A New Week: Week Two

So far, so good with the writing of my new contemporary cowboy series.

I am 3/4 of the way through the first book.  I'm in the process of searching for betas that actually read contemporary cowboy romance.  I've found that some reader who claim to be betas have no idea how to give feedback for the cowboy romance. I would rather not waste time in having someone read the book then give feedback that doesn't help me.

I haven't decided if I want to have just betas or find an editor to work through the books.  I'm looking but haven't found any that appear like they will fit.

Okay, just a little update for now. If anyone has any recommendations for betas and/or editors, please comment.  Thanks!

Journey

Wow, it's been a while since I've last posted here.

Not on purpose though.  My life has taken so many turns since 2017.

First, I have two grandsons now. My oldest son and youngest son each has a son.  They are a joy to me.

I now have officially gotten a cat.  Yes, me, with a cat.  I never thought I would ever let a cat own me but hey, how can I fight the mind control of such a beast.

Yes, my cat and Sophie are best friends (when the cat allows it).  LOL!  His name is Mojo, but we call him Momo. He's constantly wanting to go outside.  When he does manage to escape, he is out there about 30 seconds to a minute then it's, "Nope, not happening" and he insists on going back inside.

The next news is that I lost my husband of 46 years in 2022. My heart is still broken, and it's taken me a while to a just, but I'm beginning to feel better. We married in 1979. We raised three sons. I truly miss him.  Here he is in the fall of 2021.  He'd caught a 6 lbs Bass.  He was so excited about it.

So, onward, I re-released Dragon Wish through The Wild Rose Press.  Love the new cover!  For those of you who haven't picked up a copy, you can do so now from TWRP or any of the other site they use.

As of February 1, 2025, I started work on three (yes, that is correct) new contemporary cowboy romances.  These are the men I've chosen as the characters in these books.

First book is about Jesse Hardin.  He is hard as nails type man that will stand up for what is right.  He comes into conflict with Chelsea Coleman concerning some work she was scheduled for.  Needless to say, the sparks fly between them.

This is Jesse Hardin:

The second book is about his twin brother, Jamie Hardin.  He is a professional bull rider. He has only one regret and that is the one woman he fell in love with was in love with his brother.  His story is intense.

This is Jamie:

The third and last book is about the Hardin twins' newly widowed father, Thomas Hardin.  His book is about finding love again in a place he never expected.  It's a May / Dec romance. I have two images of Tom. I'm trying to decide which one to use on the cover of the book.

Full body?  Love this one!

Or portrait?  Wow, what a man! :D

Let me know in the comments on which one of Tom you like the best.

I should finish Jesse's book by the end of February this year.  I will start working on Jamie's book after with a completion by May 2025.

Tom's story will be last in the series, and I hope to have his out by July or August 2025.

Please keep in mind that I still have to edit, possibly find some betas to help with the flow and any edits I might need.  This might put the books out later this year than the dates I've list.

I originally started writing these books about 20 years ago.  I suppose I got distracted by life and my paranormal and fantasy romances.

It's now time to finish these.

I hope this update on me and my writing gets the word out that the woman is back and working hard.

Love everyone! Take care and remember to cherish the ones you love!

Day 1 - Other SP writers haven't noticed my arrival

Okay, so this the first real day of being a full-time self-published author. I have slipped into the room and no one has seemed to notice.

Thank God.

That means, they are busy, busy working on their own journey.

Goals for today:

1) Write, at least, 500 words.  This has been the hardest part. I have been so down about the publishing world and my writing that I have not been working on anything. That changes today!!

2) Found cover for this book.  Start saving to buy.

3) Check out blogs and promo spots to get the word out when it's time to release.  Start list.

I LOVE lists.  They help so much when I need to keep things straight.

This feels so much better than worried about who should I send the book to, or how long it should be to fit, or OH, GOD, I can't put that in the book type deal.

Runs off, cackling madly...

Rough Decision

Some things you automatically know is the right option to choose.

Some are more difficult.

Some seem impossible while others are super easy.

I have been struggling for the last few years with my writing.

Truly struggling to the point of asking why I even try.

So, two days ago, I received a rejection from a major romance publisher.  On a submission I'd been waiting to hear about for the last nine months.

Was it a shock?

No, not really.  I had assumed, whether subconsciously or not, that the publisher would not want the book.  Still, there was a message of hope there that for once, I'd written something that 'fit'.

It didn't.

Was I upset?

No.

Was I angry?

Not really, except for the fact I had to wait 9 months to hear from them and that was only because I contacted them on the status of the submission.

If they didn't want the book, why not let me know sooner?  Why tie me and the story up for almost a year?

So, as with all things, there are new beginnings when old things end.

My new beginning is a very conscious decision to go strictly self published.

I am going to start putting out stuff I have held on to for a while in hopes of finding a publisher where the work would 'fit'.

It was a hard decision.  A scary decision but one I am really excited about.

My life, my writing, my effort and my timeline.

No more waiting.

Wondering.

Depression.

Doubt.

I will do the best I can with the talents I am blessed with and move forward.
