Aimless Writing

Kinda of feeling tired nowadays... Doesn't seem to have any drive to do anything. Maybe it's all the news that's coming in... People less qualified than you, but receive treatment that's on par with you. How would you feel? Life's unfair right? of cos it is. Mum will tell you to look at your fingers - none of them is of equal length.

The only thing that I'm happy is when I received the notice that I got admitted to ISS. But the happiness is short-lived. 3 people applied, 2 got in... But AMSpore rejected the offer. And so I'm the only one left. Not that easy to get in though, so maybe that's why I still continue to carry on. Hopefully, life will become more enriched and learn more things that I'm not able to do so now. Got people say I should go for certs instead of master... Some say this paper is worthless... 2.5 years is a long time... Will I still be where I'm am by that time? I don't know. Environment good, boss good.. but is that sufficient? It all bottoms down to what one wants in life... I'm not very ambitious, but at least expect to be treated fairly. But guess only if I live in fairyland...

Maybe if I didn't get that place, I can be more carefree.... Going around the various kingdoms... People leaving here and there often set me wondering what am I doing...

Words are cheap (maybe FOC), actions are rare. When someone says "I want everyone to be xxx", but the policies don't really make us xxx.... "I can help you guys to get things done quickly, scanned it and email to you" came from her mouth. But by the time, things reaches you, the eggs would have hatched. Lots of things seem to be solely PR. NATO is the word. Sincerity came from the depth of one's heart, not the mouth... Privileges should be extended to all and not just a group of people. Biased practice will only set to alienate those who bring in the bread and butter. Don't forget, it's because of them and that's why you are here. Put yourself in their shoes. How would you feel? People high up look at the overall picture, but should still have grassroot sense. Understand the ground. Ever wonder why people are rushing out of the gate? Do not treat it as a norm even if it's happening for decades... Humans hate changes and uncertainties. If not for the push factors, who would want to battle with the wild...

Last Thursday, HF said something which really made my day. Never know that she thinks so highly of me LOL... cos it really surprised me as I don't even think that I'm good at all... Wonder how she had that impression as we had never did any CS module before...

Oh dear... why am I writing all these rubbish? Even I also do not know... No links between sentences... Heart flows like water.. aimlessly everywhere...

NDP Encore on Channel 8

After watching the encore (repeat telecast) of the NDP 07 on Channel 8 just now, left me feeling puzzled... Let me tell you why:
  • On the day of the actual parade, I saw the curtain of fire from Sheares Bridge when the commandos were rappelling down the rope. I even recorded it as video on my camera lor. But hor during this encore, it's a perfect scene. There's no pyrotechnics at all throughout the commandos' performance. It really set me to wonder if this is really part of the actual parade, or is just a cut-and-paste from the preview. According to a report on 12th Aug 2007's Sunday Times Pg 8, it was reported in an article: "And except for a few timing hitches - the curtain of fire from Benjamin Sheares bridge overlapping with rappelling commandos - it went like clock-work".
  • In this encore, the curtain of fire appears when a ship appears from beneath the bridge. I dun remember seeing this on the ground. But as I dun have any photo/evidence... I can't say anything much.

I did not watch/record the actual telecast on TV as I was on the ground and believe that the encore will just simply be the same as the one telecasted on the actual day. But now, I start to have doubts. It's perfectly ok to cut some of the actual scenes off in order to fit into the time slot (though this might give rise to some mis-understanding/ misconception as evidented in the BBC editing on a show featuring the British Queen). What I feel is totally unacceptable is to cut and paste something from somewhere else, and yet did not inform the viewers. Maybe the broadcaster did not expect there will be someone as bo liao as me bah.

Another question: Are encores used to cover up and correct any mistakes made?

mythFire in Coma or is he Dead???

My mythFire is dead. When half way through in waking him up, suddenly, I heard a loud noise and the whole house plunged into darkness. The circuit breaker has tripped... After everything is back in order, I failed to wake him in up... He laid there motionless, eyes won't blink, heart won't beat. Can't feel any breathing at all... Is he dead? Or just fall into coma??? Must resurrect him one day, for all my memories are inside mythFire's memory...

Luckily, mythSat came to my rescue...

(to be continued...)

NDP '07

Went to the NDP at Marina Bay today. I'm part of history sia cos this is the first time NDP is being held at Marina Bay, on the world largest floating platform. Also this is the first time I went to the actual parade ground....

