My Big News

There are a few options for how a college student studying teaching can complete their 'student teaching' requirement.  1: Actual student teaching, in another teacher's classroom for an entire semester without pay 2. Actual student teaching in exotic locations like D.C. or Houston (that's way more exotic than Utah, trust me) 3. A teaching internship, in your own classroom, for an entire year, earning 1/2 salary I've wanted to do a teaching internship ever since I heard about it. Yesterday I accepted an internship position at a Middle School about thirty minutes away from where Rob and I live. I did my practicum (a 6 week teaching experience) at the school and loved it. The teacher I worked with loved me too and raved about me to his principal. Because they wanted me so badly they sped up their hiring process and cut out their typical practice of having interns come in and teach in front of a classroom to see who they like better.  I'm feel...

...And I've got a few pictures to prove it! Draper, UT Temple I married my best friend. Rob's family. You'll be seeing this again if you're getting a Thank You.  My family. All of our nieces and nephews got to be with us on our special day.   December 20th was the happiest day of my life. I'm so grateful that I get to be with my best friend for the rest of forever. He was well worth the wait.

This is the fate the weekend had in store for me.  I'm digging my iPhone ladies and gents.

New Most Embarrassing Moment

Tonight Rob was warming up for his hockey game, so I was home alone. I heard a loud knock at the door, and looked through the peephole to see who it was. I didn't recognize the man, so I just stood there silently and realized that my door wasn't locked. He'd know I was home if he heard me lock the door (which obviously would be horrible). So obviously I just left it unlocked. After he rang the doorbell to no answer, he opened my door. I was pretty proud of how quickly I was able to slam the door shut and turn the deadbolt. I started thinking of the things in the room that would double as a weapon, but then I heard him call out, "It's the maintenance guy." Whoops. At least we'll get a working furnace out of the ordeal.

Today I was Responsible

Went to class, didn't text during a single one. Ate leftovers for lunch with the Mister. Went to my work meeting, and told too many jokes (I'll take 1/2 credit). Finished my resume so I can apply for teaching internships.  What has marriage done to me?

We're learning how to be frugal over here. We're both lucky to have parents who taught us to live within our means, but it's quite the adjustment getting used to our means. I found one way to be frugal that I'm proud of.  We both like pizza, but having pizza all the time adds up. So I make it instead. I love this recipe. It's super quick, and it tastes delightful.  Mission Pizza 2 c flour 1 T yeast 1/4 c melted butter 3/4 c warm water pinch salt pinch sugar Blend ingredients and let rise for 10 minutes. Cook at 375 until cheese is melted Thank you family recipe box for the recipe find.

This is my life

My husband and I live in an apartment. An apartment we love (except for the fact that the furnace doesn't work and the handle fell off the toilet...we're talking to maintenance tomorrow).  This is a bad picture, taken from our webcam, but it proves that I have my very own kitchen. I told Rob I'd cook more if other people and their things weren't in my way. I proved him right. I have the cupcakes, cookies, ham and potatoes, chicken and rice..... to prove it.  You'll notice our elegant card table, courtesy of my parents. We had a solid offer on a free table, but that fell through (literally) when the legs went missing. Anybody want to donate to the newlywed and broke cause? Anywho. We're delighted to be here. We had our first day of classes today. We're gearing up for a busy semester, but I don't think it's anything we can't handle. We're just enjoying setting up our little home.

Don't worry. I'm not dead. Just getting back into the swing of things after receptions, honeymoon, and Christmas. Oh. Did I mention that I'm married?  This blog will probably take a new direction now. The title will obviously change since I'm no longer Katie Bell. The mister and I move into our first apartment tomorrow, and we couldn't be more thrilled. That one-bedroom apartment seems like paradise to these nomads of almost two weeks.  I'm looking forward to this new chapter of my life. And talking all about how perfect my wedding day was.  But here's a picture of me and the Maid of Honor to tide you over.
