Optimism for the Day

So I tried to make pita bread and everything went wrong. It took me 6 tries to get the yeast to bloom and then it did it poorly. I rolled it out into the perfect shapes and then Jared defaced every single one with his tiny fingers and unnecessary rolling. I yelled. So I scraped them and let them rise until they were soft again. I reshaped them and then forgot about them for a solid hour and a half. I knew at this point it probably wouldn't be picturesque pitas, but I'd already worked enough on the dough I just couldn't throw it out.
Needless to say, they didn't puff.

I was bummed, but just glad it was over.
When we were eating them with hummus this evening, I realized that I hadn't just failed at making pitas. I had, without even trying, made crackers for the first time!
Pretty cool, huh?

I love my job

I know I had a similar picture a few months ago, but I just couldn't pass by the pure joy in this picture.
I love what a do with my life right now. I love the two little people I spend my days with. I love their giggles and their logic and the way they need my cuddles when they cry. I love making up games and pretending. I love playing peek-a-boo the first two dozen times. I love seeing them discover new things in this world. I love hearing their screams from the next room!
Now, like any job, it is work. I wish the floor (and the table and the laundry) would clean itself and sometimes I can't stand being a playground set all day long and I do have a rough time being "on call" all of the time and being tugged at endlessly.
At the end of the day (when they are sleeping!), I feel satisfaction. We've got a nice slow rhythm to our lives that's flexible and can have just as much fun as we need. I hope I'm doing it right. Today, life is good.

Bath Paints

Now that winter is ending were doing the last few things on our indoor fun. So we did some bath paints (shaving cream and food dye). Messy fun with easy clean up!

Chores

I have started the transfer of my chores to the kids. Jared vacuumed for the first time. It was clearly a little unwieldy for him, but he wouldn't give up. It took him probably 10 minutes to vacuum half of our tiny living room and I couldn't be prouder!
