went back to school with corporal nelly to collect my A lvl cert. as expected, my chem s didnt appear on the cert. sighs the result of getting a U for chem s during As..
after that went to visit the juniors, who were having their concert in 4 days' time, again. can see that they were sweating it out every single minute they had, perfecting all the scores and trying to solve all the minor glitches and problems in the various songs. looking at them somehow reminded me of my jc days, where we were busily preparing for our concert too. ah the memories... but today didnt seem good for them. the atmosphere was unusually tense and i could see people getting pissed off. or hor that's not good. hope that the current SL (aka monkey/kapo/tadpole) can do something about it, cause if the section is disunited (oops is there such a word) no matter how hard one tries it wont produce good music.
4 more days to hell. and this is so horrible. the whole world except me has watched Xmen3. so damn i dont have anyone to go out with. and damn! my brother has been begging me to bring him along to watch Xmen3 tmr, if im actually going to watch. DAMN do i seem that i have a choice?
zzZ.

argh! all 3 phones look cool, have cool features and unique functions. and best of all.. apart from 6280 the rest are not 3G phones! woo.. ok it's not that i hate 3G phones. it's just that at this age i dont really see the use of it so i dont find 3G phones practical. argh!!! I WANT ALL!!!!!!!
eugene is jealous and envious as he sees people around him having cool phones while what he has is only a..

for the 2 years of his NS life.. grr..
eugene is jealous..

"at the crack of dawn, you shall savour the sweetness of victory... and you shall be known as SISPEC warriors."
with pride we lead, sispec! wow.. the feeling of POP, and the feeling of being a CPL. cool sia... but yea.. this time's POP wasnt easy. especially when we POP immediately after the 28km route march.
28km. sounds easy lah.. only 4 more cliques after our BMT route march. but we marched from 9 - 5. not 9am to 5pm. but from 9pm to 5am. yups we marched throughout the night. marched until the zea monster (zzZ zzZ zzZ) attacked us and some of us were even sleeping as we walked along the roads of NTU.. amazing huh. in retrospect i wonder how i actually managed to finish the route march. it's really thanks to the indomitable fighting spirit that we have..
our graduation march kicked off at 9pm on fri after the warm up. for many of us, our spirits were low... we just groaned and moaned and we didnt want to move. but thanks to the background music of matsuri and the flames around the chevron square, our spirits were boosted. the start of the march was always the hardest - it's hard to take the 1st step. but once we make the 1st step everything seemed ok alr.. our platoon was quiet throughout the march. i think we sang songs for less than 1/2 of the march.. so pathetic right. and for me who needs to sing alot during the marches.. this march was a TORTURE to me.. imagine EUGENE LIM cant talk and sing at all! argh.. esp when we marched along the roads of NTU and we couldnt sing as we would be disturbing those who are
merry-making sleeping in the hostels.. lol..
to sidetrack. NTU IS DAMN BIG.. wtf more than 4km to walk the whole NTU..
back to main content. thanks to not singing and talking i got so sian during the route march and nothing much could be done to distract me from my march. and then fatigue + the zea monster came in.. zzZ. that was around my 20th clique. my shoulder was aching and my feet felt heavy.. practically i was dragging my feet along the tar roads by that time. owell.. at least we got 100 plus during our break after marching for 16km! that's shiok man.. and we had bananas too.. wah sugar high alr. after finsihing our 24km we took a rest that was shorter tahn usual.. around 10 min liddat and we cheonged back to coyline! WOOHOO! morale was super high already.. we were singing army songs like no one else's business and basically everyone was super motivated to walk back and complete the march even though we are drained both physically and mentally.
no one in our platoon fell out. good job platoon 3!
