LOTR

we are watching the extended versions of lord of the rings this trip, typical, and today at dinner were talking about some quotes we liked. later my dad was on his laptop trying to find the quotes, only, after a few minutes when we asked him why it was taking him so long to find the quotes we realize that rather than searching online to find the quotes he was skipping through the entire movie with his earphones trying to find the quotes he was looking for. once we realized, i found it online in a jiffy [but he still contends that his way is more accurate].

i love me some frodo and samwise gamgee.

Frodo: I wish the ring had never come to me. I wish none of this had happened.
Gandalf: So do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us. There are other forces at work in this world Frodo, besides the will of evil. Bilbo was meant to find the Ring. In which case, you were also meant to have it. And that is an encouraging thought.

brazillian blowout.

BEFORE:
crazy hair

i know this one is a big frightening...my hair was up beforehand but we wanted a classic "before" picture so the lady at the salon took it down and we snapped one before i looked in the mirrorrr

AFTER:
straight straight straight

okay well it's not actually stick straight like this picture.
the result is wavy hair that is 10 times easier to straighten than before.
it's SO soft, i just can't stop touching it.
it will last about 10-12 weeks and fade out back to my regular old hair.
i like it alot, but in all reality i probably won't do it again, i just like my big curly hair.
but it's a fun adventure, happy about it.

the process for those who care:
it took about 3.5 hours (it was longer on me then normal folks because my hair is so curly/thick, they said originally that it was a 90 minute process.)
first, they wash it with some crazy shampoo that supposedly WASHES it good and strips any hair product that is in there so as to not mess up the process.
next, they brush the product on every bit of hair...this part takes a bit of time just because they make sure to go through every piece of hair.
then they blow dry the hair so it just gets to be a bit of a fro, nothing looks different yet.
then the part that REALLY takes forever is that they straighten every little bit. they do it in little sections and go over it a few times just to make sure that it's absolutely straight, the heat activates the solution that they previously put on.
almost done, they rinse the hair with coldish water then condition it
and finally they blow dry it straight/straighten it and voila! done.

is it actually october?

somewhere along the line we started a fake tradition (fake meaning it doesn't happen every year) of my family coming down for conference/joslin & alek's bday. it's a great tradition, i support it. we all stay at lindsays for the weekend (thanks for that!!), eat some yogurtland, and enjoy each other's company. it always goes too quickly.

let's not also forget to mention that hannah had her dream come true, she took a picture with jimmer.

"The submission of one's will is really the only uniquely personal thing we have to place on God's altar. The many other things we 'give,'... are actually the things He has already given or loaned to us. However, when you and I finally submit ourselves, by letting our individual wills be swallowed up in God's will, then we are really giving something to Him! It is the only possession which is truly ours to give!

first day of school

the tradition of taking the first day of school picture right in front of the door continues.

old post here, from sophomore year. which is pretty funny.

also, can we talk about how my hair is huge like a lion these days? what's up with that?

HP

okay, i can't get enough of harry potter right now. i'm not much of a harry potter movie fan (so sue me) or i guess i wasn't until i saw 7.2. but wow was that a good one. so i hadn't seen any of the other movies, except a few random ones, probably number one, and number 3 in german. my family was going to watch this last one at midnight and we pulled into town for this last visit at about 11:30 just in time to join them in line for the movie. i loved it, and it reminded me how much i've missed these guys the past few years. so of course i've been re-reading the series. how about number two and that old tom tricking ginny! how about how funny ron is in all of the books! i mean i really can't get enough of these books.

how about neville and malfoy looking GOOD right here? who saw that coming?

i started reading the first one on the drive back to provo and was making lo, kar, and jos about crazy because i kept having to read them paragraphs outloud because they were either so funny or just emotional! i just kept saying "one more!!" i was laughing outloud (out LOUD!) crying and just loving it. i'm only on the third one right now and joslin and i are on the same book (hate that) so having to share it. good news is that we're heading back up to mccall in 5 days so there will be plenty of reading time!

i'll leave you with this:

words are, in my not so humble opinion,
our most inexhaustible source of magic.

mccall

jos and i were able to leave work for a weekend and the trips (well lo and kar) missed a few days of school and we headed up to mccall. what a great weekend we had. it was primarily to celebrate the trips bday, they're 19! we had a great time.

first of all the weather was great. i was a bit concerned as i checked out the weather every second leading up to our trip but it was SO good. and we had some good clouds.

who knew that we would really love this old boat as much as we do. we call it the dingy [well, maybe that's the name of these things, we probably didn't make that up] and kade and claire love to take us out for a spin, this time i showed kade that i knew what was up and took him for a ride.

our uncles have a jet ski and let us borrow it. holla!! hannah is a maniac and watch OUT if she takes you.

our cousin jaiden is a DOLL.

we love mccall.

joslin, hannah and i getting ready for the craziest jet ski ride ever. glad that was documented because it was seriously crazy. hannah told us she would "go easy" because jos and i and especially joslin didn't want to go crazy so hannah pinky swore. once we were out on open water hannah forgot and things got crazy. but it was actually really fun, i thought. thanks han!

overall, a great trip. fun with the family, got some much needed tan, played tennis in the rain, ate at my father's place, got a long skirt at the thrift store for 7 dollars (needs to be altered but i'll share that once it's finished), and had a nice break from work. good thing we're going back up there in another 2 weeks for the farmer reunion!

