Lord help the mister who comes between me and my Sister!

I spoke with my sister today, I could tell I was going to pitch in and help her get her house ready. She's a busy gal, RN, long hours, and sometimes sisters just need each others help. Plus, I don't mind rummaging around her house, you see, we were cut from the same cloth. She loves to collect as much as I do. I also needed some pictures for a new post, so on my way I went. Oh, how I wish I would have had more time to concentrate on taking pictures, but I needed to remember she had me coming over for another purpose. Focus Glenda! So I have posted just a few items that I lust over, and I want to secretly put in my shirt pocket, if they would fit, and run out the door. She loves old brown bottles, maps, trophy cups, souvenir pillows; and she also loves things I make for her. Yes, the last picture is the paperweight I made. I did come home with a couple of goody bags. Thanks sis! Have fun with your gal pals from work.

Diamond in the Rough

Well, there we go ladies. Here are the pictures of my next project, as promised. Oh, I know it looks icky; but she is certainly a diamond in the rough. I love these old tool chests, the compartments, the old hardware, and the casters. Plus, this one is also a great height. There are so many possibilities, a kitchen island, tool box that it is, or just a great piece for a corner of the room. These are all good ideas, but I have other plans for her, and I can't wait to get started. First things first, this tool chest can't go anywhere till it has had a proper bathe. This will be a work in progress. No need to worry, you will be the first to see the after pics.

Everlasting Words!

"The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of our God will stand forever."

Today was a day of yard work. The weather was perfect for this work; and so many of my flowers needed trimming. As I listened to the hum of the trimmer and mowers in the distance, this verse kept running through my mind. When my mom had died, and many flowers of condolence filled my home, I was given this verse. It came to me as I was sobbing one day and turning the pages of my bible begging for answers. I found these words to bring me the most comfort. That was many years ago. Now as the days grow closer, on the anniversary of my fathers death, I find myself weeping in the quiet moments. Today was that kind of day. So through the tears I just put my hands deeper into the dirt and worked that much harder. I miss them both, not one more than the other; and if given the chance I would only want to see them together.

This week I will show you the before pictures of my new project. I will also introduce you to the owners of the antique mall where my space of loved junk is for sale.

My project is completed!

Wow just when I thought I was on a roll, side tracked again, but I finally finished my twenty dollar garage sale find. I wanted so badly to show you before pictures; but someone deleted them, me. Techie I am not. So here are after photos for you, hope you like.
The cabinet was a honey colored wood, so I knew that it would need to be painted. I also knew I would replace the back of the cabinet with bead board to give the cabinet a more farmhouse feel. Glass was removed from the doors, along with the crown molding and replaced with an architectural piece of salvage I had on hand. Now to the adornments, I used burlap to make curtains, rusted fencing to replace the glass, and ribbon as the finishing touch.
Just for you, I hung a chandie in front of the cabinet for a quick pic. I will be starting my next project in a couple of days, and will post before pictures at that time. Look where I've been!

I just found out about a great boutique that opened on July 1st. The name is Marigolds Uncommon Home & Garden. It's darling I tell you, darling. There were gifts, vintage items, and fresh flowers. The shopkeeper, Mary, well what can I say, this has been dream of hers for a long time. She's friendly and spunky and was sewing cushions on her work table and talking with customers at the same time. I adore her already and barely know her. She was more than gracious when I asked for a few pictures. If you get a chance, and you live in the area stop and say hey! You will not be disappointed.

A Sneek Peek

A recent purchase of mine at a yard sale, a very ugly Early American china cabinet. I know your asking why, if your like me I am repulsed by honey colored wood, but there was something about that cabinet, and twenty dollars later well you know how the story goes. With labor and love, the cabinet has been painted, distressed, adorned, and waxed; well almost. More pictures to come.
