Birthday RAK's

Hello, and happy Tuesday.  I'm sitting here watching LOST - love, LOVE, Lost - it's a repeat episode though.  The one with Richard.  Yum.  Anyway...  I had all my birthday cards on display, so I thought I'd show you the handmade cards that arrived in my happy mail box this past week.

This sweet card is from Vera Schoeters - my fellow Great Swaps Girl.  I love the stamped inside - delish!

This beauty is from Karen Motz - Love the polka dot coffee mug!  

I love this little girl  - she reminds me of my sweet little Katie with 2 little ponytails.  This is from Jackie Pedro.

And this gorgeous card traveled the furthest - all the way from Australia, from Sarah-Jane Kale'.

Lynn Put sent me this darling SSSC card - love those ice cream cones, and of course the pink and brown.

This one is from Stephanie Peters, my very sweet side-line when I was a SU demo.  Miss those stamping nights...  Love the negative image of the scallop punch - very clever!

And last but definitely not least is this darling, amazing and beautiful card from my darling daughter - I love her backwards p's.  So cute - recognize the fun little stencil?  She's been eyeballing that since the day it arrived in my mailbox, lol!

Rockies

Just fair warning for you - this post has nothing to do with stamping or anything crafty, just pure American baseball.  My very sweet MIL scored us some amazing tickets to Saturday's Rockies game, and as it turned out, it was a double-header, so we got two games in these amazing seats - only 7 rows back from the dugout.  I brought along my camera to keep practicing in that crazy manual mode and I wanted to share some pictures here - I think I found my calling - Karen Giron, Sports photographer.  Nice.  I think it fits.  Of course I may be about $30K short on equipment, but what are ya gonna do?

We started off by scoring FREE rock star parking right across from Coors Field - loving my day already.  Not to mention it's the first time the sun was shining in 3 days - Happy Birthday to me!!

So here we are in the first game - Todd Helton at 1st base chatting it up with somebody Collins from the Florida Marlins.  I think they're talking about me, the crazy chick taking all the pictures...

Ah, this guy.  You can't watch baseball and not see a bunch of "grabbing" but this guy... he grabbed himself about 5 times as part of his batting routine every time he came up to bat.  This just made me giggle, so I had to post it.

Call to the bull pen - Sorry Greg, but you stunk it up!

Don't you DARE let that hose touch that sacred gravel - LOL!  Another one that just makes me laugh - how many big guys does it take to carry a hose...

They ran the fountains between games since we didn't get any homeruns in the first game.  Just practicing my "show movement" assignment - right Sarah?

Now we're in the 2nd game - much better pitching this go 'round.

We're having a HUGE birthday party here in SSSCland - April 24th was Vicki's, Sarah's, and my birthday.  Crazy, huh?  Sarah had the brilliant idea to exchange birthday information with the SSSC crew and 3 of us had the same birthday - so I'm thinking we all need the same birthday, but that didn't fly too well.  LOL!

To help me celebrate, I'm using this week's Cupcake Inspiration Challenge from Hope Stamps Eternal - AND to make it even sweeter, it's a birthday cuppie, which just happens to be for HSE's own Rachel - her birthday is Tuesday.  Isn't April just full of happy goodness?  hahaha!  I loved the Neapolitan colors, so I went with that theme, as well as my favorite little cupcake stamps from PTI.  I stamped the top of the cupcake on some Green at Heart paper from Basic Grey (I {heart} Basic Grey!) and then cut out both the bottom and top of the cupcake and popped them up on dimensionals.  The top of the cupcake is popped up twice to give it a little more dimension over the bottom.  I made the sentiment bend by placing my clear block over my scallop and then wrapped the sentiment around the edge of the scallop so it matched.  Cute, no?  The rest of the Sweeties have more Cupcake Inspiration for you too ~ Colleen (out this week) ~ Rachel ~ Kelli ~ Kristen ~ Michelle ~ Piali (out this week) ~ Teresa ~

