No Place Like Home

3 weeks

11,100 Miles--Planes, Trains, Automobiles, Subways, & Moving Trucks

15 States (California, Nevada, Utah, Connecticut, New York, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania*, Indiana*, Ohio*, Iowa*, Illinois*, Nebraska*, Wyoming*)(*States Jayson drove through moving the Verdoorns)

13 Different Beds (7 for me 13 for Jayson)

We had a fabulous three weeks and did many things we've only talked about doing, but there is definitely NO place like HOME!!

What Happens in Vegas...

What happens in Vegas when you've been on the road for three weeks and you have a 7 month old?

ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!

We stayed at Circus Circus and had big plans to walk the strip once it got dark. But after being in the car most of the morning (and most of the last 3 weeks), and walking around Circus Circus (the place is HUGE!) Bailey was done. So we went back to our hotel room and hung out there. So no stroll down the strip.

But we did drive down the strip after checking out. Hence the window defroster stripes in the picture!

Bailey Family Reunion

Shortly after my Grandpa Bailey passed away, my mom and her siblings decided to put together a family reunion. It has now become a tradition, and every two years, as much of the family as can make it, get together for a weekend reunion. This year the reunion was in Duck Creek, Utah. It was a fun weekend, and I enjoyed seeing my aunts and uncles again, as well as many of my cousins. It was also the first time any of my mom's family have met Bailey.

We had an enjoyable time and the scenery was beautiful. Can't wait for the next one!

Friends, SLC, & the "Y"

Last Tuesday, the 23rd, Bailey and I (along with my mom) drove to Utah where we met Jayson and Kim and Jay and the kids. I was so glad to see Jayson again, and so was Bailey. Her little face lit right up when she saw her daddy! We spent two days in the "valley" before heading down to Cedar City for the Bailey Family Reunion.

I was able to see one of my bestest friends, Lindsey. We lived together my last semester at BYU. We just clicked and have remained good friends ever since. It was fantastic seeing her, meeting her little boy Ethan, and introducing her to Jayson.

We went to Temple Square and toured the Conference Center.

We also went to the "Y". It was great fun walking the campus with Jayson and showing him everything. We went with Kim, Jay, and the kids and Kim and I had to go to the JKHB (Jesse Knight Humanities Building) where we spent so much of our time. The outside looks exactly the same, but the inside--not so much. They must have gutted the inside and rebuilt the whole thing, because it doesn't look anything like it did when I roamed the halls. It's much more pleasing now!

Happy Father's Day!

Jayson is a wonderful father. He has such love for Bailey and it shows in all that he does. Bailey is a daddy's girl and there are so many things that Jayson does better than me when it comes to Bailey. It is obvious how much that little girl loves her father.

Today is a bit hard for me because Jayson's not here; he's helping Kim & Jay move. As he's been gone these last four days I've come to a better understanding of how much he does, not just for Bailey, but for me too. We couldn't survive without him. Happy Father's Day Honey, We love you!~~Your Girls

And to the other men in our lives~~Happy Father's Day. Thank you for all that you do for us.

Day 8--Separation

Wednesday the 17th--time to go home.

No husband and no daddy. Doing it ALL ALONE (Jayson stayed behind to help Kim & Jay move to Provo, Utah).

12 hours of traveling (plane, waiting in the airport, and car)

One very good, but very tired 6 month old. She didn't make a fuss until the last hour of the flight.

Happy to be home (at least in Roseville, if not home, home), but missing the hubby already.

Day 7--4 States & Boston Again

Tuesday morning found us packing up the car and saying good-bye to Josh, Trish, & the girls. It was time to start heading back to Connecticut.

A final picture of Bailey with her Kaze cousins.

Since there was so much more in Boston that we wanted to see and do that we didn't get to do on Saturday, we decided to "hit" Boston again on our return. We first went back to the USS Constitution to do the museum again, a little less harried. We also wanted to go to the gift shop and get a "51 cent" penny. You know, the machine that smashes a penny while it imprints a picture? Jayson and I collect them from the different places we've been too. After the USS Constitution, we started to see new sights. We kept seeing the steeple for The Old North Church, and I was anxious to cross the river and find it. So off we were to find it.

The Old North Church where Paul Revere lit the lanterns to warn that "the British are coming." Unfortunately, due to time, we did not go inside; although I would have liked to.

The Massachusetts State House--& our last glimpse of Boston.

Day 6--Nubble Light House

Monday (the 15th) found 6 of us making the short journey to Nubble Light House in Cape Neddick. Unfortunately, Josh wasn't able to go with us. He had to report to duty Monday morning, and while he fully expected to only be there an hour or two, he ended up having tom work all day. So it was just Jayson, Bailey, me, Trish and their 3 girls. The weather matched my idea of a trip to a light house. Chilly and overcast.