After leaving CityLink, I headed towards Marina SQ, expecting to see a lot of direction signs to the entry point... But I guess, there is a lot of improvement to be done in this area. I can only see two signs: 1 at the escalator after you left CityLink and another almost parallel to Starbucks (telling you to turn at Starbucks!!!) and it's hidden at the far left side of the corridor.

Went in at around 4pm cos the ticket said be seated before 4.45.... But it turns out that they have lots of performances before 4pm... Anyway, admission and security check is quite fast, except for the goodie bag collection point... It's quite messy there, no order at all.. You can see people jumping queue, cluster themselves at the collection point. Hey, why can't they just queue up properly? There will always be enough goodie bags to go around, no need to scare will be out of stock mah. Maybe next year, the organiser should enforce a 1-man lane at the goodie collection point.

One thing I don't understand is how people are choosing their seats at the grand stand. They just simply cannot make up their mind on where they want to seat and in the end, causes a lot of trouble for the people behind, resulting in a jam. Oh ya, the uncle sitting beside me is ultra enthu!!! Enthu at flagging the flag... Enthu at shouting out... Enthu at taking photos... Enthu at donating to ComChest. ComChest donation boxes will be passed from another side, but he so enthu that he drop his dollar into another box meant for another column. His companion (think his wife) even chide him, telling him dun need to be so gan chiong, the box will be passed around and reach him eventually...

The performance is great, kudos to those who put in the hardwork and time to bring us the unique performances. The only thing I'm disappointed at is the one whereby the commandos glided down Sheares Bridge. The pyrotechnics display totally cause the commandos to be invisible. The pyrotechnics is shown when before the commandos glide down and still showing even after the commandos have achieved their mission. I really wonder if there's any cockup in the timing as the pyrotechnics really The defence segment is also quite chaotic and messy to me as 1 segment follow another within 1 sec, maybe even overlap each another, have to seach high and low for the next part of the segment sia. I know the planner dun wan any gap, in order to maintain the tight and fast pace atmosphere, in order to let us have a feel of urgency. But to me, it's just too fast for me to enjoy.

The rest of the performance is great as I've said. The most special of all is the water screen behind the stage, whereby different images are being created. Make full use of the fire and water. But hor, most of the time, I duno what's the meaning of the show, can only seat back and enjoy the dance nia. Cos, different from watching from TV, there's no live commentary. Your only source of info is inside the info booklet given out at the goodie bag collection point.

The fireworks is great, but still not as beautiful as the one that I saw in HK disneyland. This year a bit different cos you can see some some ones being let off from those commercial buildings. The songs part is abit strange. The orchestra played a Chinese piece, but it's Jacky Cheung's No link leh. The choir also quite 废, think they only sing 1 piece nia (Stand Up for Singapore). Then some songs like Di Tanjong Katong, Chan Mali Chan etc sound so unfamilar cos they did a remix and add in new elements (think is R&B or hip-hop). No wonder I dun feel anything when Juz B and Sheikh Haikel were singing it, just simply feel that duno what kind of rubbish they were singing! Childhood memory wiped out for the sake of introducing new elements. No wonder we have to keep on searching for a Singapore Culture, cos they were wiped out when there's new things. Sorry, I'm just simply too old fashioned liao. Things that accompanied me in my childhood should be left intact. Memories are not meant to be insulted... The Dim Sum Dollies' performance is really great. "Singapore Town" still sound like what it used to be, though with some updates like reference to Esplanade. With doses of Singlish here and there, it's easily the most entertaining performance before the parade marched in. Really please when they get Kit Chan in to sing at the Earth segment. Her voice is really nice. Too bad, they didn't get her to sing "home"...

When "We are Singapore" is sung, and the pledge is taken, it truly make me feel proud to be a Singaporean... Truly 感动... To see everyone of us so united together... I guess you can only feel it at the actual ground itself...

This post seem rather negative hor, but I guess it's just a reflection of : "People only see and remember the bad things; Whatever that were done right is expected"...

28072007: Hong Kong Day 02: Chi Lin, Kwun Tong, Harbour City, Symphony of Lights, Lady's Street

Had dim sum at 鸿星 for breakfast. Ate my first and only one roast pigeon there. Not much meat, but at least I tried it before. Nothing fantastic about pigeon meat... The dim sum quite interesting. The Siu Mai dun look like our normal siu mai. The cute penguin design dim sum only look cute on the menu. The final product is a great difference sia. AL ordered the 粉条, and it turns out to be the joke of the meal. Bird Nest egg tart so so only... FR said the bird nest totally spoil the egg tart taste, which I totally agree.

