Guest Post: Stripe Style from Melanie at My Billie

Today I'm so happy to share a guest post from the wonderful Melanie from My Billie. Melanie is a super sweet girl as well as being talented at design, blogging, and probably other things I don't even know about. You should check out her blog when you have a moment! Here she is, with some styling inspiration, and one of my favorite patterns:

Howdy folks! This is Melanie from My Billie and I'm honored as ever to be stopping by on Shell's blog today. I'm going to share with you guys a current (or perpetual) obsession of mine: stripes.

Stripes. Ahhhhh. Such a good thing to have in your life! So much versatility. To me, stripes automatically add interest to a room, design or outfit. You can go simple with stripes or insanely bold. Chic or funky. Elegant or grungy. And oh, how timeless they are! STRIPE YEAH!!

Photo A Day #126 Berry Reds

I started preparing my first recipe post for you tonight, but it's not going up for a couple of days. So in the meantime, here's a clue:

I hope you are having a fabulous week :)

Photo A Day #125 Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania Part 2

The Brandywine museum called to us for a second day running, so we headed back to absorb some more art. When it came to feedin' time, we made a little picnic by the river. It was so peaceful and beautiful. And then the watercraft came. There was a canoe/kayak/dinghy hire shop up the river and they had obviously just catered to a large family group. It was so fun watching all different crew combinations float down the river in various craft. But I did have a favorite. This little boy, who had obviously drawn the short straw and been allowed a single paddle to maneuver his inner tube. He was SO mad! He was causing all kinds of fuss, splashing, kicking and yelling, but his paddle would only send him in circles. I felt mean laughing, but he was so cute! And he learned about physics at the same time.

C didn't feel bad at all about laughing at the kid, he even took pictures of his turmoil.

I know squirrels are commonplace in the states, and even when I lived in London, I saw them all the time. But I still get excited when I see one. Even if it is rifling through the trash!

We had a lovely dinner at a posh restaurant as the sun set. The best part about the dinner was all of the beautiful wildlife roaming around. I saw my first real-life cardinal. I was way more excited than I look in this picture! There was also the most entertaining exchange between two bunnies. The lady bunny kept offering herself to the male bunny, but then when he got close enough, she would hop away. This went on for about, oh, an hour. The male bunny was persistent, the diners were amused and the poor bunnies didn't further the bunny race, at least while we were there.

As we finished eating, C dashed across the road to capture this beautiful cornfield in the perfect golden light. It was simply stunning.

Photo A Day #124 Historic Buildings in Sydney

During my evening walks through the city, I thought it would be nice to snap the occasional architectural wonder :) I don't know much about the history of these buildings, except that most of the old nice ones are owned by banks. It's the same everywhere right?

What I Wore - Bugs and Mossy Stones

My, this blouse certainly is popular. I love it, but I hate not being unique (I think this is a weird thing to feel, especially about clothes, especially as a blogger - wait, I'm a blogger? - I might not see anyone with the same outfits in 'real-life' but I guess you narrow your view with blogs and see people who have the same amazing taste as you!) This is one of the reasons why I love vintage clothes, you (often) won't find another item the same. Regardless of this, I adore the print on this blouse, I could stare at all the different bugs for hours. And the collar is really cute!

This turquoise ring is from Tucson (of course), it was made especially for it's original recipient. It's holding my other ring on, which is a beautiful opal and diamond ring, both gifts.

I thought this church was perhaps abandoned, but apparently not. The stairs are all crumbling and covered in moss and lichens. It's really beautiful. The side is covered in graffiti tags, which is a real shame. I don't understand how somebody can 'tag' a beautiful old sandstone building. It really annoys me.

Bug Blouse // Zara (ebay purchase)
Skirt // Dangerfield
Tights // Generic Black tights (I have no idea)
Rings // Both gifts

I was hunting for a plain black skirt to match the bug blouse, when I found this green one and thought it would be perfect! It's so nice, the only problem is that it creases quite easily, and any form of sitting down relegates it to 'well-worn' status. Oh well... I still like it.

Photo A Day #123 Dear Weekend

OK weekend, we need to talk. You're supposed to be there for me, as a respite from the working week. A time to kick back and let the cares of the world pass me by. You seem to be quite fond of striking me down with an ailment, or providing a chore. This weekend was different only in the dramatics of your disruption. Please be kind to me next weekend, weekend?

Love, Kitty

Now that that is done with, I'll explain a little. You guys saw Space Cat (aka Hobbes) right? He's been a bit under the weather lately, but on Saturday he had a full-blown hypoglycemic episode. The poor little guy had a number of seizures and we almost lost him. A couple of emergency dashes to two different vets, blood tests and shaved arms, and he's OK. He's been diabetic for 3 years and we've never experienced this before. So I thought I would share it with you in case you have a pet that suffers from diabetes.

Thank goodness for the internet, it meant we could look up his symptoms and make an educated guess as to what was wrong. He became really disoriented, was shaking his head slowly from side to side, possibly hallucinating and his pupils became very, very dilated. He reached a point where he couldn't walk and he fell on his head a couple of times. It was so incredibly scary. The fastest solution to hypoglycemia is to apply a bit of honey to his gums in order to raise his blood sugar level. After a little while, he was back to normal levels, and ready for a long nap.

