Today, I have attended the introduction day of working as trainee at Dutch Government (Rijksoverheid) in The Hague (Den Haag). Why did I attend? The story started at the day that I received an e-mail of Dutch Government in which they ask people to join their Masterclass.
My mother expected me to work after my graduation. Since my business is not stabilised yet, I am not able to take care of my whole family. Therefore, I have to look for alternatives. Since the topic of Masterclass of Dutch Government is very interesting, I decided to apply for that traineeships. The Dutch Government asked the engineers to solve the Geothermal Power in The Netherlands. Although I have zero knowledge about this, I still want to try since it hits my interest.
I started writing cover letter and checking my CV. I asked Patrick for checking my cover letter. I was very glad he corrected many stuff that I oversaw. One week later, I got a call from the Dutch Government in which they told me that I was invited by joining their Masterclass.
So, I thought, I was selected. But I thought, I need to do 1 test to see if I am the candid they are looking for. But I was totally wrong!!! Today, the day of the meeting with the Dutch Government, it seemed that this is just a warming up: it was just an introduction. For this warming up, they gave us a real case to solve. There were 55 engineers present. We were split up in groups. I work with two ladies. One from Industrial Design and the other from the Medical background.
It was my first time to work with engineers from different disciplines. I liked it a lot! We have had nice discussions. But we were somehow running out of time, since we felt we went into the wrong direction. Other group members were already done with their homework an hour before the presentation started. Ya, all group were asked to give a 3 minutes long (they were very strict with time) presentation to talk about the topic "Geothermal Power". How to solve, how to manage? Who to manage, etc.
We started working on our presentation an hour before our presentation on paper. In total we got 2,5 hours to solve the problems. It was tight, but it was also fun! 20 minutes before the presentation started, we started working on our presentation in Powerpoint. :P
We were the third who gave the presentation. We decided to give each other 1 minute to talk. I noticed that during our presentation the judges wrote a lot of stuff in their note. At the end of each presentation, there would be one winner. Guess what?! Our presentation was the best!!! We won a book and a golden medal!!! Let me show you:
This is a bag that every potential trainee will get for applying and selected to join the Masterclass
This is the golden medal I received because we had the best presentation
Now, everyone who attended today's Masterclass can apply for the traineeships. This is a two year long well-paid traineeships at all department of Dutch Government. Before are on board of their ship, there are many tests and assessments that you need to successful complete. Shall I apply? Am I smart enough?
