here's to a stellar* long weekend

my weekend began yesterday,
with a great koninginnedag (queens day) celebration with old & new friends in groningen
dancing in the street
playing "spot the sober person"
card games in the park
dinner at a great hidden gem of a greek restaurant
laughter, good food, and conversations about travel

the day ended with janet and i not being let onto the train because it was filled. to. capacity.
chris kindly offered to drive us home & i thankfully took a nap in back while they chatted

now off to the market with sarah & her aunt wait patiently for the plumber to come & fix my 'no hot water' situation
and the electrician to fix my "no heating" problem

fear

i go to bed with this fear of fallling asleep.

strange yes, but true nonetheless

so much so, that i've been dozing off on the couch lately

i then wake up with a fear that the day will go by too quickly

i end of the week with a fear that the months will pass me by too quickly,

and soon i'll have to end my european adventure

i fear not having work,

not having a steady income

i fear regret

having not tried enough or rather, not hard enough

i fear losing a sense of self,

then wondering who exactly this "self" is

is it possible to have a mid-life crisis at 25?

that is the nature of my fear.

saturday in brussels

remember when i felt exhausted?

friend nikki came to visit & we decided that a roadtrip was due

so, brussels, belgium it was!

being only a 3hr drive from me, it was the ideal place

the weather was perfection.

the food was delicious.

the markets were colourful.

the people were grumpy...to those who don't speak french.

oh & h&m had a sale - yay.

*parking garages, near the city centre are not so easy to find - but can be found with a trusty tomtom.

we found one {name?} that was relatively inexpensive - €7.80 for 4hours is a bargain! 

considering, that parking in amsterdam can easily be €8 p/hour

i found brussels pleasantly refreshing, in that the city centre wasn't too busy

it wasn't crowded with tourists {which is always a plus}
& the music on the street corners added to the ambience.

i loved the cobblestone streets,
the man selling fresh strawberries in the street

the grand architecture
hearing french & dutch at once
seeing high hippies dancing in the middle of it all
belgian waffles and chocolate (oh, be still my heart)

and mostly, noticing that as fascinating as this city was for me, the locals enjoy it just as much.

our little daytrip did nothing for my physical exhaustion, but did so much for me emotionally
 what can i say, i'm a restless soul.
