One of our favorite places with some of our favorite people- Jackson Hole, Wyoming. It is always so refreshing to head west where it is cool enough to wear a sweatshirt at night and in the morning while your Nashville friends are sweating :)
The night before we were to leave it almost looked like we wouldn't all be going. Our flight was leaving after church on Sunday. Sunday at 3AM, Finn woke up in respiratory distress, his worst attack yet. We are so thankful for doctors that answer their phones in the middle of the night and get steroids to us so we don't have to go to the ER. He probably should have gone to the ER, but they would have for sure kept him and that would have been a definite no on a trip. So- we tried the heavy steroids and they worked so he was cleared to go. Thankful he was breathing better, but the having a toddler hopped up on prednisone on delayed flights is really a blast--add to that he is a momma's boy so I am the only one that he would let hold him while he was wiggling and screaming. Awesome sauce.
So, kids his age are not supposed to be on those heavy steroids more than twice in a year, this was his third time, so he hit the flag of "out of control asthma" and is at a high risk for having a worse attack next time so he is now on a daily preventative (inhaler) to hopefully keep him from that. And it better work because it is ex-pen-sive.
Ok, so we get to Jackson Hole late from delayed flights. Tucked into our barn. I wake up at 3am and can't open my eye. It was swollen shut like a golf ball was behind it. Seriously? Off to the ER we went. They said it was pink eye and gave me meds. There will not be photos of me until the end of our trip. When we got home, the swelling came back and I am still dealing with itchy eyes that swell up if I don't stay on allergy meds so it wasn't pinkeye but an allergic reaction so something. Bad for me, good for everyone else.
Ok, so now. Jackson Hole. Good thing with all our drama we were in one of the most beautiful, restful, worshipful places. We spent all of our time outside, playing, exploring, sitting.
One thing we love to do is to float the river in tubes- it gets fun when you have to lay flat flat flat on your back and go under a bridge so your nose doesn't come off, but the beauty of floating down is just marvelous. No pictures from that. I was holding prednisone boy in a float.
The view from our barn. I would go out with the intention of closing my eyes or reading a book but that never happened. I just stared.
Setting up dinner in the back yard. Incredibly beauty, delicious food, being outside so kids could run and play while the adults visited was just perfection. Sigh. This is making me rather depressed about needing to go make easy mac for lunch today.
The first picture I allowed taken of me. Far enough away you can't tell one eye is half the size of the other. Oye.
View of "our barn" from our friend's house. A true sanctuary and a boy's dream.
That would be my 4 year old tackling the big boys and thinking he was the same size. They were kind enough to not tell him otherwise.
But this 4 year old sure did know how to get the volleyball over the net! How is that for playing volleyball at the base of the Tetons?
One of our other favorite activities is bike riding- we do this multiple times because it is just so fun. Jackson Hole has miles of trails and the boys would just sing and giggle when Josh rode fast.
Breaking for lunch, I think Josh deserved an extra cheeseburger for pulling both boys!
Another dinner outside. I couldn't even take in the beautify it was just so over the top. Way to go God.
Races on the golf course while we waited for our food. I love how Lucas watched Jackson the hole time and had his tongue out. Probably why he lost the race;) Jackson was so sweet and patient with both boys all week.
Another bike ride day. This one without kids because we were going on some trails in the woods and some hard hills with traffic.
Not sure if you can see back in there but those are elk. We literally felt them coming through, there were maybe 200 of them, it was spectacular to stop and watch them run through, we tried to catch up to see them closer -but not too close- but they turned and went another direction.
The snake river. Cold, clear, and majestic.
You just can't be in a red barn looking out at wildflowers, elk, and the tetons and not take pictures of the cutest boys in the world, right?
The last night was our 9th anniversary adult dinner- my stomach is still dreaming about all the amazing food and just sitting with our friends for a few hours and enjoying conversation and laughs was the icing on the cake for the trip. It also helped that sweet Carly watched our boys so we could actually eat and and enjoy our food.