after the long march we went up to bunk. bathed and prepared for the POP. it was a simple yet signficant one for me, esp when one has just finished overcoming all odds to emerge victorious. blah im exaggerating but to me the feeling was simply great to stand hard on the ground of chevron square and waiting for PC to stick my CPL rank onto my shoulders. when warrant loke came and pasted the scenerio was pretty funny: i was the last to have my rank put on and i stood the longest -duh-. by the time PC came i was nearly dozing off. when he put the ranks on my shoulders, he purposely whacked my shoulders so hard that i jerked and nearly fell down on the floor. it was like so lame lah.. then he went saying that i can endure so long for 28km but yet when he PRESSED the chevrons on my shoulder i nearly pengsan? like HEY! U WHACK DAMN HARD LEH! (of course i didnt say taht to him lah)
after that we sang the school song TWICE. the excuse was to let us understand the true meaning of the school but actually the real reason was simply because we sang too softly le. lol.. the highlight of the day was actually the posting itself. miraculously no matter how fucked up i was in BSLC i didnt get posted to ASLC. i got AHHHHHHHHHHHHmour. like omg.. i think it's more jialat than infantry lah. sungei gedong camp.. in the middle of lim chu kang area. like WTF?! but owell. 16 more platoonmates going there with me. and 2 sectionmates too! kudos to my buddy, shaoqi and drug addict for making it into the PTI course. -envious sia- anyway only 3 guys went into ASLC and they are either malays or PRs. and they were like so sian loh.. sighs. well hope to meet up some time soon..
many of them are having course on monday while i have my 1 week block leave. better make good use of it sia.. :)

im currently in the coy's i-net using the computer. so shiok right. dont envy me ok.. cus the rest of the coy had nights out! ARGH so sian ok.. just because i reported sick yesterday. thanks to the fever in the middle of the night and the unbearable bodyache, sniffy and runny nose thanks to my flu. ARGH. and thanks to that i didnt do the 16km route march.
ARGH! so sian lah. while the rest of the coy were happily singing songs while marching inside the camp, i was happily cleaning the coy office and then cleaning my rifles. zzZ.
att b = saigang warrior sia. sians!!!!!
and i didnt do anything today also. except being placed as a sentry for this run for selected master sgts and WOs for this exchange prog b/w US and SG. basically to get into this programme they had to run 20km in 3 hours. if that sounds easy, wait. they had to run in FBO aka
FULL BATTLE ORDER. like wth lah. normal people like us march for 20km also take longer than 3 hours sia. not to say RUN. and these MSGs and WOs are like how old already. then they run until they really want to die. my heart ached for them and i really respected them sia. "i overcome adversity with my fighting spirit." how true..
well, i was posted there from 6.30am all the way until 11am. a total of 4.5 hours. luckily for me there was this NS man (reservice) being placed as a sentry too. he's a 2SG, 31 and he works as an engineer. we had a fun time talking about everything under the sun. from his work to HC to golf to.. army. haha thanks to him it wasn't very boring for me. :) after the sentry i watched the coy having ICCT. basically it was a tekaning session lah. not that i dont want to say, but these CCT pple are just corporals and yet they think they are very big shot. they treat privates exactly the same way as they treat recruits sia. without any much respect. actually the programme itself was fun. but it was the 3 instructors that spoilt everything. owells -shrugs-
oh before i forget. on monday we had AOC (additional obstacle course) and COC (confidence obstacle course). COC was crap. like playground liddat. but AOC was challenging, especially the 5m canvas jump. basically as the name suggests we had to jump down from a 5-metre platform and land on a canvas which was pulled taut by 28men. the experience was excruciating. everything was fine until i climbed up to the platform and looked down. and for a moment i wanted to back out. my knees were as wobbly as jelly and my heart was beating like no-one else's business. it felt even scarier when i put 1 leg out in the air and prepared for the jump. but somehow i picked up the courage and put the other leg forward into the air and POOF IT BECAME COCO-CRUNCH! no lah. and i just fell down. luckily not much injury when i landed on the canvas, thanks to my platoon mates :) but something bad happened to mr bean. he didnt land properly and as a result he dislocated his elbow. omg.. everyone just went O.O as he was screaming in deep pain.. hope he recovers soon yea :)
after that in the evening i had this happy hour thingy. basically it was a steamboat dinner. for section 3 the dinner sucked lah. the soup rarely boiled and thanks to mr old man winston tan the steamboat was full of EGGS. eyeur. imagine that. but the good thing was that we had beer :) but then again the beer was army beer, so anyone can imagine how awful it tasted. nevertheless i drank like 3 cans lah. nothing better to do. and that's where my flu worsened and my fever developed :(
ok lah.. now one of my sgts is also using the computer beside me and he's cursing and swearing any moment. before he sees me writing bad stuffs about him i better stop here. tata. hope to have a new entry soon.