Center of Attention Product Spotlight - Thickers

Good morning!  Taylored Expressions has a fun product focus this month - THICKERS from American Crafts!!  Oh my word - these are my absolute FAVE letter stickers, so I was overjoyed when Taylor announced we would be playing with  from American Crafts today.  Once a month, half of the Baker's Dozen participate in a TE Product Spotlight. It's so fun to showcase products from the TE Store that you might not be aware of or might just like to learn more about. I use Thickers on both cards and scrapbook pages and the reasons why are completely different.
For cards, I love to make my sentiments a little out of the ordinary, and since Thickers are self adhesive, it makes them super easy to position in place until I get the letters just the way I like them.  I don't need to lift up the letters to apply glue and then put them back in place - it's one step simple!  For my card today, I wanted to make the letters a little skewed - so I put the 'o' and 's' a little wonky - and I love the look.  Now, for scrapbooks, I love the option Thickers give by allowing me to overlap my cardstock layers.  When you use alphabet stamps over layers of cardstock, the ink leaves a gap where the pressure wasn't applied in the gap.  With the Thickers, you get a bold page title quickly and easily.  Here is a page I did for my little boy a while ago:

I could layer over the papers and the photo without distorting the letters.  Nice!

New Crafter's Workshop at Taylored Expressions

Taylored Expressions is hosting a blog hop today to showcase the new Crafter's Workshop stencils now available in the TE store.  If you are not familiar with these fun little templates, be sure to hop around to all of our blogs today to get a wide range of delightful ways to use them.

I'm using the Tree of Life stencil this morning and I thought it would be fun to ink it up a few different ways.  First, I used Repositional adhesive on the underside of the template to keep it tightly against my cardstock and then used some Dark Brown Colorbox chalk ink to create the tree trunk after I masked off the leaves I didn't want to stencil just yet.  Once the ink dried, I masked off the tree trunk and birds, and then used Versamark ink over the leaves.  To make the leaves sparkle, I used Heat & Stick powder over the Versamark ink (use a heat tool to activate the powder) and then added the Pistachio glitter and heat set them so the glitter doesn't rub off.  Nice and sparkly!!  I put the stencil back on and added some Lemon Yellow Liquid Pearls to the little circles border around the outside of the tree.  While the Liquid Pearls were still wet, I removed the template. Such a fun and easy way to make a little border around any image!  I added some punched out flowers and dabbed a little Cotton Candy Stickles in the centers {more sparkles!} and used a sentiment from Celebrate Life.

I've decided to change the deadline for getting your card linked to Fridays at 10PM, mainly because I always forget about it on Thursday (I kinda roll like that, I guess).  I'll post the weekly winners on Saturday afternoons or evenings for you.  Hope you all will enjoy the extra day - all of us procrastinators need to keep ourselves afloat somehow, right??  

Can you tell I have minimal stamping on my card??  I had stamper's block, so I decided to use a piece of Sweet Pea paper and use the Out of the Box technique for Nestabilities to keep the butterfly in tact.  This is one of those techniques I KNOW I should have done a million times before now, but I didn't know how to do it - thanks SCS for keeping all of us "slower than the Jones" stampers in the loop - bwahaha!  The minute I read the tutorial, I slapped my forehead so hard I gave myself a headache.  Nice, huh?  haha!

I'll be doing a blog makeover here soon, so if you come by and things look a little crazy, that's why.  Can't wait to fix it!

mmmmm.... strawberries

The minute I saw Taylor's sketch this morning, I knew I wanted to play along.  It's unique and a challenge, for sure!  I was looking through my stamps that haven't seen ink lately, and I saw Berries & Cherries and thought those berries would be perfect this week with all the springtime weather we've been having.  Lots of time has been spent at the park and it has been wonderful!  I layered the little strawberry brad in a large button and then added more little buttons to keep the balance.

When I made this sketch, I had these little felt cupcake stickers from Martha Stewart in mind and created my card around them.  To match the color, I chose some Kaleidoscope paper from Stampin' Up! - which I must admit, completely freaks me out!  Those colors are SO bright!  I added a little die cut Labels 9 Nestabilities on the main image panel to give it a little flair and then layered the turquoise cupcake on a 1-1/4" circle to make it stand out from the background a little bit.  The sentiment is stamped in Versamark ink and heat embossed with white embossing powder.  My card size is 5-1/2" square.

