Princess Party and The Fair

One of our longest and best friends, Leighton, turned 4 this week and had a Princess party! I just so happened to have this costume in our dress up bin so of course Lucas showed up as her knight in shining armor! Later, we were superman, and then Belle, and then back to superman.

The princess seeing her knight for the first time.

Oh the faces just make me giggle, and Leighton's dimples. I can't even type I am so mesmorized by her sweet face. These friends are tight. . . and so are their mommas ;)

It's fair time! The Williamson County Fair is always the week before school and really is the perfect time to have a celebration and fun night out as a family. The boys were great- we arrived at 6 and left after 10! Fried Oreos, 64 ounces of sweet tea, oh my! Lucas was so brave on the rides- Finn just stayed with me and waved to "yuyu" each time he came by.

I am convinced that as we are coming into heaven, there will be waiters walking around making sure we get our fill in these fried oreos.

My sweet tea soul sister. She loves the fair so much she comes more than once, more than twice, usually 3-4 times. I am pretty sure next year there will be a ride or food tent named after her.

In one year, my short, brown haired baby turned blonde and curly. But the dimples remain the same.

Our favorite ride is the Nemo ride every year, I was so hoping Finn would want to do it but of course he just wanted to stick with momma. I guess I am ok with that ;)

One of the most fun places is the farm exhibit where they get to participate in the whole farming process, from planting to feeding, harvesting, fishing, taking care of sheep, milking cows, selling their goods and spending their money!

Me and Lulu all three years. And Finn is in that first photo!

Now, until I made this collage I did not realize that he was wearing the same shirt (different sizes) each year. Really hilarious to me.

GrandDa came back! He drove 6 hours round trip just to play and eat lunch with us. What a grandfather!

Last Days of Summer Vacation

21 Months. Does this mean in 3 months he will be 2 and I can't call him a baby any more? Sigh. I guess it does. I can't see how he could possibly get any cuter and every day he amazes me by doing it. Lately he is into going around the table and telling us all he loves us. "I yuv yoo yuyu, I yuv yoo momma, I yuv yoo dadda" He has also fallen in love with Lucas' friends Leilei and Crosby and when he sees them at church he yells in excitement.

GrandDa speaks in Kentucky every now and then and when he does he makes us his bookend stop. Lucas was pretty pumped to go to a big boy movie, and even more pumped when I let him get a red icee and popcorn.

Otter Creek kids had a playday at the splash pad downtown Nashville. It turned out to be a perfect day. At the beginning of the summer, Finn was very hesitant around the water but now he is all in the whole time. Both of my boys play so well there, stay in the area, and could play for hours and hours. I love just sitting and watching their faces.

On August 1st (important detail), it is usually unbearably hot and humid in Nashville. As in, the pool is not even refreshing its that hot. So we planned a playdate, it was supposed to be hot and sunny. Nope. 72, overcast, and drizzling rain with a cool breeze. We all hopped in the hot tub instead. Nashville has so confused me this summer but I am not complaining.

The sun finally came out after lunch and warmed us up, so we definitely needed our big brimmed straw hats to keep us in the shade.

Later that evening we went for a family swim and it got cool again so I happily wrapped my little buddies up to warm them up. Cold babies= cuddles= mom wins.

Look who surprised us with a little visit! We loved seeing and catching up with Aunt Megan for a few hours and eating some yummy burritos with her. We sure do miss our Megan.

Be still my heart. In my mailbox, not one, but two snoopy letters. It is all getting real now. . .

Jackson Hole

One of our favorite places with some of our favorite people- Jackson Hole, Wyoming. It is always so refreshing to head west where it is cool enough to wear a sweatshirt at night and in the morning while your Nashville friends are sweating :)

The night before we were to leave it almost looked like we wouldn't all be going. Our flight was leaving after church on Sunday. Sunday at 3AM, Finn woke up in respiratory distress, his worst attack yet. We are so thankful for doctors that answer their phones in the middle of the night and get steroids to us so we don't have to go to the ER. He probably should have gone to the ER, but they would have for sure kept him and that would have been a definite no on a trip. So- we tried the heavy steroids and they worked so he was cleared to go. Thankful he was breathing better, but the having a toddler hopped up on prednisone on delayed flights is really a blast--add to that he is a momma's boy so I am the only one that he would let hold him while he was wiggling and screaming. Awesome sauce.

So, kids his age are not supposed to be on those heavy steroids more than twice in a year, this was his third time, so he hit the flag of "out of control asthma" and is at a high risk for having a worse attack next time so he is now on a daily preventative (inhaler) to hopefully keep him from that. And it better work because it is ex-pen-sive.

Ok, so we get to Jackson Hole late from delayed flights. Tucked into our barn. I wake up at 3am and can't open my eye. It was swollen shut like a golf ball was behind it. Seriously? Off to the ER we went. They said it was pink eye and gave me meds. There will not be photos of me until the end of our trip. When we got home, the swelling came back and I am still dealing with itchy eyes that swell up if I don't stay on allergy meds so it wasn't pinkeye but an allergic reaction so something. Bad for me, good for everyone else.

Ok, so now. Jackson Hole. Good thing with all our drama we were in one of the most beautiful, restful, worshipful places. We spent all of our time outside, playing, exploring, sitting.

One thing we love to do is to float the river in tubes- it gets fun when you have to lay flat flat flat on your back and go under a bridge so your nose doesn't come off, but the beauty of floating down is just marvelous. No pictures from that. I was holding prednisone boy in a float.

The view from our barn. I would go out with the intention of closing my eyes or reading a book but that never happened. I just stared.

Setting up dinner in the back yard. Incredibly beauty, delicious food, being outside so kids could run and play while the adults visited was just perfection. Sigh. This is making me rather depressed about needing to go make easy mac for lunch today.

The first picture I allowed taken of me. Far enough away you can't tell one eye is half the size of the other. Oye.

View of "our barn" from our friend's house. A true sanctuary and a boy's dream.

That would be my 4 year old tackling the big boys and thinking he was the same size. They were kind enough to not tell him otherwise.

But this 4 year old sure did know how to get the volleyball over the net! How is that for playing volleyball at the base of the Tetons?

One of our other favorite activities is bike riding- we do this multiple times because it is just so fun. Jackson Hole has miles of trails and the boys would just sing and giggle when Josh rode fast.

Breaking for lunch, I think Josh deserved an extra cheeseburger for pulling both boys!

Another dinner outside. I couldn't even take in the beautify it was just so over the top. Way to go God.

Races on the golf course while we waited for our food. I love how Lucas watched Jackson the hole time and had his tongue out. Probably why he lost the race;) Jackson was so sweet and patient with both boys all week.

Another bike ride day. This one without kids because we were going on some trails in the woods and some hard hills with traffic.

Not sure if you can see back in there but those are elk. We literally felt them coming through, there were maybe 200 of them, it was spectacular to stop and watch them run through, we tried to catch up to see them closer -but not too close- but they turned and went another direction.

The snake river. Cold, clear, and majestic.

You just can't be in a red barn looking out at wildflowers, elk, and the tetons and not take pictures of the cutest boys in the world, right?

The last night was our 9th anniversary adult dinner- my stomach is still dreaming about all the amazing food and just sitting with our friends for a few hours and enjoying conversation and laughs was the icing on the cake for the trip. It also helped that sweet Carly watched our boys so we could actually eat and and enjoy our food.