alright. a short one before booking in.
tmr's the last week of BSLC. kinda looking forward to it yet i dont want it to end. cause i will really really miss golf coy sia. :(
oh a happier note, i went to watch 2 movies over the weekend! 1st was over the hedge. i watched with lixiang and captain-in-the-making zhiyong. (yes he's going into nus med) the movie was great! short and sweet and simple! and the animations were not rigid at all... and best of all, the characters were funny! the movie kept the 3 of us laughing non-stop for 1.5 hours till all of us complained that we had a tummyache after the movie! lol. and oh. we saw sunny in the cinema too! (wow.. -_-)
i just came back from PS. watched The DaVinci Code with lj sherman oon and kenneth (sorry guys for being late :P) well... i should say that the movie is abit overrated. it's hard to cramp everything into 2.5 hours. and as such some parts are cut while other parts were hanging loose. but overall i would say that the movie was enjoyable although it was abit cheem. i liked the way that the movie was filmed - very mysterious and as though the audience were brought into the movie itself. yups it was worth my $8.50. :)
well.. may is the month of movies! i still havent watched MI3 and X men 3! yea.. guess i will have entertainment at the expense of my wallet. sobs it's getting flatter and flatter each day. :(

@
9 more hours to booking-in. damn.. how come time just flies so fast? i have officially used up my 2 days of my 3-day quota.
anyway. to continue from the previous post, i had my MOE interview straight after my nutcracker. well imagine going for the interview unprepared and zombified. yups.. i was too tired to even start panicking when i didnt know how to answer some of the questions! well.. i think the interview went QUITE ok overall.. it was more of a chit-chat session than a formal interview i guess. the interviewers kept asking me to talk about my NS experiences. then they asked me about learning points in NS that could be applied to schooling, and whether guys should go NS. lol.. think the toughest part of the interview was when they asked me how would i motivate and inspire the students to study better to achieve better results. i couldnt really remember what i said, that means i was crapping already. oh shucks.
think that's all i want to talk about for my MOE interview. cause the main point of this entry would be the class dinner that we had yesterday! whee... response was good. most of us made it for the dinner and yes! gtan was there.. the company was great and we talked about alot of stuffs under the sun.. from army (yea as usual) to uni life to the current status of girls.. yada yada. too bad the place was pathetic. although the food was good it wasnt filling at all and all the guys were complaining about that. but we had to say thanks for shiyun for booking the place as she works inside there and we could get 10% discount for what we ate! =D so that's a worthy-trade off i guess.
got to see the new recruits for the 1st time: william kg and ben. kg still looks pretty thin leh.. but he got significantly tanner, even tanner than me! (cause i have been sweating it out in LONG 4) hopefully by the end of bmt he will gain more weight and look even better! lol..
gtan had to study part time for her masters and she left 1st. what a pity. but hey! we may be calling her doctor tan soon =) anyway we left at around 9+pm and split. some of the guys went to watch FA cup finals (which liverpool only won after penalties and harewood missed an open goal WTF) while the rest of us went to chill out at marina square's carls junior. slacked and rotted there until 1130pm and then went home.
well all in all it was a fruitful day and i got to see my classmates after a few months. really gonna miss them again. but hey! it seems that no-one is going overseas.. lol. so we are still in this small world and we can still hang out with one another after all :)

argh. my wrists hurt. all thanks to the 3-day-2-night-trench-digging aka exercise nutcracker, which was one of the highlights of last week (apart from section live firing, which was a bore. shall talk about that later)
yes. exercise nutcracker. as the name suggests, both of its objectives have been achieved over the period of 3 days and 2 nights:
1) we trainees have learnt how to dig our own shellscrapes and fire trenches, cover the openings of the fire trenches with FOPK and camoflauging it.
