live firing is so much different when u become the one observing the firing, taking care of the firers' safety instead of the one who is firing. haha.. and being a safety spec means much more roles and responsibility. and even if they say that we are only the 2nd line of safety (the 1st line of safety is the responsiblity of the firers).. if anything bad happens we will all kena too, be it getting extras or even getting charged. owells =S

the live firing wasnt that bad.. minor cockups here and there until the last part. IT HAD TO RAIN IN THE EVENING. and i got drenched totally cus i was on top of the veh for the whole day. and it was freaking hot in the afternoon and yes. i was still on top of the veh doing safety.. zzZ now im sunburnt and im having a very very bad headache.

the CO was pretty encouraging about our performance ytd despite the screwups. hopefully we'll perform better tmr.

yes tmr. speaking of tmr.. have to book in soon! yawns

some random thoughts:

- i am getting FAT.

- i have not been exercising for quite a while. and quite a while = 3 weeks? omg im getting so unfit. and i think im getting lazy nowadays. whenever i have nothing to do... i sleep. HAH! which explains why i need more than 7 hrs of everyday sleep nowadays. which is quite bad cus the amt of hrs where i will see the world each day will slowly drop.. zzz

- i may be changing my blogskin soon.. not that im getting sick of it but maybe a change for the better? ha!

- i love my ipod :)

- the weather has been pretty fine these few days. not much haze during the hari raya period (my malay frens are so lucky man). but! ARGH! i totally screwed my holiday by rotting at home.. grrrrrrrrrr.

- life sucks. have to book in like in 3 hrs time? just for some stupid function? and weekend burnt? (refer to previous entry) ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH MY PRECIOUS WEEKEND!!!!!

- i am getting fat.

so many things to do. so little time.

went for class bbq last weekend. it was really great. the turn out wasnt that bad.. 17/26 if im not wrong. it was great to talk to them over the long night cus i really didnt have enough time to talk during maf and we were too high at maf to talk about things. so i guess the bbq was really at the correct time. and yiqi and olivia came! woo havent seen them for quite a while (except for yiqi where i met her at jec once during bookout).. too bad pple had to leave early for various reasons. otherwise it would have been more fun..

the real fun started at around midnight. the few of us decided to have this "romantic" supper. we melted a chocolate bar into a pot and started to dip all sorts of things into the chocolate.. like bananas, marshmellows, strawberries, etc.. so sweet lah. as in not that kind of awwwwwww sweet but really diabetic sweet. lol and then py claimed she beat someone 2 - 0 in winning 11. so she challenged us in the game loh. but then.. sigh.. kena thrashed 6 - 0 in the end lol.

then we proceeded on to play mahjong. 1/2way then py had to go home and it was like 2+ am?!!? wa so late le. then i tookover and we played until like 6+ 7. by that time we really pengsan already. when we finished playing liangjian's mom just nice opened the door and she saw the 4 of us lying dead on the floor, on the mahjong table! omg it was just so funny lah.. after a while i managed to get myself off the mahjong table and went to watch tv till 8 plus and then i went home. didnt really sleep when i go home.. i wondered why. and i really regretted it. cus im still feeling super shagged.

that was for bbq. so fun. yet today sucks. cus the whole world didnt have to book in but we had. and we did nothing at all!! waste of time. and alot of saigang till we booked out! damn. and the best part was that our OIL on wed is half eaten up thanks to this stupid seminar on wed evening. IDIOTS. IDIOTS. this is how my youth is wasted. (not that i have much youth to start with but anyway..) and my BLOODY WEEKEND IS BURNT! ARGH.

nothing is better than a soup of vulgarities but i guess i wont post them here. so unhealthy. and if my men see this it wont give them any good impression. oh sighs.. there goes my freedom of speech AGAIN..

today marked the official posting in of the new specs into 42SAR. and at the same time there was this barbeque for the outgoing specs who are ORDing this november. my upperstudies came and i was like WOAH! look at them. totally prepared for civilian life man. look at the long tinted hair. funky specs. totally not like a soldier. i couldnt imagine how they looked like when they were 3SGs a year before (they are now known as 3SG(NS)XXX). and apart from the bbq there was this plaque presentation for this specs and when RSM was announcing "third sergeant NS so and so", suddenly i thought: when will this day ever come for me?

1 year and 1 mth to ORD. seems short and long.

anyway. here's a short clip. very applicable to those in NS. click here!

and as for my posting, im an ops spec. meaning i will most probably stay in the office during my tour. not so bad but i guess it's not as happening as the combatants, who will spend alot of high and low moments with their men. but my time will probably be spent in front of the computer doing admin work -shrugs- mundane i should say.

owells..

im hungry.

it's hard to get your morale high when:

- you are posted to a unit that is still in the same old camp and you have to take 1+ hr just to reach the guardroom.