After breakfast, we set off for Chi Lin Nunnery at Diamond Hill. TY need to get some stuff there for his mum. Accordingly, this nunnery is based on Tang Dynasty design, not a single nail is used in the building's structure. Today is the 15th day of the lunar calendar, but surprisingly, there aren't many devotees there. Only a couple of people were there. In fact, this is the least crowded place in all places i been to in HK. We are suppose to find tranquility here, but I can't seem to find peace at all... maybe is be cos of the terrible weather bah. It's super hot and I'm sweating like mad. One thing I discovered while see see look look is the spikes on the horizontal beam. My only conclusion is: to prevent birds from resting there and dirty the place.

Next stop is stopping at Kwun Tong. we went to the factory outlets like Adidas, Nike, New Balance etc. Wanted to buy sandles, but can't seem to find a suitable one. The shoes there also dun have my size (sold out). In the end, for the whole trip, I'm the only one who left HK without buying any footwear. Another observation while in HK: people dun like to wear sandles; Most (almost everyone) are wearing shoes. Even shops don't like to sell sandles.

Had dinner eating 烧腊, got goose, chicken, veg, 炖汤 etc. Only HK$47 per person. Taste good, but the only complain is the food is too salty. In fact most of our meals in HK are too salty for us. Make us feel thirsty and got to drink lots of water.

Harbour City is a super big shopping maze. Lots of upmarket shops => expensive stuff. Left for Avenue of Star at around 7.30pm to watch the Symphony of Lights. Tonight is a special night as there will be fireworks display to celebrate 10th year of the Return of HK to China. We waited patiently for the clock to strike 8 o'clock. But hor, when the show was about to start, an idiotic ferry cruise appear from nowhere, with tourist on board and came very close to the shore. This is the harbour cruise ferry. This stupid cruise totally block our view of the fireworks. I can even hear people swearing at it. It can actually stay far away from the shore and the people on board can still see the fireworks, while those on shore can enjoy too. Isn't that better? But heng, after a few minutes, the cruise left and duno sail to where. Nobody is interested in that ship at all... While our attention is on the fireworks, the laser display carry on. I will take a peek whenever the fireworks took a brief rest. The laser show dun seem to be as good as it was advertised. Maybe got fireworks, so they scale back on the laser show bah.

After the show, we decide to proceed on to Avenue of Star to look look see see. But alas, it's ultra crowded, with tourist from the various tour groups. Gave up the idea and went to Lady's Street Night Market instead. Same thing as Temple Street, nothing much interesting. Both night markets are selling roughly the same thing. The most interesting thing is, I was looking at a chess set with the 3 Kingdom theme. The stall owner quote me HK$280. I told her see see nia.. Then she auto cut the price and say I can have it for HK$200. But I didn't buy as I felt it's meaningless to buy. I dun play chess and neither am I interested to use it for decoration purpose.

Jing Wen recommended that I must try the 榴莲飘香 and 榴莲班战 at 发记甜品(Soy Street). Gosh, it's ultra nice. The durian meat, is 1 piece, 1 piece kind. Quite surprise that HK people actually eat durian. Initially thought that they hate durian smell. They even sell durian in the supermarket, both in unopened form as well as packed in syroform boxes.

TY was buying some medical products from a medical hall (Think it's the one next to 发记) and he was cheated!!!! 1. The boss tried to cheat him by quoting a higher price than his assistant, by claiming that the cheaper one is made in China, while the more expensive one is made in HK. But both packaging are identical lor. 2. The shop dun carry It only have another brand. The boss cover the brand and show it to TY. TY only saw the word 平安膏, so he thought it's the one he wanted. 3. TY saw the boss warp up the product listed in point 1 but when back in Ashley Apartment, it turns out to be some 枫油. TY paid duno how much for things that he dun need at all and he was hopping mad. Lessons Learned:
  1. Don't buy medical products from those medical halls. Buy only from branded medical halls.
  2. Don't let them wrap up anything. Who knows when they will 偷龙转凤.
  3. Once you discover the shop owner is dishonest, dun buy anything from him.
Continue to walk around after the desert (feeling damm full lor... lol). And to my surprise, I found a shop selling Taiwanese product. I rush in and bought the 胡椒饼 (taste terrible compared to the one I had while in Taiwan). I search around and manage to find something that I lust for :绿茶南瓜子酥!!!! The packaging is different the one I bought last year in Taiwan, but the taste is still as great as ever. Now I regret buying only 2 jar (HK$45 per jar). Should buy more!!!