The Nubble Light House is supposedly the most recognizable light house on the East Coast because it is photographed so often.

I wish the picture could do this scene justice. It was absolutely beautiful. Also, I had to have proof that I've seen the Atlantic ocean (from more than a plane).

Some things never change. It doesn't matter where we're at, but Bailey and her daddy still take their naps together!

Day 5--Church and Relaxation

Sunday (the 14th) was another relaxing day. We went to church with Josh, Trish, and the girls. I was able to attend Sunday School and Relief Society for the first time in almost 3 years, since I've in Primary for forever! Unfortunately, I was a bit too tired to really pay attention to the lessons!

The four girls after church

After church, some of us did some napping--well, at least me and the 4 girls. We also spent a good portion of the afternoon chatting and catching up with Josh & Trish. After dinner, we decided to go for a walk. The base housing (Josh is in the Navy) surrounds a flood plane and the view was gorgeous!

Bailey all snug and ready for the walk.

Various views from the trail.

Day 4--4 States & Boston

On Saturday morning (the 13th) we borrowed Kim and Jay's car and GPS and went to meet Josh, Trish, and the girls in Boston. We met up with them at the Bunker Hill Monument for a picnic and went on from there.

The family at the Bunker Hill Monument

This is why Trish & I stayed at the bottom with the 2 babies! We decided to let the boys go alone with the 2 older girls!

Yay! He made it!!!

Yes, he is lying on a grate at the top of a tower. Can you say Crazy! The 2 little lights are at the very bottom of the monument.

The view of Boston from the top.

After lunch and the Bunker Hill Memorial and Museum, we went a few blocks to the USS Constitution.

Josh & 2 of his girls walking to the USS Constitution

Josh, Jayson, & Bailey waiting in line.

Apparently the enlisted Navy men would become restless and jealous of the amenities that the officers had and were known to storm the officers quarters. As a result, Marines were placed in a "buffer zone" between the officers quarters and the enlisted's bunks. Once again the Marine (plus 2) are standing guard over the officer's quarters.

The Navy man before his bunk.

After finishing the tour of the USS Constitution and a super quick jaunt through the museum, we took off for Josh & Trish's where we were spending the next 2 days. So, how did we do 4states in 1 day? Connecticut to Massachusetts, to New Hampshire (only passing through but still there) to Maine. Four states in 1 day. Whew, am I tired!

Day 3--Gillette Castle State Park

Friday (the 12th) provided us a more leisurely day. We wanted to make sure that Bailey had some floor time. Time to crawl and wiggle after such a long day in a stroller (which she handled phenomenally). So we took our time in the morning and then after lunch we went to Gillette Castle State Park in East Haddam, Connecticut. The castle was built by William Gillette who was an actor, playwright, director and producer during the early 1900s. He was the first person to portray Sherlock Holmes on stage and the image of Sherlock Holmes as we know him is because of William Gillette. The "castle" was his retirement house and it is truly remarkable.

The entire castle is built of stone, including all of the interior walls.

The "backyard" view--the picture doesn't do it justice.

Kim, Bailey, & I (I don't care for me in the pic, but I need to include some pics of me and my sis!)

Day 2--New York City

Our second day on the East Coast (Thursday the 10th) started early because we were headed into New York City. We drove to the train station in Stamford, Connecticut and then took the train into Grand Central Station.

On the train to New York & Grand Central Station (with our neice Natalie in the back)

The famous four-way clock in the main terminal at Grand Central Station.

Jayson, Bailey, & I split from Kim, Jay & the kids and went our separate ways. We headed to the Chrysler Building.

Jayson at the Chrysler Building. It was hard to get Jayson and ALL of the building in the picture at the same time!

After leaving the Chrysler Building, we found ourselves jumping on the subway (which I was totally comfortable with after being in Europe way back when!) and headed to Central Park.

Along the outer west side of Central Park is this war memorial.

Jayson & Bailey in Central Park.

I've heard a lot about the Carousel in Central Park. And while it was fun, & Bailey's first carousel ride, it was a typical carousel.

Family photo in Central Park.

While in Central Park, we hooked back up with Kim, Jay, and the kids. We then all went to FAO Schwartz together.

At the entrance to FAO Schwartz. The soldier was very accommodating. Poor guy must pose for pictures all day long!

Once we were done at FAO Schwartz we got back on the subway and headed downtown to see the Empire State Building. We did not go to the top to the observation deck because of visibility (really low cloud coverage).

Jayson in front of the Empire State Building.

Inside the lobby. This will look familiar for those who are Elf lovers!

After leaving the Empire State Building, we jumped back on the subway and returned to Grand Central Station to catch the train back to Connecticut. It was an exhausting day, but so much fun!
