Well....

I did my on the ball training class this morning. I love that class. We had a little extra bonding today, Bonnie and I. Gail may have been in on it too and Barbara WISHES she was....LOL. I was bitten by an insect (hopefully not a spider) on an area usually covered by a bra. Ya, I know! 3 weeks ago! It was not healing and the whole "area" felt different so I had a doc appointment after running. Meanwhile, I had Bonnie take a peek....lol. She pretended to protest but she was a good friend and looked. She said it didn't look too bad. I told the doctor I'd probably laugh when he checked it out because I laugh when I am nervous. He said for me not to be offended if he didn't laugh. PFFFFT...I'd have been offended if he did! So anyway, I have some stuff for it, it should be gone soon. Not sure why I felt the need to share this with you all, but there it is!

I could not run today. I basically walked maybe a mile. I tried to run a couple times, but I'm afraid of hurting it more. I ran last week and did fine, but then haven't been able to run since. I'd rather baby it another week and then be free to start my training.

Training for what, you may be asking yourself. Training for the Cape Cod marathon! I am going to TRY to qualify for Boston 2009. I asked my coach, Jim, if it would be possible. At first he made a face and said shaving 30 minutes would be great, but 1:48??? So I asked him again today, knowing full well I was going for it anyway, and he said YES, I could possibly pull it off. But I have to say, Jim has never ever said one negitive thing about any goal I've set. He's always very positive, which is what got me to the Sarasota marathon. He never let me think he doubted my ability even once. His "of course-you-can" attitude is what makes him a great coach. So here we go again.

Training begins the very moment my hip flexor is healed. Let the games begin!

Cape Cod Marathon

I spoke with Jim at the gym about shaving 1:47 off my marathon time. He says just shaving 30 minutes would be awesome, 1:47 is a stretch. So that means it COULD be done. The only thing is, I think I talked my sis-in-law Michelle to run the Cape Cod marathon too. She's a little tiny bit reluctant, but I know she can do it! If Michelle does run with me I'd just run it for fun and stay together. But if she finds that she can't or she doesn't want to.....well then I'm gonna go for it.

I kinda feel like I felt when I first decided to run a marathon last October. Excited. Nervous. More than a little crazy. How cool would it be to run THE Boston marathon????? Especially being a Boston native. I have 7 months to train for this. And since I'm the captain....I'm giving it all I've got. This time I know what I'm in for. I have the breathing and endurance down. I just need the speed. While I wouldn't say I made any huge mistakes in the Grouper Run, I can definately think of a couple things I can do differently. Especially with the training part.

I guess I can combine my Body For Life challenge, shaving my 5K time and training to qualify for Boston into one big goal. It will all be a benefit toward the ultimate goal. And I do have that invite to train with the high school track team.

I need to check into this a little more.

Vanilla Got Free Running Shoes

Well hey! I'm so jealous! I found this blogger through Sherry's blog (see both links to the right) who is a riot. I peek at his blog everyday and crack up! Very funny guy. Chicks dig his cool writing skills...more than any nunchuck skills he may have, and I wouldn't doubt he has those too. So he got a pair of Pearl Izumi Synchro Infinity running shoes sent to him to try out. I was right there reading his post about opening the box. Removing the tissue paper, smelling that "oh-so-new" sneaker smell that will be destroyed in one mile.....and I was feeling the euphoria with him. How very, very flattering to have a company send you their newest product to try out! It's like being a celebrity! Maybe I should get his autograph before he's too famous!

So these particular shoes are black and gray. They look pretty manly. So manly that it makes me wonder what the girly version looks like. Pink???? That's my favorite color. The manly version even has shocky things that look like big teeth growling. Do the girly ones have veneer-like teeth? Maybe a few little sparkly decorations? I'm all about the girly look. I'll check into it and get back to ya.

Wait a minute now....this blogger is the "Shave Your 5K Time" challenge guy. If he wins, that will not be fair....I'm going to have to look into this a little more. I think he may have an edge. A "one-up". Hmmmmm.....just the phsychological boost alone could possibly make him faster. I feel my inner competitor awakening.

Too bad I can't even run. I hate my hip flexor.....Grrrrrrrr

Cape Cod, Ma Marathon

OOOOOOOOOHHH....guess what I found out????? The Cape Cod marathon is a qualifying marathon for BOSTON! But, I'd need to shave 1 hour, 47 minutes to do that. In seven months. For a 42 year old woman, I need to have a finish time of 3:50:59 from a qualifying marathon. I need to run this past Jim. He'll tell me like it is. I already asked him what he thought my finish time would be for Cape Cod, he said 5 hours, but that was before I started thinking about Boston. I saw Jim this morning but he was busy and I was too chicken to ask....LOL

This is all happening because I can't run, so I went and bought a couple of books about women who run. I was up past midnight reading about these phenomenal women, they made me so excited I couldn't sleep. I got out of bed and started looking at marathon maps and happened across the list of qualifying races for Boston. I thought "NO WAY", then I thought, "Well, why not?" I feel excited just writing this!

I wonder if I should do a half sometime in July as a gage. This flexor better hurry up and heal. I have some plans, babyyyyyyyy.........