27072007: Hong Kong Day 01: CWB, Peak, Temple Street

As usual, had breakfast at Terminal 1 before boarding the plane. Only difference is this time it's BK instead of Mac.

06.40: Jetstar 3K 691 depart for HK.
10.50: Reach HK International Airport
11.40: Cleared custom

When we alight from the plane, we got to board a vehicle to take us to the main terminal. It's a long long queue at the customs; took us almost an hour to clear it. The stupid Taiwan's customs go and circle the country code in my passport last year and cause me some trouble at HK customs. The HK custom officer asked me why it was circled. How the heck I know why the Taiwan customs officer
hand itchy ...

The transport booking website said book 20min in prior, so we tried to book one when at the airport, but the operator told us no available vehicle, so in the end we took a cab. Meter says HK$290+, but we got to pay for the luggage as well, so in the end it cost us more than HK$300. Our accommodation is at Ashley Apartments. It's still being renovated after being taken over by the asscot group. And in fact, we are the first occupants in my room!

Left the luggage in the lobby while we went to the nearby shop for lunch. Had this 过桥面线 and add in extra pig blood (HK$34+ HK$4). Super big bowl. Very fulling....

After checking in to our room, we left for Causeway Bay. FR began the first buy at Fashion Walk. Stuff at CWB are relatively expansive sia! When outside one particular shop (can't remember the mall's name, but it's opp Sogo), I tried to take a photo of an interesting thingy. The shop owner stopped me and my friends overheard him complaining to the security guard. No wonder, how come got a security
guard seems to be following us... Anyway, that guy's attitude also sucks. FR asked him for the price of something, he replied in a rather rude manner, but hor when serving an ang mo lady, he appear v. enthu. Pure discrimination. Luckily, he's the isolated case we encountered in HK.

Nothing to buy in Sogo, only bought some drinks from the supermarket area. TY bought some Hokkaido chocolate. After that we proceed to the Peak. According to official sources, we have to goto Central MTR and from there either take a bus/ walk to the Lower Peak Tram Terminus. Being recee trained, we look at the map and figured out that it might be easier to walk there if we alight at Admiralty MTR. And yes, we are right! The recee gut feeling never fail us!

When we reach the Tram Terminus at around 5.55pm, we were shocked. So many people queuing up to purchase the tram tickets... But the heng thing is we are going to Mdm Tussaud's Wax Museum as well, so we can join the other queue to buy both the tram tickets and Mdm Tussaud's Wax Museum tickets combo (HK$130). This queue is v. short, only 1 person in front of us. The 7min ride up to the peak is quite fast. Sit on the right side is the advice that was stated on the website. But hor, nothing much cos, you can see the same thing when on the top of the peak.

Went up all the way to the observatory gallery to have a bird eye view of IFC, area around Victoria Harbour and TST. Crowd is moderate. Feeling hungry and on a budget too, so we went to Mac for dinner (located inside The Peak Gallery). The value meal is cheaper than in Singapore only HK$24.80 (~S$4.80). After dinner, we went on to explore Mdm Tussaud's Wax Museum. Don't recognise a number of the wax figures there... but anyway, it took us relatively a short time to cover the whole area. The museum is quite crowed compared to the last time TY went, so quite restraint even when trying out those funny pose. No way, am I going to post those pic here. Finally, we went up to the observatory gallery again to take a look at the nightview of HK. Beautiful. But the place now is super packed! Manage to take some photos, but effect not good...

Suddenly a thought came to my mind. The Singapore authorities are also thinking of lighting up our skyline to make us a dynamic city. But hey, isn't saving gaia the in thing now? How much energy is spent (wasted) in lighting up the city? Also, Singapore aims to increase the population to 6.5 million people. But during my short stay in HK, I already experience the squeeze of having 6.x million people. People and people.. they are all over the place in HK. It easily make me feel frustrated and breathless. Can our little red dot really accommodate so many people? The large population has trained people to rush for everything. The most obvious is how people (both young and old) rush for seats in the MTR (much faster than what I saw in Singapore; now who say Kiasuism is a Singapore culture). People can knock into you without apologising. They will try to squeeze between you without saying "excuse me". The only polite people are those who worked in the shopping malls/ retail shops. They greet you when you enter or leave (even if you did not buy anything)

Next stop is the Temple Street night market. Nothing special, same as the night market in KL. Saw a stall owner and a Jap (or is it Korean) negotiating. When the negotiation failed, the stall owner just waved that guy away. Was actually looking out for some special 小吃, but did not find anything... Went to 许留山for some desert. But the shop is full house, so we opt for take away eat it while we walk back to Ashley Apartment. But in the end, gave up the idea and took a cab back as the journey is too long and we are tired...

