New York Day 2

So I realize this is a little late... so expect lots of new blog posts in the next few days!

Day 2 in New York started with a trip through Times Square, the Rockefeller Center and St. Patrick's Cathedral on our way to the MoMA.

After studying art for a few hours, Annette and I got lunch at Carnegie Deli. This is Annette's sandwich:

After lunch we went shopping in Times Square, visited the infamous B&H, and then went down to Max Brenner for dinner. I hadn't heard of this place before, but it is definitely on my "visit again" list. I had the waffle fries which are fried in a chocolate and chili powder batter. Delicious! I also had this delectable dark chocolate dessert. With ice cream and a chocolate "shot".

Following dinner at Max Brenner, we met up with Joey Moon, one of the best photo re-touchers in New York and one of John's (my photo teacher) good friends. He showed us his before and after book which was incredible. He also showed us some awesome views of New York from the SoHo area.

Pretty good first day!

Hello New York!

I made it to New York! It's been an adventure already. My phone fell out of my pocket in the Taxi and by the time I realized it he was gone. However, Annette called my phone and a few minutes later the taxi driver called back and said he was circling around and I could come out and get it. Whew... that was a close one. So now my phone is zipped up in my purse so that it doesn't fall out anymore.

We were going to eat at the Shake Shack but... there was a small fire so they were closed until the Health Department came and gave the ok for them to open again. So we ate at Cafe Einstein. It was pretty good, but not spectacular. The building was pretty interesting though.

After that we walked around Times Square and then went up to H&M and Rockefeller Square. Everything was closing since it was Sunday but we saw a few things. We then got hot chocolate at Starbucks to help us warm up. It is super windy, otherwise I wouldn't be that cold. Hopefully when the sun is out tomorrow it will be a little better.

Times Square and St. Patrick's Cathedral

Hopefully it will be open tomorrow :)

This is the inside of Cafe Edison. I'm wondering if it was an old part of the hotel that they converted into a restaurant.

There was definitely something big going on here. We walked through a big crowd of people trying to get tickets.

This building looked really cool with the sun hitting it. The skating rink by the Rockefeller Plaza was a lot smaller than I thought, but still cool.

Please come!

I am having my BFA Photography Show opening reception this Saturday from 6-8 PM. The show will be up starting Friday until the end of the semester (April 30) if you can't go to the opening night. There are a few images on my photo blog/website if you want a preview. I'll probably be posting all of them in the next few weeks. Here is a little more info on the opening reception:

Bountiful Basket

Today we participated in the Bountiful Basket program. It was amazing! So for $15 we got a bunch of fruits and vegetables and for $10 we got 5 loaves of 9-grain bread which is absolutely delicious. Here is what we got:

3 Red Pummelos

1 Cantalope

2 Bunches of Bananas

1 carton Strawberries

6 Oranges

4 Green Apples

2 Zucchini

6 Roma Tomatoes

1 Head Lettuce

1 Head Broccoli

1 Head Cauliflower

2 Heads Asparagus

Not too bad! I was planning on buying strawberries later today but now I don't have to. Those alone would be about $5 at the grocery store. They've said that the Bountiful Basket is about $50-60 worth of produce, which makes $15 seem like a fantastic deal. If anyone has recipe ideas for any of our delicious fruits and veggies let me know!

I think we're planning on doing a broccoli cheese soup and maybe a cauliflower soup as well. The asparagus is about the only thing I'm not quite sure what to do with. I think we'll have BLTs today for lunch and we'll probably try the red pummelos with breakfast/lunch today.

Anyway, to say the least we were really excited for all of the fruits and veggies at such a great price!

It's a Hit!

So I recently posted a picture of some cute Halloween treats I made for a photo shoot on my website blog (click here to see it). The image also got accepted on Foodgawker and Tastespotting (two awesome sites for finding recipes and pretty food pictures). I submit photos to them on a regular basis. Sometimes they get accepted, sometimes not. Normally when they get accepted the number of hits (per day) on my website jumps from 15ish to about 300. Well... the two days after the images were accepted I had 800 and 1400 hits. Crazy!

Ironically, I didn't like the image as much as I thought I would but the cute owl cupcakes were what made it so popular. Those definitely are cute. Well... The second day I got an email from the site where I found the idea for the cupcakes. She said she had had a lot of traffic on her site from mine. She thanked me for posting the cupcakes on my site and asked if I would be interesting in assisting/helping them with their next photo shoot. As you can imagine I was thrilled! She thinks the next shoot will be sometime in December (after their photographer has her baby). So I'm looking forward to that! Yay!

Bill was Baptized

Two week ago my Grandma's husband Bill was baptized. It was an amazing experience. All of the 8 missionaries that helped teach him were there, along with about every other missionary in the area. All of the grandchildren sang two songs and the missionaries sang the closing song. There was standing room only in the room with the font. He has a lot of people to support him. Here are a few pictures:

This is a cake that Karron and Kimberly made to celebrate Margo's birthday while we were there.

We stopped at the falls because I haven't seen them (that I remember). The ducks were lined up all long the edge of the fall for about a mile. I wish I could have captured a longer line of them.

Life in AF

Things are pretty normal right now. Nothing really new or exciting. Since Kevin and I are both working and going to school we have been pretty busy and seem to only see each other a few hours a day. Kevin spends lots of time studying and I spend time thinking of concepts for images. We spent a lovely weekend at Anna and Dave's house watching conference. They were kind enough to let us have loads of vegetables from their garden. That's pretty much it really.I've put some new work up on my photography website... If something happens I'll let you know! But for now you may just have to wait another month...
