Pinewood Derby!

On March 2nd, Lyman participated in his first Cub Scout Pinewood Derby.  I am his den leader and so was very involved in planning it.  We made it into a huge fundraiser for the pack by opening up the racing to the whole ward to submit their own cars after the scouts raced theirs.  Lyman had a fantastic time building his car with Andrew.  Andrew was like a man possessed making his own car for the open division.  Polishing axles, graphite lubricant, etc etc.... who knew it was such a big deal to build a little car!  As Andrew jokingly pointed out to me, "it is a matter of pride!"

I have loved working with Lyman in scouts.  He loves it and it has provided us with hours and hours of time to talk about life on our commute to and from scouts each week.  It is fun for me to see him mature while he watches the older scouts.  He is the youngest (and smallest) but he has developed some very good friendships.
Flag ceremony (Lyman is on the left).
The Pit table after all the cars were weighed and registered.  The pink line towards the back of the table separated the scout cars from the other cars.  The scouts were able to reenter their car into the open division if they wanted to without paying the registration fee.
Lyman was very pleased with his car even though it did not take first place with the scouts.  Even though this picture says otherwise, he was a very good sport and is here goofing off with a pouty face.
Lyman's car is the one on the far right of the track in this photo.  We have a very fancy track that has a digital laser triggered timer.  It all connected to a computer that randomly selected the cars to race against each other and created brackets.
Our turn out was tremendous!  We were so pleased so many people came out to support the Cub Scouts.  It was a good fundraiser and everyone had fun.  I guess there are a lot of grown up cub scouts out there.

Kindergarten Play

Corilynn had a school play called "The Mitten."  She had a short speaking roll in it and was one of the snowflakes posted right up front.  It was so adorable to watch all the kindergartners sing together and dance to the songs.  Corilynn did a marvelous job being a snowflake.

But true to her personality, sometimes she did not know what she was supposed to be doing.  It was hilarious to watch her cross her arms and look at as like "I have no idea what these guys are doing" while everyone else kept doing their dance moves.  She was right upfront and the teacher at the base of the stage kept trying to get her attention to help her remember the moves as she stuck out quite noticeably   We were laughing and smiling to her as her attention stayed on us with funny confused faces and many shrugged shoulders.  We love her for her aloof personality.  I guess practicing at school for over a month was not long enough for her.

Mean Mom

I know I am a mean mom.  Mean moms are known for not letting their kids fight with each other   They frequently contrive ways to teach them to love and play happily with each other   Mean moms don't let their kids hit, tease, or hurt each other   Mean moms also find ways to make their kids find the consequences of fighting not to their liking.  This is our "get along" jacket.  They have to wear it together for a few minutes until they are ready to get along.  Moments after I took this picture, they were laughing and giggling on the floor.  Mean moms love to hear their kids giggle.
