I meant to post this little story a few days ago, but I had to go back to work so I am just now getting around to it. This past Tuesday was my first full day off in over a week. (Working nights I am either sleeping in the morning or working that night - I have to have 2 nights off in a row to get a "full" day off). Needless to say, I had big plans to get some stuff done. Seeing as I had been working and Jon was in finals the previous week, the house was a disaster, laundry and dishes needed to be done, etc. I was ready to roll up my sleeves and dig in.
So we started the day with a little trip down to the oral surgeon to get Jon's wisdom teeth out. Thank goodness they had a special waiting room in the back for us that was small and enclosed so Brady could run around. Jon's surgery took about 45 minutes, and then they let us out to see him. Here are some highlights of the next hour. Mind you, Jon is sitting in a chair with a mouth full of gauze and drugged up with bloodshot eyes and all. He was pretty much acting like a 5 year old. It was hilarous.
Cheryl: "hey honey, how'd it go?"
Jon: "Why are you smiling at me?"
Cheryl: "Ummm, because you have a mouth full of gauze"
Nurse: "Did you want to keep your teeth?"
Jon: "yea, I'm going to sell them on Ebay"
Cheryl: "What? Why do you want to sell them?"
Jon: "You can buy a kidney on Ebay, I think I can sell my teeth on Ebay!"
I then went downstairs to bring the car around to the front. The nurse helped Jon into the car, and then Jon starts messing with the air/heater.
Cheryl: "What do you want?"
Jon: "hot hot, it's hot"
Cheryl: "Ok, let me turn on the air"
Jon: "No, hot!!"
Cheryl: "Oh, you want it hot. Ok. " (I turn the heat on low, Jon then cranks it up to full blast"
~~5 minutes later~~
Jon: "Why is it so hot in here?!?!"
Cheryl: "Because you wanted the heater on"
Jon: "I didn't turn it on, you're the one who's cold you ESKIMO!"
~~Almost home, stopped at McDonalds to get him a milkshake~~
McDonalds lady: "Can I take your order"
Jon: I want a big mac!!
Cheryl: No you can't have that. What kind of milkshake?
Jon: I want a big mac. And fries.
Cheryl: Chocolate, strawberry, vanilla. Pick a flavor"
Jon: Why can't I have a big mac? I cut it up!
Cheryl: Milkshake.
Jon: I want a carmel sundae.
Cheryl: No sundae. Milkshake!!
Against Jon's will, a strawberry milkshake was ordered and he was passed out again before we even got to the pickup window.
Other funny scenes from the ride home: Jon geting mad at me for not giving the homeless lady (who wasn't homeless, just walking) some money, Jon plastering his face up against the window yelling/slurring "I'm on drugs!!! Rock on!!! I feel happppyyyyyy!"
So we get home, I get Jon set up on the couch where he immediately falls asleep. Brady and I headed in to his room to fold up laundry. I put Brady in his crib to play for a few minutes to keep him contained while I put stuff away. He was standing up and babbling away, and a second later I look over to see him going head first over the siderail where he promptly landed on his head!!!!!!! (Mother of the year here who was .000001 seconds away from breaking his fall) So to make a long story short I called his pediatrician who was nice enough to fit us in an hour later just to make sure everything was ok. (Which it was). She said she has never had a 12 month old crawl out of their crib. He's such a little monkey!
By this time it was already after 3pm. We went home to continue the house pickup. A little later Jon started to come out of his drug induced state and he told me he wanted homemade chicken noodle soup. So we called his mom (because she had the best recipe) and by some miracle mine turned out pretty good!! We went to bed with the house looking worse that it did when we started, but that was ok. I was just happy that my baby didn't have a fractured skull and Jon wasn't experiencing too much pain from the surgery. And we all had full tummies of chicken noodle soup!!!
Good times.

