The Butterfly

Just like the butterfly, I too will awaken in my own time.  ~Deborah Chaskin

Hi All!  I know I said I'd be back with some Christmas cards but I had one last card that wasn't holiday themed that needed to be delivered today.  This was a special request for someone's younger sister who is getting ready to graduate from cosmetology school.  She mentioned that she reminds her sister of this quote all the time so she wanted there to be a butterfly as part of the image.  I had a TON of fun looking around some different stamp companies and am probably not as embarrassed as I should be to disclose that many other stamps were purchased during the making of this card, lol :)  I ended up using this gorgeous stamp called Come Softly by Ching Chou Kuik that I got as a digi from Sweet Pea Stamps and it was soooo much fun to color up with my Copics!  For the card I really just wanted something soft and pretty that would let the image shine.  And as a big sister myself I'm just glad that it gets to be a part of a really special moment between two sisters :)  Thanks so much for stopping by to have a look- I hope everyone is having a fabulous week so far!

Imagine

Hi All!  I hope that you're all well on your way to being ready for the holiday- I can hardly believe we're down to just a few more days!  I got to spend time with one of the best Christmas presents ever this afternoon- one of my best friends' new little baby boy...his Auntie Katie had to deliver his new red and white striped sleeper that says 'My First Christmas' on it :)  I'm enjoying a few days off and working on getting the rest of my family's Christmas presents put together but I wanted to take a quick minute and post another Christmas card before the season for them is over.  I used Tickled Winter Little Evie from Tickled Pink Stamps again because it's been a favorite this season and I wanted to try and do her up in red this time with my Copics.  I paired her with some paper from My Minds Eye and used Liquid Pearls to do the trim on her outfit- it's a different look than the Stickles I normally use and it's kind of nice for a change.  I hope you enjoy seeing this little cutie again as much as I like using her!

A Football Graduation

Hi All!  So I know we all as card makers know the benefits of someone ordering a custom card- they get to tell you all about the person it's for and get in return a one-of-a-kind, just for them kind of card.  Which is great when the person they tell you about fits nicely into your wheelhouse of what you do well.  But what about when they ask for something out of your comfort zone?  You have a few moments (or in my case MANY moments) of head scratching and wondering how to pull it off.  Such is the case of a graduation card that is for a guy who 'likes cars, plays football- his number is 26 and their school mascot is an antelope (say what?!?) and has blond hair and a goatee- you know, just in case you do one of those cool stamps you color and want to get one that looks like him'...so my translation is I'll need to find a stamp that somehow works into one or more of those categories and then figure out how to get it all on a card so it looks good- oh, and yeah, it's for a boy which means I can use none of my favorite things like flowers and lace and bling.  I mean, what's a girl to do?  Well, this girl thought football- yeah I can work with that, and bonus is if there's a helmet I won't have to worry about hair color or goatee :)  Thank goodness for Kenny K images because I found just what I was looking for with the 'Football' digi stamp.  Then I glanced through all my embellishments and stash for 'non-girly' stuff that I could also add.  As luck would have it I actually did think of a pretty cool way to pull in the #26- I was looking over some of the challenges and saw that Paper Sundaes is doing 'Pop It Up' and after looking at the DT inspiration had a moment of my own inspiration for 'popping' the number off the design paper.  All in all, considering how out of left field, or in football terms 'far from the 50 yard line', this card felt to me, I think I managed a pretty cool guy card that still has those personal touches.  But sometimes, I'm just not sure I charge enough for all this mental turmoil :)