He still has some issues, which we are hoping to diagnose this week (waiting on test results) But I am so grateful to the two vets that helped us over Saturday. Since I'd never witnessed hypoglycemia before, I had no idea what was going on with him. I'm definitely not a vet or medical expert, so if your pet is ill, make sure you take them to a vet immediately. I just wanted to share our experience, as the honey almost certainly saved Hobbes' life.

On a more positive note, today was super productive, Hobbes was feeling much better, I baked a strawberry and rhubarb crumble, took some great photos, had a lovely lentil burger for dinner and saw yet another great film: The Cabin In The Woods. In my mind, it's the best horror film I have seen in a very long time. Maybe ever. Full of laughs, great suspense, well written. I've seen so many great movies lately, I'm on a roll!

Meet My June Sponsors

I am so excited to share my June sponsors with you all... here's you chance to get to know some of the lovelies from over there >>

My name is Violet and I blog over at Blythe Ponytail Parades, a compilation blog featuring my photography and progress with the business, food and crafts! Come on over if you enjoy vintage inspired photography, tutorials and DIYs, new decadent recipes or a load of inspiration to brighten your day!

One of the top ten things to do before I die would DEFINITELY be to go to Loch Ness in Scotland. It's been a dream of mine since childhood and it will just HAVE to come true some day…

Something that makes me smile is daydreaming. I do it often and it helps pass the time doing things I hate…. like working out! I just daydream the whole time about silly things and then I realize I've been running like a moron with a huge smile on my face and no one else knows why. Also cupcakes ;)

Lazy Explorers is where I share my outfits, DIY ideas, inspirations and adventures.

I really want to go on a big road trip. I want to travel to many different states and find the perfect one to settle down in.

Kind people make me smile. When I see someone doing something self-less for another person, that is when I smile.

My blog, Tastes Like Love, is where I share my daily adventures with my husband Luke & friends, fancy folk, my illustrations of cute girls and custom portraits and delightful things. I wear stockings and dresses everyday, love to go on movie and picnic dates with my husband, coffees at cafes, graphic design & illustration, home wares, live bands and vegetarian meals. Swing by and say hi!

One of my top ten things to do in my life time is to achieve ultimate happiness through being a successful business owner, wife and baby momma with a French bulldog.

Being married to my best friend in the whole world.

My blog is a hodge-podge of all the things that make me happy. For the most part, that includes fashion, beauty, geekery, recipes, self-care advice and pictures of kitties.

I think that everyone should sing karaoke once before they die. It doesn't matter if you've got a voice like a dying squirrel, just get up there and give it a shot. Trust me, it's awesome.

What makes you smile?  There are so many things: kitty-hugs, my boyfriend, British comedy, finding an amazing second-hand treasure. Smile-inducing things are everywhere, you just have to open your eyes to them.

HANDMADE LOVING! UNIQUELY COLORFUL PATTERNS FOR YOUR LEGS!
Uptights, limited edition quirkily elegant leggings and skirts, designed and individually handmade in Australia (with love) in my Sydney based studio. Ideal for yoga, office work, sun worship, theatre going, character flaunting and all things in between. Uptights focuses on designing uniquely inspiring prints which extend the realms of reality into kaleidoscope birds, pac-man grandpa pajamas and floating green eyed cats, to name just a few.

I've got a bit of the travel bug. Would love to say that I have visited, lived and experienced all seven continents of the world :-)

My adopted cat Toby who has one very large front tooth/fang LOL! And my partner Dave :-)

My Billie is a space where I aim to interact with interesting people and other creatives. I try not to put an emphasis on too much of any one thing, but you'll definitely find fashion DIYs, posts about my everyday life and words that are meant to be encouraging.

I'm reeeeally bad at sitting still, so one of my top goals in life is to literally go all over the place. I want to see, hear, touch, smell, taste and experience it all!

I'm kind of a smiley person in general. I smile at everything! I smile at air molecules sometimes when no one is around. But its typically because I'm in good company or remembering a good time that was had : )

Hello! I'm Holly Sweetman, I am a personal trainer by trade but every free second I have I put into my baby, my blog Scuttle. Scuttle is a fashion & lifestyle blog based in hot Atlanta that celebrates everything from fashion & shopping to travel & tasty food. It is a little mix-match of everything but with ALOT of fashion thrown in. I post about all the things that I love & that inspire me, whether that be Prada's line of car themed shoes or a tasty macaroon at a local bakery in Atlanta. My hope is to inspire others to live a life full of the art that we are surrounded with every day, the art that you eat & wear!

I'd like to write a book during my lifetime.

My puppies, a great book & office supplies (I may have a problem - I'm addicted to post-its & sharpies)

And her name is..... *drum roll*..... Deborah! Oh yeah that's me, a full-time biology student, a born explorer, a of-everything-that-has-leaves-on lover, emotional with little but important thing-ies, a book and writing addict and many other things that you will discover as long as you come along with my blog!
Hi! My name is Natasha. I'm a Canadian, married to an American, who I met while living in South Korea. I love design, beautiful words, pretty clothes, pretty spaces, and pretty places. I'm an admirer of anyone who lives to create. After almost four years of living abroad and bouncing around, I now call Charlottesville, Virginia home. I live in a tiny but cozy apartment with my husband Kyle, a few guitars, and sadly no pets yet. Paper Crowns is a place where I post about things I love and things that inspire me.
