Lately I came across a short video clip and is absolutely excited about it. I think everyone, especially young girls and women, should watch it. Here it is!
5 Minutes Of What The Media Actually Does To Women
Media portrays the PERFECT woman to mankind. The society creates an unrealistic image of what beauty looks like, and it is an impossible image, reflected by none other than touched up and photoshopped into perfection. The media's beauty definition is devastating for women, and has in fact, crushed many lives. It is said that only 2% of women in the world believe that they are beautiful and actually feel good under their skin.
I appreciate the fact that I do not have flawless skin, or a perfectly balanced figure. I have freckles and cellulite. I have extra fat on my waist and thigh. My skin tone is not balanced. My grey hair has been after me often lately. The fact - I am
not perfect.
Do that make me less valuable in God's eyes? Certainly not.
My skin will wrinkle over time, my youth and beauty will fade, but one thing for sure - I do not have to to look a certain way to have any worth. However I have not been like this all these while. I have certainly come a long way. Like many young girls, I was brain-washed in many ways to target for certain standard of beauty in order for people to like and accept me. I fell for the beauty myth. And of course, no matter how much I tried, I was nowhere near the perfect girl.
It wasn't until I learned to recognize the image of God within myself, that I started to see beyond physical looks. I understand more and more that it is vital to accept myself as how God created me, not as how the media defines beauty.
I realize this shall be a life-long struggle and learning. God help me. ^^v
