Holding His Little Brother

We actually got Benjamin to "hold" Daniel today so we could take a picture. It was quite a process, as you can see. At least Benjamin was willing to try for a few seconds at a time.

We actually got a decent shot. Not the best shot ever, but we'll have plenty of time to practice before we attempt our Christmas cards...

Daniel's First Real Bath

Daniel's umbilical cord fell off yesterday so he got his first real bath last night. It was rather funny because he fussed for about 3 seconds when I first put him in and then he just froze in one position and barely moved a muscle until I was done and pulled him out of the tub. He did wave his hands a little bit and opened his eyes while I washed his head, but other than that he was pretty motionless. I think he enjoyed it...? It's hard to tell with the look on his face.

Random Pictures From the Last Week

i just wanted to share a few more pictures from the past week. Benjamin is really warming up to his new brother. One of his favorite things to do is point out Daniel's nose, toes, belly, hair, etc. and then point to the corresponding parts on himself and any person within a 20 foot radius. It's rather cute.

Here I was holding Daniel and he clasped his hands together just perfectly all on his own-

And here is a cute picture of Benjamin in the bath- I promise he was smiling until the camera was brought in. I do love his serious face though.

Brothers

Benjamin is slowly warming up to Daniel. He even ventures to reach out and touch him with one finger every once in awhile. He is very fond of laying down on the floor next to him and helping me change Daniel's diapers. I'm sure I'll be guarding Daniel from many pokes and punches soon enough, so I'm enjoying this time now while I have it.
I think Benjamin is on his way to being a loving big brother. These two little boys are going to be best buddies someday soon.

And I just realized you can't see Daniel's face in any of these pictures- and that wasn't done on purpose. It's hard to get 2 kids to look at the camera at the same time :)

Thank You Uncle Evan

Jonathan's brother Evan was so nice to come stay with us for a few days while my mom was back in California. He cooked yummy food, played with Benjamin A LOT, and held Daniel to his heart's content. We hope he had as much fun staying with us as we had having him here...

Thank you so much Evan! We appreciate all your help!

Welcome Daniel!

Daniel Earl Gibson
August 12, 2008 12:31 pm
7 lbs 6 oz
19 inches
I'm trying to upload pictures from our computer but the wireless here at the hospital must be a little too slow to let me- I keep getting an error message after waiting forever to upload even 1 picture. We'll be home tomorrow so I'll get some pictures up soon.
Daniel is healthy and loves to eat and sleep. It was a long labor, but definitely worth it as you'll see in the pictures as soon as I get them up. He has more dark hair than Benjamin did, if you can believe that! We're excited that he's here and we're now an official family of four! Two little boys-- can you believe it?!
Big brother Benjamin seems to like his baby brother for the most part. He has been distracted by our wonderful family who have been taking care of him while Jonathan and I have been at the hospital- especially Aunt Dianne and Uncle Rob who came and stayed with Benjamin while I was in labor (in the middle of the night too!) and Grammy (my mom) who flew in from California Tuesday night to help us for a few days. We love you all and thanks again for all your help.
And for those who are wanting to know- Monday night at about 9:30pm the contractions that I had been having since Friday suddenly went full strength and we found ourselves at the hospital at about 3am. I was sure they were going to send me home but we found out at 4:45am that I would be staying- I was so relieved! I got my epidural about an hour and a half later, which promptly stopped my labor from progressing. After lots of boring details and pitocin and a failing epidural Daniel was born at 12:31 pm- healthy and hungry!

I'm Still Here!

Ok, It's been awhile since my last post. And I don't really have a good excuse like I've had a baby (I wish!) or I've been put on bed rest (thank goodness!). Really, I've just been lazy. Or too busy to post. You pick :)

I thought we'd have a baby on Friday (8/8/08!) and after 3 hours of contractions 3-5 minutes apart we decided to go to the hospital- just to be sent home. ARRRGGHHHH. I did get a shot of morphine though so I could sleep that night (we left the hospital about 11:30pm). Saturday and Sunday weren't much better in the pain department. I had contractions all day ranging anywhere from 3 minutes to 30 minutes apart. I'm waiting until they are consistantly 3 minutes apart again and I can't talk or walk through them. Who knows how long I'm going to be waiting.... this baby just doesn't want to come!

Meanwhile, Benjamin is having as much fun as ever. He has definitely grown about a half inch at least since his doctors appointment last month. He can now get up on the pews at church without help and managed to reach the doorknob and open the front door yesterday. He was just a tad too short to do that until then. I wouldn't have believed it if I wasn't standing there watching him. I'm so glad I was because he would have had no problem running outside alone to play.

A couple weeks ago Benjamin got his first bubble bath ever. I know, how did we let 18 months of this kid's life go by without a bubble bath? He wasn't quite sure what to make of it at first, but now he enjoys them!

He's also learning how to jump and getting very good at it-