phone pictures are my fave

and they all just so happen to all deal with food.

yes i made this beautiful loaf of bread.
and it tasted just as good as it looks.
i need to make that again now that i think about it.
recipe found here.

do you all know how much i love eggs?
especially with some sauteed mushrooms?
for awhile i was SO good at making a good breakfast every morning.
i've kind of slacked off since i've been getting up so early for the wholee dang summer but wow i need to get back in that habit. maybe post this picture by my bed.

this place was a pulled pork shack in downtown seattle.
well maybe that wasn't the purpose of the whole shack...but that's what they were famous for?
maybe my dad needs to clarify.
either way, my dad used to go here all the time when he worked in seattle.
and when we were here for mon's wedding he was dying to visit.
even though it looks soo sick, and messy [because it was] it was soo so good.

um wow, everyone knows i love a good donut, well, especially a cake donut.
but especially especially buttermilk donuts from hillcrest bakery in bothell.
so good that it had to be documented.

germany friends!
we found our favorite "R" cookies.
aka manner cookies.
what a treat. we all split the bag since it was 9 bucks.
and you better believe we counted out the cookies.
have to make it fair you know!

tennis

one time my sisters played in a state tennis tournament and i never blogged about it. the thing is that i'm really proud of them so i'm going to blog [aka brag] about them now even though it is 2 months late.

jami played womens doubles and got first in state
lauren played mixed doubles and got first in state
hannah played womens doubles and got third in state
karli played mixed double and got fourth in state (after having torn her ACL and was out half of the season. impressive.)

joslin and i went up for the state tournament and we were so hoping that they would atleast make it to the second day of state (not get eliminated the first day) so that we could see them play and they did even better and played both days and placed! it was crazy having to watch all four sisters play in 4 different matches, we had to hop around, even to two different locations throughout the tournament. so glad that we could be there to see them and cheer them on loudly- even if it embarrassed hannah.

cell phone pictures here we come.

best gas station on the way from provo to fruitland. the interior is the best, they have tin can payphones (local calls only), sketchy bathrooms, wooden rings for only $2.99, and baby rattlesnakes for display. by best gas station i mean weirdest gas station.

biggest fans!
well me too, duh.

i know this picture is terrible and i'm SORRY but it had to be shared. i mean, their matching hats, adorable.

look at my dads face here, my dad was attentive like that the whole day. he was on top of things and was usually updating their coach about the game scores around. instead of the other way around. we love him.

we didn't think it was going to be that hot so i was literally wearing jeans. doesn't have much to do with the picture but just saying.

GO HANNAH. we were going berserk shouting for her this whole time because it was an intense match that meant, if she lost she was eliminated.  she played great and beat our rival team! we were pumped.

tennis tan line!
i'm not going to say the name of who this is, you know who you are.
any guesses??

winners!
sisters!
state champs!!

trips!
graduates!
haha okay i'm done.

but really aren't these girls cute?

it's been a long break.

but i'm back.

this is the thing.
it's hard to blog when don't have a computer that works properly.
my old computer had a hard time with some things, watching DVDs, operating without the battery [there was no battery], sometimes just clicking to a new tab on the internet caused all sorts of problems. that spinning wheel and i became great friends. so i just didn't get on the computer alot, especially once i got email on my phone. i also didn't respond to most emails [sorry to the general public {monica}].  so, well, i bought a new computer.

solved that problem.  no more spinning wheels. no more cords.
and i can blog again!
lucky you.
well, lucky me.

somebody's having a birthday

this girl:

what a cutie, eh?

this girl sure knows how to make everyone laugh.
all she has to do is start quoting a few of my favorite movie quotes (over and over, and over, and over again) and i'm sure to be rolling.
can't quite beleive she's 16 today!! a bit crazy. but exciting.
if she could only graduate and get up to BYU already...

happy birthday dear!

basketball season is over

so this should probably be my last post about basketball, but let's be honest, won't you miss it?? i'm sad it's over.

and you've got to watch this video.
they played it as a commercial for byu during these last few games we've had in the tournament and i think it's just great; a great representation of byu/the church and i mean just a cool basketball video!

basketball, again.

these were taken after the last home game for BYU, when we had won the mountainwest championship title. it was such a fun game, afterwards they had a minor celebration, complete with confetti and all. since i work for byu (i have an internship with byu marketing for those of you who didn't know!!) i got to be on the court for all of it, it was so great.

who is going to be watching the game tomorrow?!!
i'll be watching it on my phone during my stupid class that's 4:00-6:30. i even emailed my teacher to ask if it was canceled because of the game but no response...yet. i accidentally skipped the last two weeks of class so i can't skip this one too, what horrible planning!

on another note, my family is in town!
they arrived tonight. i'm home doing homework (clearly) so that i can party with them the rest of the weekend.

two things

make that three.

1. i have red hair.
2. we've been having a bit of fun taking pictures on my new fancy phone. that's the best part of the whole phone.

3. how much fun is byu basketball right now? we're ranked #3 in the nation for those of you who didn't know. how fun that i am working there during all of this, i'm loving it. WOW. mom dad and some sisters are coming down for the game tomorrow, yay!
