Visual Recap

I figured since I'm here, I might as well show you a few pages I've done these last few months.. It's at least a small look into our lives recent and not-so-recent..

A Catch-All

Yeah, yeah, it's been 500 years.. whatever.. For what it's worth, most of my friends and family are on Facebook, so at least you all get my more-frequent-than-blogging status updates..  ;)  Nonetheless.. it's been a busy few months for us - summer spent working, doing Lyric, camping, etc.. Flash forward to the last month or so, and this is what we've been busy with...

In order, shall we?...

#1 - On Sept. 29th, we found out our rent was being raised $150 beginning Nov. 1.  Well, that just would not do, so we searched around, couldn't find any other acceptable apartment on such short notice (considering #3) so decided to go the homeowner route, placed an offer and had it accepted by Oct. 8th.  Wow!  I was much less stressed about the whole process than I thought I would be.. It's a far cry from our "dream home" but it's a great little starter - same sq ft as our town home rental, but all on one level in more of an open floor plan, so it feels much larger - PLUS it's a little over $300 less than what our new rent would be - woohoo!  :)  We close on Tuesday and hope to move in either Nov. 25 or Dec. 10 - depends on how much we get done how quickly.. (The interior is kind of like living inside a pumpkin, so we've got a LOT of painting to do before all our crap gets in the way - but we're also into the busiest time of the semester work-wise, so you know how that goes....)

#2 - Ethan is FINALLY potty trained!  In keeping with his general milestone pattern, he's a bit later to "bloom" than average, but only because he has to have it mentally figured out before he even attempts the real thing.. On Sept. 17th, he was in the bathtub, Alec and run into the other room to get his pajamas ready, and I was downstairs on the couch not feeling well.. We hear, "Daddy, I need a P!" which we thought meant he was looking for one of his bath toys, but moments later, the lid to the toilet clangs up, and we hear the blessed little sound of tinkling into the water.. Of course we both totally freaked out and had a huge celebration for him.. as big as you can in a bathroom, that is.. Then the next morning, we were stirred from our happy slumber by the joyous sound of peeing in the potty.. again!  :)  Needless to say, he pretty much potty trained himself.. It took about another month to get the other end of things figured out, but he's been doing such a great job and we're SO proud of him.. and so is he!  :)

#3 - And finally... Baby #2 is on it's way.. and - in true LaBau fashion, it's another boy.. yay!  :)  He's due the end of March (again with the busy time of year (once each semester) for work) but I'm well on my way to having a fill-in trained and ready to go.. Pregnancy this time around has really kicked my butt.. I was SO sick for, like, ages.. we're talking mid July thru mid October - not able to get off the couch, really.. exhausted and past ready for bed by 8:00 or earlier (and for me, that's like 5-6 hours earlier than normal) etc, etc.. I know, I'm prob'ly a totally baby about it, but oh well.. Poor Alec had to be mom and dad and work and clean and everything - he took it like a champ.. And poor Ethan was always so concerned about me - asking if I felt "really well" or if I was "still sick".. Luckily, that's mostly all gone now - just late at night and early in the morning is when I'm still a little woozy, but it's manageable.. :)

So anyway, that's us in a nutshell.. :)  Don't plan on another update too terribly soon - let's be honest, I'm like the world's worst blogger - but once everything is all pretty-fied at the new house I'll be posting pictures for you to ooh and aah over.. ;)

I Want One!

I've always kind of wanted a DSLR camera .. okay, not always, just for about the last 2 years or so.. We're not really in the market right now, though, but when a friend of ours let forced me to take his home and play with it, how could I say no?  I snapped these really quickly while we were at the zoo a couple weeks ago - like seriously, didn't even mess with settings or anything - I'm assuming I was on auto? - and I'm SO in love with how they came out!  Of course my subject was cute enough I'd be happy with just about anything.. ;)

Time for a Change..

I've missed it.. Alec prefers it.. So...

"Silly Leg Game"

This is one of Ethan's favorite things to do.. It looks pretty harmless, but he totally launches himself at {and over} you, so it can be a little scary at times.. and he's SO big, and we're SO old that we can't do it for very long at a time.. I think this particular night Alec and I ended up trading off 3 or 4 times until neither one of us could take it anymore..

...just more scrapping...

I know - don't faint.. 2 posts in 1 week is like miraculous for me, but I was kinda feeling it tonight, so here goes..

