Lakeview Art Club
Towards the first of the year the PTO president brought up the idea of having me organize an after school art club for Lakeview. After the first of the year I felt like it would be a good time to get things organized and start signing kids up for classes . I wasn't sure what kind of response we would get from the students, but it turned out to be great. Classes are divided by grade level into three sessions (k-1) (2-3) (4-5). I was hoping to have around around 10 kids per session. Instead I have about 20 kids per session, and had to turn people away. We really didn't want cost to prohibit anyone from signing up so we managed to keep the cost at only $5 per student. Which was only possible thanks to the PTO pitching in some funds for supplies. So far it is going great, I hope it is something that lasts for quite a few years so all of the students that would like to participate get a chance.

Lakeview Wall Mural - 2009
This is a post about a wall that used to look like this..
The principal of my children's elementary school and I decided perhaps an update was in order. For teacher appreciation week last year we decided to paint a mural in it's place as a gift from the kids to the teachers. I drew up a design and did the painting - then the art teacher helped every child in the school put their hand print/thumbprint somewhere on the painting.
here it is in the beginning..
my daughter Lia (a kindergartner at the time) standing by the painting...her hand print is the magenta one in the middle of the brown flower! she was excited to have such a prominent spot!
the quote says "a teacher takes a hand, opens a mind, touches a heart and shapes the future"
a new mural over the doors to the school library is in the works for 2010 - stay tuned on that :)

it's actually not quite done in this picture, but getting fairly close.
this was a fun project, the kids were excited to take part in something that is now a permanent part of the school. They walk by it every day and love to point out where their hand print is.
