August Favorites

HI.

Wowza long time no see. (I really need to stop saying that).
But guys really it has been a long time...? Do people still use blogger....?!!??

Anyway. LETS DO THIS.
1. THE WAR. I am so into WW2 right now. I have been watching Ken Burns: The War (its on Netflix wink wink) and re-reading the Children of the Promise books. And listening to a lot of 1940's music. (OMG I AM SO HIPSTER). But really I'm loving it lately.

Watching the war has really got me thinking about survival. These people had to SURVIVE through so much. Whether they were a POW or a nurse in the navy they were troopers (paratroopers..?? pun intended).

As most of you know I have a mission call to Guatemala and I leave Oct 2. To answer any questions YES the thought of living there scared me and YES the thought of learning spanish scared me. BUT the more I read/watch about WW2 the more I realize I don't just have to survive this mission like the soldiers did. I get to go help people and teach them about the church. I get to learn spanish. I get to do this and there won't be Nazi's trying to kill me or I won't be a Japanese American in a prison camp. I get to go so why was I scared? I got too caught up in what scared me that I forgot why I am going! I am going because I love God and I love the church, and I am not scared anymore (I'm actually freakin' excited!!) because I can do hard things... and that realization, my friends, is an August favorite.

^^My legitimate reaction when I first saw Guatemala. haha!^^
2. (Future missionary alert *warning* *warning* *warning*)

3. So, some of you may not know this but I am indeed a girl.... and being a girl I do enjoy girly things every now and then. I am also a lover of a good make up product. My current favorite find is using lipstick (just like this cheap Revlon one that I got for like $2.99) as a blush. It has the same look as a cream blush... I rub a bit onto the back of my hand (BECAUSE IM SO PROFESSIONAL I CAN'T EVEN HANDLE IT) and rub it in with my fingers or use a small blush brush...but IDK GUYS I REALLY LIKE IT QUIT JUDING ME.
4. James Taylor last night (yeah yeah I know it is technically in Sept... but whatever). Oh my heck. I love him so much. Always have, always will. I was pretty much in tears from the moment he got on stage to the last song. Not in like a gross fangirl kind of way though. His music means so much to me, and to sit there in between my parents listening to him sing with MoTab meant the world. When I put in my mission papers I secretly hoped I would leave after he came. Dreams come true everyone.

5. I have a new favorite YOUTUBE video. It's only a minute long... but trust me you can spare a minute for this gem.

And if you are still with me and have a few more minutes to spare (you totally do, don't lie) watch this.

THAT LAST LADY am I right?

Ok well I love you all and you have a good one, ya hear?

I'm on a roll!!

Hey Hi... you didn't think you'd be hearing from me again this soon did you?!? SURPRISE!

So, I've been meaning to do a post about my birthday (not that anyone ACTUALLY cares..) but on my last post I honestly completely forgot. (Just another example of how I'm a complete airhead)... Then my dearest Lauren (aka LALA) commented and said "Wasn't your birthday a march favorite"? Hahaha yes. It sure was.

And a great  birthday it was I'd say... I mean I've had better, but a girl can't complain. It was on a monday... which sucked. But my family celebrated with me the weekend before. We went to OZ the Great and Powerful.

Now, some of you might not know this, but The Wizard of Oz holds such a special place in my heart. When I was a youngin' I used to watch it ALL the time. When I was like 10 we visited the birthplace of Frank L. Baum and I was elated. I have seen/read everything "behind the scenes" of that movie (which is a LOT). You didn't think I could get more awkward or un-relatable, did you? Anyway, so I loooooved the new movie. Then we went to Red Iguana which was a great choice if I do say so myself.

I just realized that this recap is really borrrrring so I'm going to cut to the chase. Every year I realize more and more just how nice the people in my life are. I am so lucky to know all the people I do. THAT being said, my friends sure did have fun finding stalker pics/horrible pics of me and posting them on social media. Here are a few examples...

nice, eh?

ANWAY. Shout-out to everyone for making my birthday special. Sister Busk even wrote me a poem and sent me a Palm Springs magnet! What a girl.

But on my actual birthday I took a test and got a hair cut. Brace yourselves... those of you who haven't seen me... because my hair is SIGNIFICANTLY short. We are talking like 7 inches off here.

Here is a nice pic I took to send to my parents to show them. I would take another one but I look like crap right now.. not that I look GOOD in this pic, but you know what I mean...?

I apparently have a stink eye as well? Cute.

OOOOOK. Love you all.

I have one heck of a SOTD for you before I go.
For those of you who have been JuneyB readers for a while you probably know about my music "phases". My INTENSE music "phases"... haha. (is that a sign of a severe personality disorder?) Anyway. I'm in a Paul Simon phase right now, and I don't see myself coming out of it anytime soon.

American Tune by Paul Simon

Click the freaking link because the video is live and I listen to it on repeat while I get ready in the morning. You should too. Just do it please. It was my birthday last week. Please. Thanks. Love you.

March Favorites

Heeeeeeeeey.

I realize March isn't over, but I'm really feelin a March favorites post right now. JUST GO WITH IT.

1. OH MY HE11 I have loved the tv show Parks and Recreation so much this month I can't even express it in words. Just ask my roommates. I am constantly LOLing at my computer.