- you are going to lead a section who are more experienced than you are, be it in weapon systems, driving, etc.

- you are stuck in a place where 3SG is still one of the lowest life-forms availabe there, instead of the "pressure forward" unit where 3SGs are supposedly kings.

- your unit is turning ops on november and all the 4NTMs* (4-hr Notice To Move) are coming up.
* 4NTM means that once the button is pressed, everyone has to be back in camp and get ready for war in 4 hours time.

- you as a 3SG still have to cheong alot with your men. it's not like you havent cheonged enough when you were in SOA.

- you are subjected to alot of extras which burns your weekend.

- your RSM is fierce and has high expectations of his soldiers.

- there's IPPT and SOC the next week and u have just caught a bad flu. you cant do anything with all the runny noses, itchy and sore throats, all the stupid bodyaches.

- you are fighting ATEC next year. which means even more outfield.

- you are going to be stuck at sungei gedong, not just for the rest of the 2 years, but also in the future 10 years to come.

of course, being specs, life is abit better than we were trainees back then.

imagine:
- 3 consecutive nights off.

- waking up just to consume breakfast, lunch and dinner.

- no neccesity to march around the campus.

- more freedom, OTOT canteen breaks.

that's life for me in 42.
the cutting edge.

on POP:

finally. after 18 weeks. I AM A SERGEANT!

to say the truth, it was mixed feelings for me. it wasnt that kind of happy-yet-sad kind.. just a mixture of feelings. a feeling of accomplishment, relief and jubilance together with anxiety and a tinge of sadness that i m going to leave my buddies who were together with me for the long and tiring 18 weeks of the course.

nevertheless it's over and to tell you guys the truth, im still not very looking forward to going to a unit and live life as a sergeant, as a commander. it just feels so different. i spent the first 10 mths of my army life being a trainee. being someone who has been led and not leading people. and now im expected to go to a unit and lead 7 men who are going to look up to me. im not very sure of my leadership ability loh. even staff ken says that i need to polish up abit. sighs.

anyway. in retrospect the AISL course was really one that was considered pretty tough in my army life (considering that i was from hawk in BMT and golf in sispec). and of course i had the prestige to be in platoon 4 section 1, aka STAFF KEN's SECTION. it's thanks to him that my mental and physical strength was stretched to the limits. it's the 1st time that i cleared my SOC. and who can ever forget all the pushups that the section had and all the flying CVC helmets that we encountered during our section training? hah!

i really want to thank my section mates for pushing and guiding me during these 18 weeks. all those stupid quarrels and fights and all the talkcock sessions were really unforgettable. the friendship that we have forged is unbreakable. may us remember the teachings of staff ken and bring them on when we go into our unit.

and to lau and shijin: congrats on getting your golden and silver bayonets respectively! :)

of course.. i hav made more buddies here than in anywhere else. it's just so different. the 2 plaoons stay at the same floor and we get to interact with each other. it's different from the rest of the courses where only 1 platoon lives on 1 floor and then everyone only bothers to interact with their own platoon. and not to forget, 18 weeks really allows one to know others much much better.

AISL.. unforgettable :)

on maf:

it's great to be back in hwachong again. to see the familiar faces all around me. to keep in contact with others, not just my classmates and my CCA friends. to be part of the hwachong FARMERLY again. too bad i missed the lightup. but hey who really gave a damn abt the lightup! what's more impt was the dance and songs session. the whole class basically went mad dancing and singing; we formed circles and swayed with the music. and doing stupid stunts like turning around and around when the cirlce was formed by around 30+ people. everyone nearly fell down! but it was still fun.

the turnout was good compared to last year. 20 pple turnup! yea!

我们不曾动摇~

多少次的热泪满眶
总有你陪在我身旁

3 weeks. 21 days.

and here i am back in singapore again.

the taiwan trip was indeed memorable and unforgettable. both in good and bad ways. training was ok but the part on servicing and maintanence was hell. imagine no sleep thanks to cleaning of arms. but then again, RnR was simply heaven. i ate and played and shopped till i dropped.

3 days of RnR was simply not enough! UGH.

weather in taiwan's much better than that in singapore. it's hot in the day. but HEY! the weather's not humid at all and all the sweat gets evaporated almost instantly. and we dont feel sticky during training. so that's not so bad. and at night it gets pretty cooling till the extent that we feel we are actually directly under aircon when we were merely exposed to the cold wind.

as i was saying, RnR was heaven. but it would be a bit boring if i blurted everything out on words. and they say that a picture speaks a thousand words. so come and appreciate my 6000-word entry below :)
