Fly Fishing

Josh loves sports: baseball, football, Australian football, golf, diving, spearfishing, surfing, snowboarding, hunting, etc. However, right now he has been focusing on how to Fly Fish on Maui. It is very hard and he hasn’t caught anything yet, but he started a blog about his adventure. Check it out! http://flyfishingmaui.blogspot.com

Knitting Itch

I'm hooked! My mom bought me a kit. I’ve put down my Elementary books (because I graduated!!) and picked up some knitting books.
I've learned how to cast on (start), knit stitch, purl stitch, bind off (end), and fix mistakes. Here is a picture of my learning!
This website has amazing projects, patterns, etc. I just need a little more practice and learn more techniques and soon I would be able to start on some projects. If you know of any great books, stores, hints, yarn, whatever! I want to know all! Mahalo.

Beach

We made it to the beach. It was Derek's first time. We had a lot of fun: a little tan, a little burned, sand in our face, but Derek never stopped smiling.

Goodbye Utah, Aloha Maui

Josh got a new job. He is the Assistant General Manager for an independent baseball team in Maui: Na Koa Ikaika Maui. Have fun pronouncing that. It is an amazing opportunity and we are excited to be around family and for a new adventure. It has been an adventure already, packing our house, selling almost everything, making arrangements for our dogs (yes, they are coming, but they have to stay here for awhile) and saying goodbye to the people we love. We leave Saturday, June 19. We love you Utah and we will miss you very much. We hope you can visit us some day!

Derek's Baby Blessing

On April 11, we celebrated Derek's blessing with family, friends, a birthday celebration and of course food. Josh and I made a sweet pork salad, like the ones that you order from Cafe Rio. It was delicious! Here are some pictures of that special day.

Knitting

I’m hooked and love it! My mom is an amazing knitter and crochet. She inspired me to learn and it’s been a lot of fun. My first project was a baby sack to take newborn pictures. Here it is. My mom made the hat and of course helped me with the sack. My ultimate goal is a puppet theatre that I saw in a book.

Hospital Pictures

Tuesday, March 23, 2010

Derek Antonio James

Born Monday March 15, 2010 @ 8:30pm, Salt Lake Regional Hospital, 8lbs 19in. Sunday night I rolled over to Josh and asked him if he would take Monday off to help me finish clean the house and pack my hospital bag. We laugh at the fact that we packed our dogs’ bag months before, but we never got around to ours. At 3:25am my water broke, but it wasn’t a waterfall of water. Josh got on the internet and I was reading from What to Expect When You’re Expecting and around 6am we called Dr. Robinson. She told us that it was time and that she would meet us at the hospital, but I didn’t feel ready. I wanted to take a shower. As we were leaving, I grabbed my pencil case and Josh said, “why do you need your pencil case?” and I said “just incase I want to write things down” and we both burst into laughter. When we arrived I was dilated at 3cm. I wasn’t sure if I wanted an Epidural and was keeping an open mind, but at 4cm the pain was too much for me. At 6:45pm I was at 10cm and it was time to push. I pushed for 1hr45min, equaling out to 180 times. Derek was nose up and was coming out sideways and the Epidural was wearing off. I didn’t imagine how much physical work it would be and no wonder they call it labor, but I couldn’t have done it without my coach, Josh. He was amazing and the Doctors and Nurses also agreed. We love our son so much, it brings us to tears and smiles when we think and look at him. We want to thank our family and friends for their support and sweet thoughts.

2009 Updates

We have been a little behind in our blogging, so here are some 2009 events.

Thanksgiving: Josh, Me and our dogs. Yup, we have more than one dog now. We got another Jack Russell and named her Sophie. We slept over Chris and Jessica’s house, Josh played some football and I made artichoke dip and attempted at homemade bread rolls. I killed the yeast and the dough did not rise. Making bread is hard. Also, my Mom and Step-Dad flew in that night and Josh and I made a little dinner. I made my first homemade apple pie and it turned out delicious!
Jazz Game: Josh got some suite tickets to a Jazz game and our friends Adam, Emily and Ben came with us. It was a neat experience.
Proposal Anniversary: On December 15 it was 4 years since Josh proposed to me at Thanksgiving Point and this year we celebrated by going out to the Melting Pot. Let us tell you that it was an adventure, and WOW it’s expensive. We had dinner and dessert. We would not recommend going there for dinner, but yes for dessert. Also, the stove was on too hot, our dinner got burned and so did we. We got lucky because our waiter was a past co-worker of Josh's and he gave us a HUGE discount.
Josh’s Birthday: On December 19 Josh turned 27. We were in CT and celebrated by going out to eat and went to the city the next day. My cousin Olenka and Tio Roman were in town from Peru. I was glad that Josh got to meet some of my family from Peru. One day we will go there.
Christmas and Baby Shower: We spent Christmas this year with my family and it was beautiful. We had a white Christmas, delicious food and good company. My mom hosted a baby shower for me. Josh and I were both overwhelmed by the love and support from our family and friends in CT. My cousin Giovanna, Luis and Abby were not able to make it to the baby shower, so that night we drove to Atlantic City to pay them a visit.
Baby Update: Here is a picture of our baby boy. He is growing so fast, kicking and moving constantly. We can’t wait to meet him.