2) we trainees have our nuts cracked.let's skip the unimportant parts. -fast forward- we were allocated places for our shellscrapes and trenches just before last light. after marking the places using our white tape, DAMN IT HAD TO RAIN. and a heavy one too. zzZ. had to seek shelter in a training shed nearby. after the heavy downpour we went back and started digging. oh my god. MUD. mud that stuck onto our ET blades and was hard to remove when we scooped them up and threw them on one side of the ground. mud that felt so heavy when boots sank into it and one found it hard to lift his feet. mud that felt so yucky when it stuck onto your hands and your face (somehow. or maybe it was just me -_-)..
actually, given the heavy rain the conditions were supposed to be more conducive for digging of the shellscrape. i repeat. SUPPOSED. however, in reality it was untrue. the lack of proper lighting (we had only moonlight and candlelight; L torch wasnt allowed) and other external factors (like itching of the body, aching, etc) came in. what could be done easily in around 1 hour took us more than 2+ hours instead. for me it was even longer. i was pretty unfortuante: my lighter was spoilt in the middle of the night and i had to travel back and forth to my buddy's area to get candlelight. and given my so-called night-blindness, i could hardly see in the middle of the night. furthermore, my body just kept itching and itching for no reason until i spent more time scratching my body instead of digging the shellscrape! think it's the mud that's causing all these problems. haish. by the time i finished my shellscrape winston was on his shellscrape dozing off.
it was around 1am the next morning. fatigue started to set in. luckily we had nights snack - a couple of cakes and milo. somehow it helped to freshen us up for quite a while and make us more alert for fire trench digging. without further ado (aka MAI TU LIAO), everyone gathered their digging equipment and started to dig their trenches. different people had different tactics - some would dig in buddy level, aka both of them dig at the same time. others would choose the 1-dig-1-rest option, aka one would dig while the other would rest. after a while they will alternate and take turns, and so on. for me and winston, we adopted both methods. both of us made up the shape of the fire trench and dug to a certain height, until one of us couldnt take it anymore (i forgot who was the one). then one rested while the other continued to dig. we set an interval of 1 hr for shifts, but then even when one was digging somehow he would doze off while doing so.. lol. like the both of us. when we whacked the chanko into the ground we would just stay in that position for about 30 seconds to 1 minute. then we would suddenly jerk and continue to scoop the soil up the trench. or sometimes we would just stop digging, sit on the side of the trench and sleep..
so we dug and we dug. around 5+ am we decided to speed up by adopting the 1st tactic. we were happily digging when suddenly we heard a loud BOOM! we were so shocked we didnt know what to do; after shouting "CONTACTED!" we quickily jumped into the fire trench to take cover and kept still there until further instructions. we stayed inside there for quite a while and then at the next moment we heard our dearest sgt richard scolding the other platoon mates for skiving during digging. after that the famous "60 counts of 4" was heard followed by "1,2,3,4... 2,2,3,4...". luckily we slept tactically and didnt get caught. otherwise we would have been even more tired. after everything was over we continue to dig. by then fatigue level was very high and movement was very slow.
so we dug and we dug. all the way until 7am where we had stand-to. aka we had to be in our shellscrape in prone-supported position. aka we got to doze off! lol.. well of course i dozed off quite a bit. after stand-to we continued digging until 12+ where we had trench-inspection. luckily my trench passed as it was above chest level, so we got to slack abit in the afternoon while the rest were still digging :)
in the afternoon we had some reinforcement drills. actually i dont know what is that cause i was too tired and my trench was supposed to be a reserved trench in an infantry platoon, so i didnt get to participate much in the drills. just that i dozed off while firing blanks and shouting some codewords! lol.. it was just so so tiring lah. couldnt explain more. after that we packed up our fieldpack! thought we would be leaving the area. well actually we did.. we just walked for a few 100 metres away from the site, had a quick debrief by our PC and then we went pack to cover up the trenches we made. YES u didnt see wrongly. we covered back the trenches with the soil that we had dug out during the 1st day and night. WTF. we were extremely tired already yet we had to hold onto our chanko and ETs somemore. zzZ. we had no choice to scoop back the soil into the holes. finally we finished everything at 3+ am. and dozed off for quite a while before waking up at 6+am the next day to load back stores and touch up on the filled holes. morale was high by that time as we were yearning to go back to camp and bathe!
