I'm Revamping Our Bedroom!

So! I've been so excited because I have found some great deals lately!
One of my biggest goals this year is to make our room a "sanctuary!"
I want it to be a peaceful, spiritual, yet sensual place for us to escape to.
Due to the lack of funds...
and having student loans come in...
it has been difficult.
BUT!
I've been searching diligently,
and the thrifty in me has paid off!
Here are my projects for the summer:

Meet my new-to-me writing desk.
Isn't she a beauty?
My mom actually found her near our dumpster.
We worked hard to rescue her to my apartment,
my dad just rolled his eyes!
She has some work that needs to be done,
but I thought she'd look AWESOME next to our bed.
My side of the bed has a book shelf-
this will "even" the room out.

I need to replace the handles,

the locking hinge on the inside,

and several runners.

I'm thinking of turning her white,

distressing the edges w/ a cienna brown?

And then topping her off with a vintage lamp.

These babies were found at Goodwill.

Yah they're a little creepy,

but with a little TLC I think they're awesome!

I'm thinking cream/ ivory?

They'll be put up above our bed on the wall,

on the outside edges of our heads.

The curtains are sheer and very sleek.

I found them at D.I.!

The curtains and candles here are a vivid,

yet modern shade of green.

Looks like our room will be green/ cream!

The Wal-Mart "scentsy" lamp was a chance win!

Due to employee error and a 1/2 hour with an asst. mgr,

I got it for $5.00!! Now that's a steal ... :)

Here is my upholstery sample-

can't you just picture my "home-made" headboard?

I'm so excited!

The headboard of course is going to be the spendiest project,

but it will also give our room what it's lacking,

Personality!

And of course- I'll post pictures either along the way,

Or the final at the end of the my bedroom project!

Wish me luck!

My 12 Hour Craft Project!

For most of you whipping together a project may take just a couple of hours. For me it's an all day ordeal. I saw this great idea at "No Apologies Crafts" blog and thought- what a GREAT idea! :)
Now I do enjoy crafting but don't do it enough to warrant a blog all on it's own so I thought I'd just post the stuff I do on here since I'm not diligent with this blog anyway. :)
So here it is:
Here are a few close up shots of pictures I incorporated!
For the single shots of my son and daughter I had black and white photo's. I wasn't quite sure I felt about that since the entire poster is vivid focusing on green and orange. So I used photo pens and highlighted their cheeks and clothing. I think it turned out darling!

I was impressed with by how much they loved it! My biggest regret? Doing it on Foam board. It would last longer (and wouldn't curve up a little) if I had done it on canvas.
BEFORE:

AFTER:
It was a lot of fun... but like I said earlier I wish I would have done it on canvas. I also need to learn how to make mod-podge not bubble the finished product. Any idea's?
Also- I know I won't be making this again! So I used things that incorporated my son & daughter!
Hope you like it!
