so i forgot all about this blog thing. i think its time i added something. anyways for those that were too lazy to go find out what Phos Hilaron is, imma let you know right now. Phos Hilaron is an old old old old hymn that the church used to sing...actually its the oldest hymn that we know now. the hymn is so ancient that even as early as the 4th century it was considered an ancient hymn. heres what it is. after Jesus' death and resurrection, jerusalem was invaded and destroyed. when they rebuilt the temple years later, they built the church right on Jesus' tomb, the spot where he resurrected. now think about that for a while. imagine going to church right on the spot where the son of God rose to conquer sin once and for all. wow. hang on though, it gets better. throughout the week, the church would keep a candle lit in the tomb, at all times. then when the church would meet for evening prayer services, the candle would be taken out of the tomb and walked right into the sanctuary where the congregation was attending. imagine that. Jesus Christ, light of the world, still burning bright. and after the candle had been brought in, this is the hymn that they would corporately read. Phos Hilaron. now think about that. you're reading something that saints recited centuries ago on the tomb of Jesus Christ. breathe it in.

Hail, gladdening Light, of his pure glory poured
Who is the immortal Father, heavenly, blest,
Holiest of Holies, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Now we are come to the sun's hour of rest,
The lights of evening round us shine,
We hymn the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit divine.

Worthiest art thou at all times to be sung
With undefiled tongue,
Son of our God, giver of life alone:
Therefore in all the world thy glories, Lord, thy own.
