Ought to be happy, after all, mtech exams results not bad n manage to pass the citpm exam which i thought got no hope one... But when walking out of the campus, I suddenly feel that my steps becomes very heavy. Don't know why also...
Mixed feeling, maybe be cos i'm worry abt the future which is so bleak bah. Core unit not as easy to understand as intially thought... More work when I get back to office after my ict. Work is getting monotonous recently. Hopefully, the new module will offer some challenges. Right now, requirements still not clear cos users just added some stuff and yet to see the full requirements. Hard to estimate the man effort... ..

MTech Exam Results
Another post on the exam results... but this time round is my mtech sem 1 results. Quite surprise at my results cos didn't manage to finish the whole paper for my core and web services and yet results are much better than what I expected. Hopefully my CAP will remain at the current level...
One of my teammates rearrange the scores and was quite surprise at the ranking. If I'm not wrong, my team has the highest number of top scorers in the cohort. 5 of us score >= 4.00 and the highest scorer happen to be in my team too!
To quote F's words: "Actually you know what, each one in our team is different, so we're all willing to come to the middle ground. Teams with lots of similarities will be less willing to do so..."
Diversity is the way to Continuity...

CITPM Results
It might be a little late to post this since I got to know the results 2 weeks back. However, would like to post only when I got the result slip in my hand. Manage to pass the exam, which I would say is just plain lucky. 2 papers, total 8 hours. Definitely a drain on my energy level... Now left the enrollment process for the certification.
You just never know what life has in store for you. Was actually planning to take the exam next year, after I completed all my mtech's core modules. But alas, was sent for the course in April, fully sponsored by my company.

我看<<华文智多星>>
观看了几集的<<华文智多星>>, 不禁感慨万千. 几乎所有的参赛中学都有外国学生, 难道本地土生土长的学子就如此不堪吗? 实在令人忧心... 到底是否是我国的中文教育失败了呢, 还是校方都认为来自神州大地的学生的中文程度就一定胜过地头蛇? 长久下去, 恐怕本地的中文舞台将出现青黄不接的显现. 说不定到时候唱戏口中传出来的都尽是些我们听不懂的音调.
节目中不难看到口出狂言之辈. 口才虽好, 但也让人见识到了外来人材刚愎自用之处. 自信虽好, 但自大却是为人生失败而埋下的一大伏笔.
观赏<<华文智多星>>时, 也不难发现台湾节目对本地学生的影响. 比赛的其中一环是要参赛者们把中英混杂的句子中的英文部份翻译成适当的中文词汇, 并且经翻译的句子必须流畅. 其中有一所中学的参赛学生就把 "show" (名词, noun) 翻译成"秀". 其实 "秀" 也就只有台湾才普遍被如此使用.
节目的出发点是值得嘉许的. 但愿它能起着抛砖引玉的效果, 鼓励更多的国人把中文学好.

Spacious Office
Went to my friend's office today. One word to describe it: Spacious! Table for each staff is big. Large spaces between tables. I've never seen such kind of arrangement in Singapore before esp considering that land is expensive (Not too sure of the rent there, but I'm sure it's not cheap since it's located somewhere near the city area). Unlike offices that I've went to before (both SME and MNC), there is no feeling of being packed in the sardine can... Maybe that's how creativity juice will flow better... more efficient coding bah...
This reminds of the various articles wrote by Joel in Joel on Software. Maybe her big boss was a coder and understand the impact the environment has on s/w designers bah!

Back to School
Yesterday is the 1st day of school. Yes, I'm back to school again for further studies. The only difference being that I'm taking this as a part time course.
Well, the 1st day is quite easy to pass. Basically, it's all the various introductions: electives, teaching staff, environment (facilities) etc. Briefings on the various issues such as those governing IT equipments usage, main door opening hours, dos and don'ts etc... Met up with the my project team. Got to stick with them through all the think and thin for the next 2 years. Actually, my team is a mini UN, conprises of people from Singapore, China, India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Philippines. I'm the only local in my team. Never work in such a diverse team before, but guess will learn a lot from them...
Day 2 is a bit taxing. Lecture follow by workshop, then it's lecture, workshop, lecture workshop... From the process modelling workshop, I learn the need to look at the broader picture. Need to put myself in the shoe of the PM and determine how he's going to execute the process...
Need to meet the Zzz monster liao... Till next time...

Enter the Wireless Realm
Finally setup a wireless network at home. Actually, got this 2Wire 2700HG from Singnet about 2 years ago. But didn't want to setup the wireless network. Not even want to use it when my Aztech modem is incompatiable with Windows Vista... So it just sit down there idling (not collecting dust hor cos it's still under wraps)...
What got me to set it up? All be cos of Touchie lor. Wana to be able to surf the Net when bro is using my PC. Easy to setup but it lacks some features that I would like to have (eg. MAC filtering). BTW, Singnet is no longer giving out this device since it's out of production. Read in some forums that Singnet is now giving out the 2701.
Connecting Touchie to 2700 is quite easy too. I key in my network's name (since I disable SSID broadcast and Touchie did detect a nameless network), choose WPA and the password is actually the WPA key!
BTW, those with ipod Touch, this website is good: http://ipodtouchtricks.blogspot.com/ Lots of ways to maximise your ipod Touch's potential.

Youtube on Touchie
Was watching youtube on Touchie just now. To my amazement, the video looks much better than on my PC's LCD monitor. Not only does it looks brighter, more importantly, the video is much sharper. Maybe it's because when watching on the PC, the video is not played at its native resolution. Have to try out a few more videos to ascertain this...
Surfing the net with Touchie is simple but not without pains. I had problem with the virtual keyboard. Keep on touching the wrong key (esp those at the extreme left). Maybe it's my fat finger bah. Safari mobile is quite fast at rendering the page. Hope that Apple will release a new version with Flash support. It would be good if Apple release a Java VM too.

Touchie
Went down to Singapore Post Center today to collect my ipod Touch. Well, it's actually a free gift by Singnet for recontracting with them for another 2 years.
Didn't really play around with it but so far it seems not bad. Things work as it's supposed to... Although we can charge the ipod with USB, it would be better if Apple can supply the AC charger FOC. Can you imagine taking this ipod with you to overseas and must find a PC in order to recharge the battery? Of cos Apple do sell the AC charger but it cost >SGD50.
Was thinking of playing around with cover flow, but realised that it's not the same as the album art. So no fancy covers to flow across the screen...
For those thinking of playing videos on ipod touch, do note that it can only accept MP4 files (similar to PSP). This means that we will need to convert the various video files to MP4. The one that I'm using and think is the best is winmenc. This is really a superb, idiot proof converter. You choose the video file and pick a profile (pre-set configuration) and it's done. Of cos you can customise the settings and save it as a new profile. The advantages of winmenc are it can convert a wide range of media including rmvb, avi, mpeg etc. Most other softwares can convert avi with ease, however they will usually have problems with rmvb. BTW, winmenc is FOC
Read that certain batches of ipod touch (those before week 38) suffer from a negative black LCD screen problem. So it's naturally that I'm worried that mine is part of the defective batch. However, so far it seems to be ok. Must find some videos with quite dark areas, then will be easier to detect if the problem is present.
BTW, my Touchie's firmware is 1.1.1. This means that I do not need to downgrade the firmware in order to jailbreak it. However, jailbreaking is not in my plans. Waiting for apple to release the SDK, then there will be more 3rd parties' software for my Touchie. Maybe next time can also try writing simple utilities for Touchie too...
Will try out the Wi-Fi capability tomorrow a a wireless@sg hotspot.
