Just before Christmas last year, Nathan popped the question, and she said, “Yes!” He will be marrying Rebecca Royce this summer at her home church in Maryland. They are both juniors at Grace College this year in Indiana. Nathan has been able to work a couple of internships along with his studies in environmental biology.
Luke is a sophomore at The Ohio State University and is attending classes at the branch campus near our home. He is pursuing a degree in engineering. He lives at home . . . well, sort of. . . His residence is technically at our home, but he is usually found on campus – either in class or doing his job in the technical support department – or he is found working at Kroger. So he isn’t actually home very much.
Caleb is transitioning between home school and college by taking some classes at the technical college nearby. He especially enjoyed his writing class and did exceptionally well in it. He leads the percussion section of our home school band, sings in a home school choir, and participates in art and drama classes. He worked this fall at a corn maze in the area and likes to do odd jobs for anyone in need of tall, strong help.
Grace is a sophomore in our home school. She enjoys babysitting and keeps herself busy with various projects and activities. She plays the flute in our home school band as well as in our church orchestra. She sings in two home school choirs and the adult choir at church. She is in home school art and drama as well. She played the lead role in “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” last week. When she has a bit of down time, she can usually be found singing with a sketchbook at hand. We stunned her with a surprise party for her 16th birthday earlier this week.
Alina is in 8th/9th grade and is also quite busy with a variety of activities. She plays trumpet in the band and sings in the two home school choirs as well. She also takes art class and likes to draw. She is participating in Bible quizzing this year and is doing quite well. She has a house cleaning job and does a bit of babysitting, too.
Kris is still employed by Cardinal Health as a software tester. He occasionally gets to do his work from home rather than making the 45 minute commute. He sometimes teaches adult Sunday school class and continues in his capacity as an elder in our church.
Katrina keeps busy keeping up with the kids and keeping track of the cars in order to make sure nobody gets stranded anywhere. She helps a friend with the care of her elderly mother-in-law a few mornings each week. She is taking classes at the local college and is focusing on studying the human body this year. With every week’s lesson, she is increasingly amazed at the wonder of God’s creation!
If you come to our house, the biggest changes you’ll find are a garage, a great room, and a front porch. The driveway is being expanded as I type this letter, and there are a few finishing touches to be completed in the great room, but we expect all the construction to be completed in the next few weeks. The porch is already finished and has been “broken in” as a place to do school work when it’s warm enough outside. We are able to use the great room, and especially enjoy the fireplace. The kids are looking forward to having lots of friends over to enjoy the additional space. Once the driveway is done, we’ll be able to use the garage, too.
We have been greatly blessed this year with good health, jobs, our home, our family, and friends. The biggest blessing we enjoy is our Savior, Jesus, whose birth we now celebrate. We hope you have a joyous celebration of Christmas and a very blessed 2011.