Hong Kong, here I come....

Going to leave for Hong Kong in less than 7 hours time. Hopefully weather will be good there cos a few days ago, the news reported that a few people died there due to heat injuries... Must water parade more often. A camel also need to drink right? Will update on the places I go when I'm back. Special thanks to Huiyi, Huifang and Jing Wen for all your recommendations!

Transformers

Went to Vivo on fri to watch transformer with the gang. Too bad ah lee can't join us at the last min... Well quite disappointed at the movie. Not be cos it's bad or whatsoever, just that i can't seem to find my childhood. For kids who never watch the classic transformers cartoon series on tv, I think they will enjoy the movie. But for the rest of us who grew up watching transformers, this movie is definitely a turn off.

I want to hear the original cartoon's theme song. But dun seem to hear it at all. Transformers without the original theme song is not Transformers at all! Moreover, Bumblebee should be a Volkswagen Beetle. But Michael Bay turned it into a Chevrolet! This is really an unforgiving thing. And the healer of the autobots should be an ambulance, but in the movie, I dun even know what kind of vehicle it is. The fighting scenes are ridiculously messy and confusing. You can't even see clearly the fighting moves.

People of my age or category really just want to find back our long lost childhood memories. The story can be crappier, but I dun care. I just want the original Transformer back, whereby there's not so much violence. Maybe that's why kids of our days are more 乖 when there's not so much violence in the shows they watched.

Will there be a Transformers 2? I think there might be one, starting with the decepticons building a undersea base. Will I watch it? I duno, but hopefully it will adhere more to the original story.

NDP Tickets 2007

Never know I'm so lucky. So few tickets also can let me ballot teo. Initially dun bear too much hope one since left only 1 day, yet still didn't receive any call from the organiser. But hor, they called me on the last day... Ah B got his call on the first day of the results lor, but too bad he's going overseas so he's going to miss the historical event. Think he gave it to his cousins...

Went to marina sq just now to collect the tickets. Saw the first booth is for preview. Only the second booth is for the actual parade. I started to suspect if i got hear wrongly or not. Is mine for the actual parade or just the preview. But it turns out to be a false alarm. I gotten the seats for the Green sector. It's the one on the leftmost when facing the floating platform. Cool.. this shall be my first time watching the parade on the actual ground.

Gathering@Somerset Area

Finally, another outing with some of the cblc people on fri. Guess what, chewy arrives not only on time but much earlier than the agreed time. If my memory did not fail me, this seem to be the first time, so really quite surprising. But luckily she arrived early to buy Ocean13 tix, else confirm no seats for us.... Since the show is at 9.30, so we went off to Vilage for dinner.

We order quite a lot of food for 6 people (excl chewy cos she already ate before she came, so she had only a bowl of salad). We had pork knuckle, beef, lamb shoulder, seafood baked rice, softshell crab, calamari, creeps, fried vegs etc. Stay there for around 2hrs, chit chat. Had great laughts. Just like back to the olden days, except that we all, but 1, had already graduated. The final bill is only $123 (nice number hor?) cos got 20% discount mah (special discount for limited period).

Then off to cine to watch Ocean13. Show not bad, but if compared to Ocean11, think i still prefer the later. Cos the plan in Ocean13 is too smooth sailing liao, practically no setback lor, so...... And Matt Damon looks interesting when he tried to seduce a woman of a certain age. Next time, if you find a token at any jackpot machine, use it at that machine. Who knows what you will be getting.... hehehehe

After the show, still early, so went to PS cafe at Dempsey Road. I had the Bloody Berry (not Mary hor). Well basically, i think it's just some berry juice (with berry residues) + lots of ice. Further chit chating, with gerard talking more abt his Europe trip. Then we also teach chewy some real life knowledge. Really have to 佩服 gerard for thinking up the analogy of the target board and the types of guns. But poor gerard suffers from some skin problem. Learnt from his blog that it could be due to the nicke in euro coins. Hope he will recover soon.

Hey guys, we should have made this into a monthly event, say every last/first fri of the month sia. Talk cock sing song really makes the day....