Since going back to work at the beginning of December, I've been taking a bit of a break with my designing, but I have squeezed in a little bit of time for scrapping.. Here are a few of the pages I've done.. links for credits can be found below..

And since I'm in a showing off mood, apparently, here are a few other craft projects I did over the holidays...

... the end ...

Our New Place

Jumping back a bit to when we moved in last November.. While our apartment in KC was fabulous for it's own very special reasons, and could have been even greater had things been different, I think it's safe to say our current digs are the best we've lived in yet.. Bedrooms here are smaller - significantly, in Ethan's case - and the architecture isn't nearly as gorgeous - just your standard 21st century contractor's faire - BUT we actually have heat available to all the rooms in the house, more storage than before, a master bathroom, and the kitchen.. the kitchen... the kitchen...  Take a peek...

it's so delicious!

Ethan's Room

there wasn't enough space in his room for his dresser, so we moved it to our room and got a snazzy organizer for his closet..
nothing like service with a smile.. straight to your doorstep..

So that's it in a nutshell.. I don't have any other photos with furniture or anything, and looking at an empty bedroom or living room is just plain boring.. But we like our 3 bedroom townhouse - especially since it's more like a house than an apartment - and we're certainly happy to be here..

The ward is nice, too.. Very transitory due to our location - it's made up of 3 different apartment complexes that don't even span a full block - and the building is about 2 blocks away, so we're looking forward to walking once it gets warmer..  :)  After being here about a month and a half, they called us to be Primary workers teaching the 8-9 year olds, so that's been fun.. Our class is small - 3 girls, and it's rarely the same 3 - but we have a good time, nonetheless.. About the time we started teaching, Ethan finally adjusted to going to nursery by himself again - he had a bit of a hard time with separation anxiety and Alec being away from him during church, so he'd always come find us in Sunday school, which was a bit frustrating.. But now everything has settled down, so we're all feeling much better about the whole situation.. and we are super happy to be able to spend the whole block together {Alec & I} doesn't get much better than that, does it?

{Oh yeah - for those of you reading via reader, I've updated the look of the blog with some new family photos - courtesy of my sister over Christmas - so come take a look..}

My Baby's 3!

So it's been a while since I posted last, but we couldn't miss the big birthday!  :)  Alec got me a Silhouette for Christmas (big Cyber Monday sale) so I had lots of fun with the invites and decorations.. It was train themed...{all party gear created using this FAB kit.. }

Fun banner my mom helped put together..

This was a Pin the Hat on the Conductor game.. there were a bunch of matching hats for the kids to use.. didn't really go over so well, so we did a bunch of rounds of Musical Chairs instead.. :)

Then we made our very own trains out of egg cartons and pipe cleaners..

And had a train cake.. not the prettiest thing that's ever been made, but hey - he's 3 - he doesn't care.. ;)

Oh yes, and of course there were presents to be opened.. Thanks so much to everyone for the gifts.. thank you cards are on the way.. soon.. .

"The Crow Game" that we learned from some cousins.. He still doesn't really get the rules, but you've got to teach them to appreciate fine games when they're young, don't you know.. ;)

He got a train set for Christmas, and there was a little boy on the box with a hat.. ever since, he's been very concerned that he, too, didn't have the appropriate headgear for train building.. problem solved..

In the foreground, generation 2 of the cool shirts.. Last year, we got him these shirts from Old Navy - drums, guitar, headphones and a cassette tape - and they've been his favorite ever since.. despite the fact that they're 2-3 sizes too small.. Well wouldn't you know, there's a new set available, and when we saw them, we just HAD to have them.. So now we can put away the smaller ones and hopefully he won't freak out too much that his orange drum shirt is now a blue drum shirt..

And in the background.. the crazy blue pillow which he has appropriately named Red.. My mom made me one similar when I was little, and I loved it.. I got the supplies for this one back when I got everything for the bug's quilt back in Sept of '09, but never got around to it until 2 nights before the big day.. Ah well, at least it's done now.. :)

A helicopter to add to the ever-growing collection of Rescue vehicles by Tonka, courtesy of Grandma and Grandpa..

...and that's a birthday in a nutshell.. HUGE thank yous to my parents for coming up for the weekend to play babysitter and party planner while Alec and I were drowning in work [more on that later].. We definitely couldn't have done it without you.. :)  I promise to come back and blog again real soon.. Catching up from the move, and updating on current goings on in the LaBau household..