Taylored Expressions Release Party

Today is the day - the new releases are here and available at Taylored Expressions!  Along with 4 full stamp sets, 1 mini set, and 3 A La Carte cuppies, TE is debuting 3 new Card Kits!  Today some of the Baker's Dozen are featuring the Early Bird Card Kit, which is darling!  It includes:

Taylored Expressions Sneak Peek Day 2

Welcome back to the Taylored Expressions sneak peeks for the April release!  Today I'm here to introduce you to 2 new sets as well as stamps a la carte!  First up is another Whimsical Wishes set designed by Nancy McKinney - Make the Grade.  Teacher Appreciation week is May 2-8 and this set is perfect for teacher cards and gifts! Now that I have children in both elementary school and preschool, I really want to keep up with letting both of their teachers know just how much I appreciate all of their hard work and patience.  This card is for my daughter's teacher and she'll be able to write a little note inside in her own handwriting, which always makes a card more personal. 

I instantly thought of using East Coast Prep paper with this set - the bright and bold elementary colors are SO perfect!  I stamped the globe in Memento Tuxedo Black and colored it in with Copic markers - then I stamped it again and popped the globe up on dimensionals - AND the globe fits the 1" circle punch perfectly - so handy!

Next up is one of the new Stamps a la Carte - Cuppie images as well as the compliment set to Make the Grade - Extra Credit. 

I love how the desk fits most of the Extra Credit sentiments - super fun!  I stamped the Teacher Cuppie in Memento Tuxedo Black and colored it with Copics and then added half the cursive alphabet up on top of the card.

Taylored Expressions Sneak Peek Day 1

Good morning!  I'm so super excited to show you today's little sneak peek of 2 new sets designed by the famously fabulous, Nancy McKinney, CreativiTEA and Miniature Motifs - I can't stand it!  It's release week for Taylored Expressions and all the new sets, which will be available for purchase on Thursday, April 8th!  Let me start off by saying that I had a very difficult time putting this set down - I think I have a half dozen little images started on my desk that I know I'll put to good use.  So many fun things to use with these sets, so I'll start off with my card:

I thought I'd try a technique that is an oldie, but goody, for my little tea pot - Kissing.  How can you go wrong with kissing?  haha!  I did the technique the opposite way though - I inked up one of the swirly Miniature Motifs background stamps with Certainly Celery ink and then stamped the solid tea pot from CreativiTEA on top of the wet ink.  Then to define the image, I stamped the outline tea pot in Memento Rich Cocoa ink using a stamp positioner.  The frame is from CreativiTEA also - and it fits perfectly in Nestabilities Labels 9!  I love that I don't need to cut it out by hand.  I colored the border in with a Copic marker and popped the tea pot up with dimensionals.  It's difficult to see in the photo, but the pink scallop is also stamped with the damask image from Miniature Motifs.

One addition to the TE store this release is this totally adorable tea tin!  I had to dress mine all up and put pretty little apple blossoms all over it, lol!  I stamped the Time for Tea sentiment in Memento Rich Cocoa and then used my Window Punch to cut it out and tie it to the ribbon.

I used a large corner rounder to get the edges to match the top of the lid, which happens to fit one of the Large Square Nestabilities perfectly.  I added some circle scallops with a little green damask tea pot and another little apple blossom.  I love the soft look!

Hello!  I'm back with a super fun Cupcake Inspiration Challenge from Hope Stamps Eternal.  Look at these fun and adorable colors!! I started off by using Clean & Simple's FTL84 and then grabbed some of this super cute Estate Sale paper from Bella Blvd - I just love the patterns and colors in this paper.  I would have put it all on this card if I could, haha!  I stamped the little Blooming Button Bits flower with Night of Navy ink and added a little pink Sherbet button in the center.  For a little pop, I added a little scallop border on the edge of the image panel too.

First off - I have a fun little announcement for you all.  The FABULOUS Joanne Basile has joined the Sweet Sunday Stampers and I'm so excited she's here to stay!!  

I'm cutting it close with this card - I'm sitting here typing this post with 9 minutes to edit my card and complete my post - whoa!!!  So I'll make this short and sweet, LOL!  I had stamped this little flowering plant image a long time ago and finally put it to use, yippee!  I dug out my long lost Fall Flowers paper and matched it up with some Savannah buttons - they match that soft sky paper perfectly.  And naturally, I needed to use some of this gorgeous satin Old Olive ribbon - love it!!

Well, it's 12:12 and I'm late!!  The girls are gonna give me so much grief...

ink: really rust, old olive

accessories: old olive satin ribbon, nestabilities, apron lace punch, dimensionals

On an not so stamping note - I was bound and determined to finish my photography assignment today, and in the process got these shots that I loved...