40 more days to Fragrant Harbour....

Introducing mythIllum

mythIllum has formally enter my life. From today on, she will provide me with all the brightness.. She will be my window to the world of information...

mythIllum is actually my new LCD monitor, to be exact my first LCD monitor. Saw her at PC show on Thurs, but I hesitated, waiting to see if her price will drop on Sat. But alas, when I reach Suntec on Sat, all her sisters were gone from the show. They have found their owner. I have to wait patiently for about 1.5hr for her arrival to the show hall. In fact, she's among the last 3 member left in the family. Compared to other brands/ models, I find mythIllum the most attractive... Below are her specs:

Family Name: LG
Given Name : L196WTQ
Place of Birth: Korea
Size: 19" Widescreen
Response Time: 2ms
Contrast: 3000:1 (Hardware-based, not dynamic)
Viewing Angle: 170°/170°
Input: D-sub,DVI-D
Resolution: 1440×900
Colour: Front frame is black while stand and back is white.
Special Features: HDCP support + ez Zooming + F-Engine

So what's my experience with it? Well, it's a mixture of good and bad.

Pro:
  • Screen looks bigger, good for more stuff on desktop
  • Reading comic is superb! No need to scroll left and right
  • Brighter screen.
  • Cosmetically better than my old CRT of cos. The glossy finish is a plus with that blue LED ON light but I still feel it loses out to a particular Samsung model.
  • Way of the future cos Vista supports Widescreen natively.
  • Webpage do not need to be scrolled to either left or right, back and fro.
  • 16:9 videos looks good. No more large chunks of black bar at the top and bottom

Cons
  • Graphics appear strange when playing DOTA cos Warcraft does not support WS format resolution. But hor newly released games will support WS natively, so this is a good future investment.
  • Certain webpages will be rendered strangely
  • The monitor can only be tilted 15° back and 5° front. All the LCD monitors that I used before in SoC and at work allows me to tilt far more than this. But still this is better than some brands/models that do not allow tilting at all.
  • Height of the stand is fixed. The monitor at my workplace can have its height adjusted so of cos I would prefer to have it on mythIllum...
My desk is too untidy to take pictures of mythIllum, so I will just post those that I found online:

For more details, you can read this review. It is in Chinese as I failed to find a English medium one.

Super Summary: 4 months of dai ji in 1 post

It's has been more than 4 months since I last wrote my blog. Quite a few of my friends asked why I've stop blogging. Actually, I also have no answer. Just feeling a bit nuan to sit in front of my pc and do all the typing nia.

So what have I been doing for the past few months? For a normal person leading a normal life, there's nothing extra-ordinary. Life still goes on as per normal. But of cos there are some peaks here and there. Too much excitment will give you heart attack one (both on my wallet and the biological organ).

Jan - Present:
Most of my nights are spent dota-ing with my colleagues. Sometimes, I can play quite well, but most of the time, I'm just a free frag... waiting to be owned by others. Dota has taught me a very important lesson: Tell the untruth only when you are confident of it.

Feb 2 - 4:
Went Genting with my friends. We took 草原 bus there, quite a nice coach. Sit at the front row somemore... On the first day, we played almost all the rides in the outdoor theme park. Things like the flying coaster, top gun might look scary at first, but they were really fun. Like the wonderful experience when dropping from great heights. Only complain is each trip is too short. 1 thing I find quite strange is people are screaming at the top of their voice, but I didn't scream at all. Duno why also...

Luckily we went to the outdoor theme park on Friday cos on Sat, there will be much more people and the park will be very crowded. Confirm will take a much longer time to Q for the rides. We also went to the 4D cinema, really regret going in cos it's nothing special at all. Can even see doubles of the dragon. According to EK, the one in HK's disneyland is much better.... When you are in Genting, you must go gambling. That seems to be the unspoken rule. Try our luck that the 买大小 table. This is the easiest game to play for a novice like me. No need to use any brain, almost 50% chance of winning (unless you damn suay lah). That night, I made a 40% profit over my capital. Don't wow cos it's only RM20... I only play for fun nia, actually prepared to lose everything single cent of my capital. In fact play until quite bored so just show hand lor.. thinking if lost then can go back and sleep. Who knows I actually won! As a non-risk taker, I take my winnings and leave... afterall none of my friends who had gambled there before had ever won, so I shall not be greedy.