Winter in San Diego
Ok so I seriously thought I was living in Siberia yesterday. Heidi called to ask me if I wanted to walk the babies to the park with her, and I had to do some deep contemplation considering the temp outside according to weather.com was a chilly 49 degrees!! But nonetheless, we bundled up the kiddos and ended up having a great time. As much as I say that I want to live in a place with 4 seasons, snow, blah blah, I don't really mean it. I just want to wear sweaters and coats more often!
Brady's 1st Birthday!!
Oh my, can anyone believe it's been a year already? Brady's birthday was interesting. Not to brag or anything (haha), but since Brady was a baby we have gotten so many compliments on what a happy baby he is, so friendly, good temperment, etc. I of course wasn't complaining, I had a pretty happy kid! Well, let me tell you, all that changed on Sunday December 9th when Brady woke up on birthday numero uno. I'm telling you, this kid just woke up a different person!! Soooooooo cranky, whining at everything, full on throwing fits for things as simple as getting dressed, diaper changes. I also found out that I do not have his cereal in front of him fast enough in the morning - he certainly let me know about that too. Terrible twos? How about the terrible ones?? Well, this only lasted for 2 days and I am happy to report as of yesterday the evil spirit possessing my child left and he is now back to his happy self. I was getting worried. As you can see from the pics below, he cheered up when people came over for his birthday dinner, thank goodness!
Brady LOVES his zylophone from Aunt Kristin. This thing is ALWAYS being played...and despite the constant ringing in my ears now (haha) it is fun to see his face light up when he realizes that he is making the music!
Ok, so we had the "brilliant" idea to just put a sheet on the floor and let Brady go at his cake that way. Well, cake was flying everywhere and at that moment I was thankful for the green carpet I complained about for so long. Nothing shows up on it!

I love sippy cups!
Yes, I (Cheryl) love sippy cups. I will admit, the Dr. Browns bottles were alright for occasional use and were great at reducing gas when he was younger, but now that he is almost a year I am making more of an effort to wean him off of me...especially because this little piranha has EIGHT teeth! Ouch. Back to why I love sippy cups. No annoying extra parts to wash. Love it! They are leak proof. Love it! I finally found one that he will actually drink out of - this is a Nuby. Today I have 1, tomorrow when Target opens I will have 100. Ok, maybe I only need a few more :)
Proof!
Ok, for all you Robbins (and former Robbins with different last names now) who didn't believe that someone would actually allow Jon to drive an ambulance, here is some proof!! Don't mind the smirk on his face, I think he was just embarassed that I was taking his picture :)

Partners in Crime
Brady and Ranger have been hilarious today. Earlier, Brady and I were going out to run a few errands. I locked Ranger in his kennel (which is in Brady's room) and left Brady in there playing with some toys while I grabbed the diaper bag. I returned less than a minute later to find this!! This kid is a smart one!
Then to continue the fun, Ranger decided to go duck hunting while Brady took a bath. Dad of course captured these "precious" moments. Why does Ranger always want to go in the bathtub right after I've cleaned it??
Brady-boo loves his bath!

Desert
Brady went on his first trip to the desert last weekend. He had lots of fun. Don't worry, he didn't go on any "real" rides. The quad he is on in the pic is moving so slow you could walk faster beside it. Fun times!

Happy Halloween!
Brady was Squirt the sea turtle from "Finding Nemo"
Squirt and Cookie Monster
All in all it was a fun night, though I think next year we will not overcommit ourselves. Five places in one night was a bit much....but Brady was in popular demand on his 1st Halloween!

A walk in the park
We took a trip to the dog park near our house one evening last week. While Jon and Ranger were in the dog area, Brady and I had fun on the swings. He loved it! He was laughing the whole time. I'm telling you, this kid melts my heart everyday. Also, Brady took 2 steps yesterday! (Sunday) While this is very exciting, I really miss the days of being able to put him on a blanket and knowing that he would just stay there!

10 months later...and a new carseat
I don't mean to sound cheezy or anything, but I just can't believe how fast Brady is growing! Lately it seems as if he has started to make the transition from baby to toddler. He has a mind of his own! We recently got him a new carseat because he grew out of his infant carrier. I'm very sad....not because he is getting bigger, but because this new carseat is such a pain! Putting him in the car, and out, and in, and out, waking him up, etc. However, it was starting to take some serious muscle to carry him in the old carseat...so here are some pics of what 10 months will do to a kid!