For whatever reason when this show first aired I told myself I wouldn't watch it. My logic was "it won't be as funny as the office so therefore it is stupid". It seemed like a smart decision at the time. But throughout the years sooo many people (who turns out were trying to help instead of hurt) said "Jane you will love it" "Jane Amy Pohler is in it" "Jane you are being stupid" "Jane just watch the dang show" It wasn't until my dear sweet brother Paul looked me in the eye a couple weeks ago and said "Dear, dear Jane, do yourself a favor and watch the show". Let me also include that my brother Paul is a gem. I mean look at this photo of him if you don't believe me.

He is a gem and has done so many great things for me, but making me watch this show might just make the tippy top of the list.

Now, if you are reading this and thinking "Jane, it's a tv show calm down"... then frankly, I don't know why you are reading my blog because we obvs don't know each other that well. (Jk I take that back because I'm ALWAYS open to new readers.)

(This isn't a March Favorite, but I would like to get something else off my chest. You know when you ask people what tv shows/movies they like and they return with "I don't watch tv". OH GET OFF YOUR HIGH HORSE, EVERYONE WATCHES TV. I don't care if you watch Sports Center, Sister Wives, or Disney channel original movies...YOU WATCH TV. It's not like a 20 minute episode here are there is gonna kill you)

But seriously  Parks and Rec is SO FUNNY. I love the political jokes and April is my homegirl. So, this is me channeling my inner Paul Busk. I am looking you in the eye (through a computer screen) and telling you to do yourself a favor and WATCH IT.

2. EDAMAME

This is a miracle food that I'm quite positive is the only reason I don't have scurvy. Well, I can't give edamame all the credit... V8 fusion also helps out with that. Mad props to V8 fusion guys...But this is quite possibly one of my favorite foods. It is cheap, filling, and easy. And I go through a whole heck of a lot of them... especially in March. The only downside is that they DO require salt. Otherwise they are not as good. Just keep that in mind next time you are makin' yourself some. Oooook moving on.

3. My girl Sister Busk is doing so well. Her e-mails are for sure a march favorite. Here is a winner of an excerpt that will give you a good idea of what I'm talking about:

"PICTURE THIS
Im sitting at a mexican memebers house (not being racist.. just describing)...with a ... wait for it... chiwawa (sp fix that) on my lap. disgusting i know...i was grossed out. and listening to him tell me this way random story that i didnt understand... and like quoting some scripture in the bible.. for like literally 5 minutes. im looking at these pictures of his daugher models on the wall... and just thinking  "how did i get here?" (i lead you here) That doesnt happen. sometimes i just think what is this? who are these people? and why is this dog sitting on my lap. im just sayin. nice guy.... but it was a weiiiiiiird night."

Did you guys catch that "I lead you here" quote from That Thing You Do? My girl is still at the top of her movie quoting game.

Also, look at her stylish outfit. She is living the dream.

4. My roommates!!! (special shout out to Brooke for being on top of her game on twitter lately...) I can't help but include this tweet as one of my favorites of all time.

And if you are into twitter you will see that this is literally a "favorite" because I favorited it. (Pun intended)

But really these girls are the best...

And now that you all are under the impression that all I do is watch TV and go on twitter (don't deny that you weren't thinking it).... I will go.

But not without a song!!!!!

SOTD (or should I say SOTMonth HAHA):

I'm reallllllllllllly into these girls right now.

Smell and Memory

I have always been fascinated by smell memories, and since we all know that the internet gives the best information I took the liberty of finding a HowStuffWorks article on smell memories if you are interested.

ANYWAY. Here is a list of some specific smells that remind me of certain times in my life.

GAP Grass reminds me so much of my sweet sister Sarah. SO MUCH.

I have distinct memories of being afraid of staying home alone in like 5th grade smelling GAP om on my mom while she was leaving. (apparently my family is really into perfume from Gap..? ALSO fun fact this perfume is being sold on ebay for $150 plus right now because it is discontinued.)

haha ok Beyonce Heat is the perfume that my roommate Berkeley wears and it will forever and ever and ever remind me of her and my first semester of college.

This is the lotion that I use daily and it too will forever remind me of my first semester of college.

The other day I was in Sephora smelling perfumes (HAHA I say that like I do it often) and I smelled Juicy and instantly thought of my friend Ali Cottle. Major flashbacks to my Junior and Senior year of high school!

And this. I saved the best for last. I absolutely LOVE this lotion. This might sound stupid but I'm pretty sure that if those of you who are with me on a regular basis smelled this lotion you would think of me. I don't care if that sounds dumb, because it is probably true. HOWEVER. Every time I use this lotion I think of the A.C.T. because I used it the morning I took the test.... BOTH TIMES I TOOK IT. Major smell memories going on right there. I am on my 3rd bottle of this lotion right now, and if they discontinue this lotion I might die.

SONG OF THE DAY:
Have you seen this? You might already know but this song. Oh, this song. This song is one of my all time favorites. My dad was so excited to show me this video, rightly so, because he know I would love it. If you watch till the end you might even see Beatle Paul!!

I hope your Christmas and New Years was wonderful!
xoxo
