Peter Cottontail

Kindergarten plays are so much fun. -L's- class performed Peter Cottontail. She was Mopsy in the play. She did a great job of memorizing her lines and said them perfectly. She wore her bunny ears to school the next day and was hopping all over the place. Sorry the picts are not as clear as I would have liked. Mopsy

Watch for flying potatoes!

A few years ago, -N's- class was studying the Renaissance period. As an end to this section, they were each to do a project. We went to the library and checked out a book with instructions on how to build a mini catapult. That catapult resurfaced a few weeks ago and the kids have been playing with it. -N- recalled all the other fun things in the book and asked to go to the library to check it out. This is the book: -N- went right to work. His new project: a potato cannon. Perfect for Idaho, don't you think? -N- made a list of parts and he and Spalding went to Home Depot and bought everything. Spalding cut the pipes, but -N- used all the other tools to put it together himself. Spalding was so proud of -N- for using tools and figuring out the building instructions without any help.

The kids have been having a great time shooting potatoes. -N- seems to have started a trend, now all the 12-13 yr old boys in the neighborhood want one.

Concert in the Park

-N- plays the trumpet in the 7th grade band. His band teacher thought it would be a good idea to have a concert in the park instead of the multipurpose room. Usually parents of 5th, 6th, and 7th graders are all crowded into the multipurpose room. It was wonderful. The sun was shining, there was plenty of space to sit and we had a picnic at the same time. My sister Megan came and watched with us. She thought it was funny that the song they played as a warm up was an LDS Hymn. Well, that is what you get when you live in an area that has so many LDS people. It does take a little getting used to.

Volleyball

-E- just finished her first season of volleyball. She had a fun time. They really learned alot. She learned to serve overhand, get three hits, and they were even changing positions to get a setter in the middle. Great Job this season -E-!

Serving the ball. POINT!

"Finally!" she says.

-L- is so excited! She lost her first tooth! She has been waiting for a long time as all of her friends are toothless. She had a loose tooth, and has been wiggling it for a while. She went to school and showed it to her teacher. Her teacher asked "do you want me to pull it out?" -L- said yes! I went to go help in the Kindergarten class and -L- was so excited to show me the new space in her mouth.

The "Down" Lakes

We were recently having our dinner and discussing our summer plans. I told -N- that we may not make it to the High Lakes in Oregon, where we normally go backpacking. -K- said "We should go to the "Down" lakes. I can reach those.

6 weeks worth of catching up

I can hardly believe that it has been 6 weeks since my last post. Life has been busy here. So I guess I will play a little catch up to let you know what we have been doing.

Looking at my last post, I laughed at the weather. Mother Nature can’t decide if it is spring, summer, or winter. It has snowed three times, rained, and we had weather in the mid 60’s. Those warm days were my favorite. I look forward to summer.

I guess the first thing is I signed up on Facebook. Many people warned me that I would have a hard time keeping up with both. I guess they were right. It has been fun to connect with old friends that I haven’t heard from in years.

The week of Easter, a roommate from my first year of college came for a visit. She came to visit her hometown Junior Miss pageant. She is Mrs. Idaho. We had a blast together. Our kids got along great. She has 5, so we had 9 kids running around the house for 5 days. We got together with another one of our roomies at the Junior Miss pageant. It was fun to be together and laugh about our memories.

Let’s see. -N- started baseball and soccer. –E-is playing volleyball and softball. I am coaching her softball team. –L- is preparing for the kindergarten play. She is playing Mopsy in Peter Cottontail. –K- finished preschool and loved it.

My mom came for a quick visit and dropped my sister Megan off for her next college semester. Megan is helping with –E’s- softball team.

We got our garden all ready to go. I spent lots of hours weeding out the strawberries. –K- asked if we were growing lettuce. I wished those weeds were lettuce. It looked really bad. Now, we will wait until the end of the month and hopefully plant our veggie garden.

Spalding had surgery to help with his sleep apnea. He had his tonsils taken out, he deviated septum strainghtened, and something done to his tongue and top of his palette. It was two weeks ago tomorrow. He spent 3 nights in the hospital. He couldn’t go home until he could swallow. The first week was really rough. It was painful for him and I was running back and forth between kids activities, the hospital, and trying to keep up the laundry and normal home stuff. I am so grateful for my friends and neighbors who helped me out. Spalding is doing much better now, but still only eating soft foods like mashed potatoes and cream of wheat.

Our lawn looks great. After all our hard work last summer; putting in sprinklers and grass, the rain makes it look wonderful. I mowed it last week. It takes a while, but it is good exercise with our push mower.

Oh, one more thing. My sister is engaged. She is getting married July 3 in the Portland temple. It has thrown our summer plans a little out of whack, but we are excited for her.

So I will try to be better at posting again. Now that I am “caught up” it won’t be such a daunting task.