Mother of the Year

I would just like to say that I am so honored to be considered for the 2007 Mother of the Year award. Being a mom of less than a year, I wasn't even going to enter the competition this year, but I think that my actions last night may have put me in the running!
We live in a place that was built in the 1940's, if not earlier. I'm pretty sure the windows are original, because they are the kind that you have to crank out. Basically, these windows have seen better days and in order to lock the ones in the living room at night, one person has to stand outside and push on the window to close it all the way, while the person on the inside locks it. So last night I was the outside person and I didn't shut the screen door behind me. Along comes Mr. Brady and Ranger and they peek their head out the door. Jon quickly tells me to shut the screen door, but I ignored him because usually they just stay there. Ranger did. Brady decided to lunge out and face planted on the step. So I pick him up, he cries for about 10 seconds and then he is fine and playing toys again. A few minutes later I realize there is blood on the shoulder of my shirt. I look at Brady, and discover that he has blood on his face from his cut lip that has now turned into a fat lip as a result of his face plant! Don't worry, things look better this morning and Brady has since forgiven me :) I think I will start listening to Jon more....

Beach Camping Part 3
**Ok, so these all posted backwards. Sorry! You can scroll down and start with part 1 if the order really matters :)
In the morning we got up early and Jon cooked us bacon and french toast. Yum!!
Our happy camper on his first camping trip!
And the happy dog camper. Doesn't he look like he's smiling?
Time to go home....Jon and co-pilot Ranger at the wheel!

Beach Camping Part 2
So what would a campout be without woofums? Well, we had all the ingredients, just not the right materials. We forgot the can opener, so my resourceful husband decided to massacre the can of cherries with the hatchet.
Hey, they still turned out good!! Even though they were more woofum tostadas because we also couldn't find the cooking sticks for them.
My two favorite people in the whole world!
Here is buddy Ranger....not to happy that he couldn't run free all over camp :(

Beach Camping Part 1
Ok, I'm a little blog illiterate tonight. I tried to add pics on to the camping post, and now I am redoing the entire thing. Here we go again! But this time with more pictures of our little adventure!
Brady and Ranger playing in the sand.
Jon and Ranger playing Ranger's favorite game: throw the dummy in the water!

Toys!
Brady loves his toy buckets from Grandma. And I love it because it keeps everything organized! When Emily comes over to play, Brady will stand up and empty out the buckets, throwing the toys down to Emily. It's cute.
On a side note, to everyone that heard me complain about our green carpet, as you can see it really isn't that bad. Just painting the walls made a world of difference!
Moving days
I was busy trying to get everything packed up before we moved, and Mr. Busy here was moving all over the place. So I put him in this container with a football and he seriously sat in there for 20 minutes while I packed stuff up around him. I guess Jon knew what he was doing when he wanted to name him after football players!

Laundry

Oh what a weekend! So let me vent a bit if I may. Ok, so we are all moved in at our new place. One of the great things about this place is the washer/dryer hookups and not having to haul the laundry to a laundrymat with a 9 month old. The lady moving out of our unit offered to sell her old ones to us for super cheap, but then our landlady said she had some we could use for free from another property. Free sounds good right? Well, this weekend we come to find out that is certainly NOT the case!
So I start the first load, only to find that there is a slow leak of water coming out the bottom. Then, that thing in the middle of the washer that twists the clothes all around does not do it's job. So the clothes just sit in a big bowl of soapy water and move around a little bit. Oh wait, it gets better. During this time I am looking at the dryer, and realize it is electric.....and we have gas hookups. So this thing is no good. Still trying to stay positive, I think to myself that back in the olden days there were no dryers and people used clothes lines. Actually when I was a kid we used a clothes line, and I'm not that old! However, I have no clothes line. In fact, the only thing separating my back door from my neighbors back door is about 6 feet and a chain link fence. Umm, not hanging my underwear out there for the neighborhood to look at!
So I go to Target (I'll save my frustrations about the 2-story Target that I can't find anything in because it's bigger than a small country for a later time) where I purchase two of those drying rack things. Well, those filled up really quick and there was still another load to do (or may I say, "soak in soapy water"). So by Sunday morning I had clothes hanging from every doorway and hangable place in the house and the entire place smelled like Tide. So as I look around, I realize two things. 1) I am never going to save up 2 weeks worth of laundry again. 2) All of these clothes are wrinkled now and need to be ironed. Ok, lets get real. I have used an iron maybe one time in the past year, and it was probably to iron the one shirt of Jon's that is not wrinkle free. (I've been rolling in the Old Navy basic tees b/c they are easiest to feed the baby in). So, if you see us walking around in wrinkled clothing this week, you'll know why!