and then the rest is history.. no lah. the same old stuffs. we took transport back to camp, unloaded stores, washed up and cleaned our weapons. for me i left early as i had to bookout for MOE interview, which i think i flunked totally. shall elaborate more of that in the next entry.
in retrospect nutcracker was an unforgettable experience. it was one that pushed many of us (including me) to our limits, both physically and mentally. imagine staying in mud for 3 days 2 nights?! haha. we had our ups and downs then.. and when do anyone else have the chance to go to a place and dig his or her hearts out?
i mean.. literally.

so fast. 7 weeks have passed. but the next 3 weeks aint gonna be easy.
anyway. dont know why but i am not in the best of moods for this week. felt like an idiot for the whole week. for what i have done. maybe i didnt realise it but the effects were there. argh. never felt so bad. i didnt feel like opening my mouth except to drink, to eat and to pant when feeling shagged out. maybe yongliang is right. i shouldnt ask the wrong questions at the wrong times and i should be more conscious about my surroundings. sighs.. 3 more weeks to go and i dont want to screw it up mans..
enuff of this. this week has been pretty exciting. with the highlights being our exercise
hollander wanderer and chemical defence. wanderer was alright.. my detail was pretty efficient to find the day check points with ease. didnt help with navi cus i was carrying field pack all the way. so i was pacing all the time lah. then came the night checkpoint - DICE. we went to recce in the morning for DICE and we sorta found it - the old SISPEC checkpoint. after confirmation with warrant teo it was said that the new checkpoint was a few metres away from the old one. so at night after much trouble (yea we couldnt see much at night) we reached the old SISPEC checkpoint. from there we proceeded to hunt for the new checkpoint for around 1 + nearly 2 hours, but to no avail. sighs. so we decided to have exercise cut and return to end point. but good old junhao went to holland and we had a hard time bashing through the woods, especially at night. and i think there' s this problem with me: i got slight night-blindness. dont know why but the others could see abit when i cant see almost totally. so scary lah. and there's night firing on sunday. i have reported my so-called night-blindness problem to warrant chua. so see how on sunday. pray hard i dont kill anyone ok..
the next highlight was chem def. yups finally something which is more relevant to the 21st-century singapore, instead of the jungle warfare blah blah. chem def was fun actually. wearing the gas mask which almost made everyone in the platoon suffocate and feel giddy. and go into the gas chamber to cry like a madman until people think that you are grieving over someone who passed on. let me quote my senior hansheng for his experience in chem def, cus it's similar to mine and of course im too lazy to blog abt it.
"gas! gas! gas!
the 3 words sent all of us scrambling for our gas masks as we turn around to face our back against the wind and fit the masks over our faces, all in 9 seconds. whenever a single person could not do it in time, everyone was forced to repeat it oer and over again. "this could one day save your life!" barked our instructor as we grumbled after yet another failed try.
this is what it was like on wed during our chemical defense course, which lasted 2 days, the first of which consisted mainly of some theory as well as the learning and practising of drills and how to don our suits properly. the second day consisted of a short trip to the gas chamber, where we were exposed to tear gas to experience its effects.
after everyone managed to get a hang of putting on the masks in time, we learnt how to further suit up to get to MOPP (Mission Oriented Protective Posture) [don't ask me who comes up with these names] Level 4. That includes wearing the overgarments, overboots and gloves. After that, we were made to do various drill such as the decontamination drill, which involves taking off your hood and mask and using a special powdered glove to absorb any possible chemical contaminents on the face, after which the hood and mask goes back on. To make things a bit more challenging, all that has to be done while you are holding your breath and keeping your eyes shut. Oh, did i mention we had to powder our gas mask too, to remove contaminents before we put it back on? If we don't blow out hard enough to clear the powder from our masks, we get a faceful of powder when we try to breath in again.