2nd day is just roaming around to the midhill. Took the cable car down (Another 1st for me).. along the way can see the forest and the various deco such as the tigers statues etc. Really awesome to look at the trees from top. With the mist/clouds linggering around in the air... the view only opens up as the cable car approaches... You can hardly see the cable car just before or after you... You feel as though you are the only one that exists in this out of the world place (of cos + those people in the same car as you lor). It was drizzling and you can feel the raining hitting your face. Wonderful feeling... cold and refresh... At the mid hill, we went to visit the Amazing Ten Animal Kingdom at the Skyway Complex. It's a new attraction and we spent quite some time there, examining the animals there. Think the place is not fully done up yet, some of the animals were wrongly labelled. And reading the description (not every animal has the description) will give one the impression that they were printed from the wikipedia (and on recycled paper). Some of the animals there were quite rare, some were from the deep deep sea. For more info pls read it here: http://www.nst.com.my/Weekly/Travel/article/FeatureStory/20070320105330/Article/index_html and http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2006/12/22/southneast/16377509&sec=southneast. After that is our local produce shopping trip. Bought some 手信 back from the shops at the skyway complex. Then it's a trip home back to the hotel.

Last Day:
Last day of cos is home sweet home lor. This time we took the 草原 bus again. But we opted for the upgraded version(think is $15 more), the one with personal entertainement system. Overall, it's more spacious with more legroom. The PES is not really fantastic, but the seat and legroom is definitely worth the money.

Food:
1st day breakfast: buffet... Saw on the brochure that it has middle-east food, that's why we chose it (in case dun like it can still eat other stuff)... but too bad didn't manage to find any middle-easten food. Maybe is be cos the resturant is under renovation, so part of it is closed off bah.

1st day lunch: Quite full so skipped

1st day dinner: Also buffet again at this chinese resturant. Food-wise not too fantastic, ok nia. Maybe be cos it's located inside the casino bah, so it's main aim is to fill the gamblers' stomach and dun let them stay too long so that they can go back to the gambling table bah...

2nd day breakfast: skipped cos we sleep until almost noon.
2nd day lunch: Some noodle stall...
2nd day dinner: New Orleans. Western food. We had steak. Not bad and it's quiet cheap. You can never had it in Singapore at that kind of price. Around RM25 for the steak, soup, salad and drink.

3rd day breakfast: skipped again
3rd day lunch: Had porkchop rice at this Hainanese restaurant. Also ordered the pig stomach soup. But still think my mum's version is better. Afterall her's is the double-boiled type. Yummy..slup.. thinking of it makes me hungry...

The most important event: My friends went to coffee bean and bought me a cake to celebrate my birthday!!! Thank you my friends!

Feb 18:
LNY is here. The same thing is repeating itself. Same question asked every year. Really feel abit sianz. Those people you hardly know, yet.... it's so artificial... As I grows up, I began to dislike LNY bit by bit. All the shops closes; nowhere good to go...

Mar 8:
Reached home, saw a letter from SPH, addressed to me. I have no dealings with SPH, why did they send me a letter? Could it be.... Eagerly, I open the letter and instantly I feel that I'm the happiest man on Earth!!! I won a copy of Windows Vista in the Digital Life-Microsoft promotion. Earlier in the day I was still talking about the 100 copies of vista home that MS is selling at $99 at Suntech (IT show 2007) and that I have no chance to buy it at that price. But who knows, Lady Luck is smiling at me.

Mar 9:
Went to Safra Yishun for some kind of NSman dialog session. After that went to SPH Center at Toa Payoh North to collect my prize: Windows Vista Ultimate (retail price >$600). Installed Vista in mythFire, played with it for a few days, then go back to my XP (I installed vista on another HDD). Why I go back to XP? Cos there are not enough apps for vista. Think will fully migrate over in Dec bah or when MS stopped supporting XP.

May 1:
Went Treetop walk at Mac Reservoir together with GTO, Daren, hello, lalala, everburn, kevin. It's a 11km trip (in and out) Think we took less than 2.5hr to complete the whole thingy. Along the way, we keep on overtaking people. When walking on the bridge, I don't really find the view awesome. Instead, I'm walking with fear. The bridge feels slippery (maybe be cos of the rain bah). When at the middle, the bridge is shaking. I'm not afraid of height, just afraid of the instability feeling.

