Rock Climbing… Last week I started a rock climbing class. I was under the impression that it was a beginning class and that I wouldn’t have to be stressed out about the strenuousness of the activity. When I arrived it was apparent that it may be more difficult than I first expected. My first clue was that I was one of only two people who signed up for the class. We had two instructors (or belayers). I basically was taught how to put equipment on and then was hooked up to the belay equipment and prompted to climb the wall. Huh? No directions or tips? I figured these teenaged instructors must follow the trial by fire type of instruction so I went for it. Halfway up the wall my legs and arms were shaking and the kid on the floor kept saying “It’s okay, trust me, I’ve got you.” Then he kept telling me which leg or arm to move so I could continue my climb. I kept thinking, “Does he realize I’m just clinging to the wall in hopes of not falling off… I don’t care if I move forward any more, I’m just trying to keep myself from dying at this point because there is no way his 90 lbs is going to do anything but slow down my quick decent from the second story height I’ve climbed to.” By the end of the hour I had rested about 30 minutes of the 60 minute class and spent the rest of the time trying to climb the wall. I was sore for about days and I'm not sure if I'm looking forward to the next class or not... put it's been pre-paid for and I always try things at least twice.
Weight loss... The last time I saw the nutritionist I had lost 29 lbs of fat and gained 11 lbs of muscle. I am very close to being back to my high school graduation weight. If holidays like Easter and parties (like Bunco) come around less I'll be able to loose the weight faster. In addition to the rock climbing I've also been doing water aerobics and sitting in the sauna(which I've heard helps get rid of water retention and helps with weight loss).
In celebration of Easter here is an old family video.