other interesting drills include the drinking drill, which reminds me of an IV, since we have to connect the drinking tube on our masks to our water bottle and hold the bottle above our heads to get the water flowing, the urinating drill and the defecating drill. Lucky we didnt have to do the last two.after two hours of going through all the drills, we were finally allowed to remove our suits. in just those two hours, the amount of sweat was quite incredible. my underwear and shorts were completely soaked right through. it would have been worse if not for the fact that we were not wearing any shirt underneath the suits.
the next day, bright and early, we went down to pasir laba camp to make use of the cs smoke trainer there. it was actually just a sealed room where we could be exposed to controlled amounts of cs gas (chemical name 2-Chlorobenzyline malononitrile; not like i know what the heck that is...haha...). we were split up into groups of 12 and the groups took turns to go into the chamber. it was a rather disturbing sight to see people from the groups that went in before us stumbling out of the chamber, choking and coughing. they were made to line up in one line facing a fence with their hands supporting themselves on the fence while they waited for the effect of the gas to wear off, constantly being reminded not to scratch their faces if they did not want to be permanently disfigured.
finally it was our turn to enter the chamber. giving each other encouraging pats, our group cautiously entered the chamber. as i entered the chamber, the faint smell of a pungent gas hit me and i semi-panicked as i thought my gas mask was leaking. the other guys were also quite worried that they could smell the gas. only after assurances by our trainer that it was normal to smell a bit of the gas and that it was too little to cause us much discomfort did we relax slightly. not for long though. We were quickly made to do push-ups and jumping jacks to get us used to moving around in the suit and also to check if we wore the suit properly and without leaks. after that came the rather dreaded task of removing our hood and mask to shout our name and nric before we were allowed out of the chamber. we were also forced to open our eyes. this ensures that we all get to experience the effects of the cs gas on our face and eyes. (nose and throat too for those unlucky enough to inhale a mouthful of gas) for the first second when i took of my hood and mask, i felt nothing. just as i thought it wasn't so bad after all, the effects of the gas hit me like someone just threw a faceful of chilli powder in my face. my eyes watered such that i couldnt see clearly and my face started to sting badly. as we stumbled out blindly from the chamber, we were all led to line up in one line along the fence to wait for the effects of the gas to wear off.
although the effect of the gas wore off rather quickly (within a min or so), it has left a rather lasting impression on me. now i understand what it feels like when i see police firing tear gas at protestors on tv.
moral of the story: don't join in at protests or strikes, especially in the country i live in. not that i see myself joining in the first place la...haha..."
yups that's our chem def. in retrospect it's kinda cool, especially when one gets to feel the effects of CS gas. of course they say that the effects is just 10% of the original tear gas. OMG.. so mad sia.
and yes i got my sispec photo le!
as usual, click on pic to enlarge. and look at our belle! no lah our da jie! it's kinda rare to see female sergeants around these few days..

some random thoughts after seeing my neighbourhood getting pretty "hot" over the elections..
what is the true meaning of democracy? isit just the ability for one to vote alone? or isit the freedom of speech?
some may argue that our society is not democratic enough when they mean it is not liberal enough, thanks to all the censorship issues and blah blah blah. so, where does the fine line lie that distinguishes a society that allows the freedom of speech from another one which is too liberal?
if you guys dont understand what im thinking, it's ok. 'cause it's either my brain is not working properly or my english already cmi. which reminds me. my army friends refuse to believe that i attained an A2 for my GP for A levels. damn. and my sergeant refuses to admit that i was from hwachong. sighs.

i have been wondering where would i go after BSLC, until someone noted that my blanket is of khaki colour instead of the usual green. and it reminds me that my blanket in BMT was also khaki! OMG.. does that mean that i may be wearing the khaki beret instead of the green one? -groans-