May 4:
Celebrate Mike's birthday at Minds Cafe in selegie area. 1 set meal (main course + drink + soup of the day + dessert) + 2hrs boardgame cost us $15+ each. Lingz calculated that altogether we played 4 different kind of games. After the game, we headed for the arcade to play pool (initially wanted to go kbox one, but duno why change battleground). Most of us were playing pool while lingz, wl and chewy + me were chit chatting in the foodcourt area. We talk about a lot of things, different topics etc. Then suddenly, they all took aim at me, asking me why I'm still single and all offerred me tips and tricks on getting a gf. Thank you gals. I appreciated your efforts. But i believe that when 缘分 is here, she will appear. No need to rush. Afterall, I enjoy my carefree life... no need to report to anyone... free and easy. Maybe I'm not ready for a relationship bah that's why didn't actively go out to look for one. The only time I wish I had that special someone with me is when I see couples together...

May 7 - 10:
1 whole week without Dota! Lucky no withdrawal symptoms developed...

Reflections

2006... a year that comes and gone just like that. It's year of happenings both locally and aboard, both concerning me and none of my business. Maybe it's time to do some recollections of my past 1 year and learn some useful lessons.

2006, an important year cos it's a year where I say bye bye to my formal education. HYP took up a substantial amount of my time ine first few months of 2006. Coding and coding, thinking how to work around a problem th (or constrain). Thankfully that I have my HYP mate, ZQ, with me. He did a lot of the underlaying mechanism that makes it possible for the system to communicate with each another across the network. It's pretty amazing that we can get the whole middleware system, ported over from J2SE to J2ME within 4 months.

My term at cblc has also ended and this mark the end of my 4 years of time at cblc. Really feel sad to leave the place as I spent most of my happiest moments at NUS in cblc. I always say that I will not remember anything that got to do with SoC or NUS more than my eca. Friendships are forged not becos of the happy time you spent together, not becos you all share the same workload, but becos you all go through the same shit and sweat together and in the process help one another. There may be disagreements at times, but it's important to see others' point of views. It's the tolerance and trust that you have for one another. It's a common aim and sense of mission that you all share.

Speaking of friends, I remember of my friends said that never ever mix your different groups of friends together cos that spell disaster! Well, for him, it's not so bad cos it only facilitates exchange of intelligence. But sometimes, different groups of friends tend to have different cultures. Surprising huh that a person can have many different cultures hahaha. If birds of the same feather flock together, then a person must have many different kind of feathers..hahahaahaha. Ok, back to the topic. When 2 groups of people are mixed together, definitely they will not understand each other and might not be able to stand each other's behaviour. Well, that's not really a problem. The serious thing comes only when someone badmouth another person from the other group in front of their common friend. This is quite serious as personally I feel that it means a lack of respect for their common friend. Till now, I'm glad to say that none of my friends belong to this category. Just a few hours of getting together do not give you the right to do so, unless that person did something really bad, something that against the humanity, somethings that against the social norm (eg. killings, stealing, insulting/abusing people etc).

2006 also marks the start of my first job. Though it's not really my ideal kind of job, it's actually not a bad one. Like what someone had said, pick up the basics and move on from there. Will I still be doing what I'm doing now in a year time... I dun have the answer. Let's see what Fate has in it for me. Work can be challenging at times, esp when I need to think out of the box (yes, it's that phrase again!). But sometimes, the solution is as simple as ABC, and yet I complicated the whole thing. It's the most sad when the client wants to make dramatic changes to the already completed work cos they had change their mind in what they want. The work involved to adapt the changes can be quite daunting. People say always make your system as generic as possible, so that it's easy to make any changes. But to me, a generic system only make the thing slower and not as efficient. But ultimately, it belongs to which school of thought you subscribed to and the architecture you wish to have...

New Year Resolution

Now is 2007 and maybe it's time to make some New Year resolutions. But how many times have your new year resolutions come true? Is it still necessary to make them despite knowing that the chances of it (or them) coming true is very slim? Well, maybe it's something that we make and happily forget about it. Some people make it for the sake of having one, but of cos there are others who are determined to make their new year resolutions come true.

Every year, I tried to make one of two, but sad to say they never come true. Sometimes, it's just not within my control.. but sometimes..it's just my plain laziness... or should i say it's be cos I'm too ambitious?

This year, my New Year resolution, which i believe is totally within my control, is to reduce my BMI to below 23 or simply lose 3-5Kg of fats. Don't laugh, thinking that I only want to lose 3-5Kg, cos it's no easy task esp considering that as a working adult, I don't really have much free time to do any workout. And the meals that I have at the hawker centers, coffee shop etc can be quite high in energy content...
