and realized that it was the first day of spring...in the middle of an enormous snow storm! Okay, so really just about anything will make me laugh!

Reason for memorizing Scripture: I am part of a covenant group, and the other girls wisely decided that Scripture memorization was something we should incorporate. Memorizing is not something that I am naturally inclined toward doing well, so I have been lazy about the effort that it takes during most seasons of my life, though I have been aware of the need to change this in my life. I am thankful that God surrounds us with wise people to spur us on toward Him!

Mandy's Question

Mandy's Question: So I'm reading this book called Experiencing God written by H&R Blackaby, one if the questions it asks is "Are you satisfied with your relationship with Christ, or do you constantly feel the need to be doing something for Him?" and this is a question I would like to ask you all.

Mandy's Answer: For myself, lately, I haven't had that "satisfied" feeling in my relationship with Christ. I've been feeling like everything is going... Going, going. Like those times where there's all your unanswered prayers, and it feels as if they'll never be answered. So I ask God, what should I do, what do I need to do? Maybe it's because of my own sin, but as in the question, lately I have been constantly feeling the need to please God. Maybe because I don't feel like He's forgiven me? I don't know, maybe.

Can't wait to read your thoughts...

Amber's Question

On March 15th, I asked you what you would want to ask each lady on the team. You emailed some great questions-some deep and theological and others lighter, so I will post a question every so often and each of us can answer it in the comment section. What a wonderful way to get to know each other!

Amber's question: What is your favorite color?

Amber's response: Green

Welcome to the Scripture Memory Team Blog!

As I was trying to sort through all your precious emails, I found myself getting lost and not being able to read and respond well to them. With a blog, we can always see who is on our team, to lift each other up in prayer and to encourage each other in the Lord. My desire is that this solution will be a blessing to the team.

Always feel free to give new ideas via email or comments, so we can adjust things to make our time serving each other more effective.

Please let me know if I have left anyone off of our team. Our group was deleted from my email addresses and so I started from scratch and created it from memory and I have a feeling I didn't remember well.

We will use the "Comment" section to respond to the questions you posed to us, as well as to write our verse on the 1st and 15th of the month.

Click on "Follow" and when you look at your dashboard, you will be notified when there is a new post.

Let me know if this is confusing and I would love to walk you through the "how to's".

By the way, how is memorizing going in March for you?
