No Children Were Harmed During The Making of This Blog Post

Jonathan was sitting at the computer in the living room yesterday when he heard the following come from Daniel's bedroom:

Me: "Benjamin, don't do that...... No, Benjamin don't touch that."

Benjamin: "uh oh."

Me: "Oh man, I'm going to beat your butt."

I really need a recommendation for a good book on toddler discipline.... please!

For Nana

Nana was so kind to send us some great presents for Christmas. She sent us a DVD that comes with a CD. It's a movie that we haven't seen before, which is great because we get tired of the Disney movies we watch with Benjamin all the time. Daniel got a cute little stuffed fish that is just the right softness for him to grab and hug. And of course Jonathan was glad that it was a fish :)
Benjamin got a set of nesting/stacking boxes that he just LOVES. Seriously, they are the first toy he pulls out in the morning and after naps and the last toy that he lets me put away at night. He loves to stack them and knock them over, line them up according to size, and talk about all the pictures and letters and numbers on the blocks. Thank you Nana for the gifts!

Christmas Day

We didn't get a whole lot of pictures from Christmas Day. We spent the night at Jonathan's parents house and then had our own little Christmas together in the morning before Jonathan's parents got up and everyone else came over.

Benjamin got a basketball hoop from Santa. Daniel got a teddy bear (this is a tradition that started a couple generations ago with my mom's family and we've kept it going).

Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve is when Jonathan's family gets together to celebrate Christmas and exchange gifts. We have so many pictures it would take me forever to go through them and write about everything going on- so here a just a couple and you can make up the rest with your own imagination. I also didn't take the time to fix the red eye. :)

First we all sing Christmas carols and read the Christmas story from Luke 2 and then another Christmas story that Jonathan's mom picks out. Then it's time for presents.

Jonathan and I got Benjamin and Daniel matching pj's this year- how cute are they?!

Christmas Before Christmas

Before we left for Jonathan's parents house on Christmas Eve we opened a few presents at home. Benjamin and Daniel were able to open their presents from Grammy and Pepere while we talked with them through our web cam. Benjamin and Daniel both got some fun things, but Benjamin's favorite was this cute backpack with a monkey.
Uncle Tyler and Aunt Cassidee were visiting while we opened presents and I think Uncle Tyler enjoyed Benjamin's train set more than Benjamin did! The train set is another hit for 2 year olds, in case anyone needs a gift idea :)

I also got to open my present from Jonathan before Christmas because it was too big and we wouldn't be able to fit it in the car along with everything else that needed to go up to Jonathan's parents' house.

Jonathan got me a new keyboard! Now, don't start to think that I can play the piano. I'm awfully self taught. But I wanted to get one so that I could practice practice practice and get better. Also, we plan to put Benjamin in piano lessons in a couple years anyway, and Costco had a good Casio for a good price. I love my keyboard! Thank you Jonathan!
Benjamin loves my keyboard too. When he saw what it was as he was helping me open it he got so excited he started climbing on top of the box. It was so funny.

Daniel- 4 months old!

Daniel is already 4 months old! We can't believe how fast time is going. At his 4 month checkup the doctor was talking to me about starting him on solids at 6 months- I'm so not ready to have my baby be eating solids! Daniel is now over 14 pounds and 25 inches tall. He loves to smile and laugh. On Christmas Day he started rolling over from his back to his stomach. And 2 days later (today) he rolled from his back to his stomach and then to his back again.

Playing Catch Up

Between the illness that plagued us and the holidays, I haven't had much time to blog lately. So here are a few pictures to update you on our happenings over that past couple weeks.
Hogle Zoo in Salt Lake City does what they call Zoo Lights during December. Basically, they put up Christmas lights all over the zoo and let you pay money to see them. We went on a Thursday night when tickets were half off and enjoyed ourselves despite the cold weather.

And Jonathan's brother Evan braved the cold with us. We had fun!

Merry Christmas from the Gibson Family

Therefore, in the beginning the Word was, for he was the Word, even the messenger of salvation— The light and the Redeemer of the world; the Spirit of truth, who came into the world, because the world was made by him, and in him was the life of men and the light of men... full of grace and truth, even the Spirit of truth, which came and dwelt in the flesh, and dwelt among us. (D&C 93:8-9, 11)

Something Akin to the Plague

We've all been sick.

It started Saturday with Benjamin developing croup.

After two nights of no sleep and lots of snotty nose wiping and coughing fits, both Jonathan and I had full blown nasty colds ourselves. Yuck.

We are sooo grateful that Daniel is just a little congested and he didn't get croup, too.

We're hoping and praying that we'll all feel better soon. It's been 6 days of sickness around here and we're all ready to feel better.

Ps- I LOVE steroid shots. Benjamin got one on Monday and he was able to breathe so much better and slept so much better. I will not wait as long to get him one next time!

Santa!

This morning was our church's Christmas breakfast. It was so fun to sit around in our pajamas eating pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, and bacon with all our church friends. We sang Christmas songs and then... Santa came!

Benjamin did a lot better than we thought he would sitting on Santa's lap. As you can see, we didn't have high expectations :)

Does This Look Familiar?

December 11, 2008- Benjamin at 22 months old.
August 2007- Benjamin at 7 months old.

The only difference is the toybox and the toys, but it's the same mess. And the same organzied chaos. What you can't tell by the pictures is that Benjamin was very specific about where each toy had to be put once he pulled it out of the toy box. I watched him carefully observe the mess and decide where each toy should go.

And this picture I'm just throwing in because I thought it was cute :) He was tired and ready for nap.

Jonathan's last fishing trip of the year turned out to be the one where he caught the biggest fish of the year. Check out the size of this honker.
Rob caught some nice fish, too.
Jonathan and Rob also saw a couple eagles (look closely, they are there on that rock). He is just telling me right now that they caught a small trout and fed it to the eagles. How cool to be so up close and personal with the wildlife.
It was really cold that day but check out this sunset- that would (almost) make the cold worth it.
